Finally! After almost a year! I have a fully functioning track plan I'm happy with!!!! No more changing my track configuration or anything. Signed sealed and delivered.
Everything functions as it should with no derails.
COLD out today, got the house all cleaned and polished up for the peoples, the Turkey is cooking and sis is bringing a big ole ham, should have about 20 or so in here today and I still can't believe it's happening at MY house! I was the one that was never going to HAVE anything and now I have EVERYTHING! Life is so strange.
That's a crowd! I'm ok for 4 or 5. Don't know if I could handle 20. That would make me a wee uncomfortable - unless I'm getting liquefied along with everyone else.
Of course you know you'll have to do some showing off of the trains!!! You might need a helper for that.
Last time my G scale buddy did an open house show he got me to come over to run the trains while he ambled about explaining stuff. Most people left me alone since I was doing the ops and fixing a trouble spot here and there and keeping the trains on the track. A few modellers would come ask me questions - few to none of which I knew any answer to except that we were running DigiTrax DCC.
I really didn't know anything at all about his locos, cars and wiring. All I did was help lay the track, set trestle piers and install 2 bridges. I have videos I could post but I suppose I should ask permission.
Honestly, I'm surprised he's not here on the forum.
He's selling off all his G stuff and is now modelling in N while going for his AP cert from NMRA.
Contact me if anyone is interested in about 200' of stainless steel G track - with joiners.

That's great Chess!!!
I don't want to be a stick in the mud, but are you going to put roadbed under the track and/or ballast?
There is a reason I ask and I'll wait for an answer before chiming in any more.

As promised I got me another quad-copter. Been doing some in-house flights just to get myself re-cert'ed with the controls. Too many windy days to go for an outdoor flight.
Yo!, Greetings from the chilly Jersey Shore, where it's 39°. I have a headache that won't quit.
Concerning the MIL, No good deed goes unpunished. She doesn't understand her situation and is starting to screw up, which is how she got to where she is in the first place. Enough on that subject. I've learned that I just don't have time or patience to deal with the foolhardy idiot.
CS3 - I like your final layout. The pit and cab track work out well, along with the storage sidings. Now all you need is scenery. I also think it's a good idea to place the track right on to the plywood. Roadbed creates it's own problems, although I keep using it. If it goes right, it looks good, if not...well you have been there and know what I mean.
I want to go down to the train room and work on my layout, but I believe I can use a nap first, lest I screw something up.
I'm taking bets!
On Monday evening, I found some HO vehicles on sale at Model Train Stuff and placed my order. I got a confirmation email late that night.
On Friday afternoon, I got a notice of standard shipment via USPS.
Anyone think I will get the package before Christmas?

Went to the PO early today so the wait was short. I started weathering my L1. I used Floquil dirty black on the wheels and side rods, then cleaned them (edges of wheels). After that I used acrylic paint for water staining and scaling. After that I covered lights and windows then did a flat spray of everything. I know the white looks really heavy but it won't after I apply the AIM weathering powders tomorrow. More to come...
Karl- Nice looking loco. At this point my 2 biggest wants in loco's are a E6 and a genesis F7B in the 5 stripe scheme to make a ABBA consist or 2 AB sets. I can always dream.
Toot- The ride would of been really nice.
Chessie- I look forward to seeing your progress on your layout. I have always enjoyed doing scenery more than track laying, and never say never LOL, I have changed my track plan probably 3 or 4 times after finishing it the first time. In fact the only part still existing from the original is the yard...which I am thinking about changing.
I can't wait to do my scenery. The track work was killing me and I figure I will probably change my track plan. Just not right at the moment. I'm happy with my setup right now. Eventhough I can only do small shoves I'm happy.

Good Luck new guy.
Our dinner is Friday at my brother's house in Dallas. My house isn't big enough. As the patriarch of the family, I get to carve two 20+ lb turkeys. My brother gets to cut the "spiral-cut" ham. There's 50 of us! Yes 50. That only includes descendants of my mom and dad and their spouses and kids. Me, my wife, three kids and their spouses, three grandkids, five brothers and sisters, four in-laws married to them, 13 nieces & nephews, nine of their spouses and eight other third generation kids. I don't even remember all of their names! They borrow chairs and tables from their church so we can all almost sit together...one table for the first generation (11) and one for all the rest. Since we're all Irish Catholic, the spirits will be flowing freely. It is always a good time.
On the train front, I was feeling lucky following my grab-iron install earlier this week so I did two tankers this morning. Lady luck is still with me as I was able to drill 32 additional holes for 16 grabs with the same #80 drill bit without breaking it. I actually drilled 33 since one slipped and was .025" off the mark. Again, these are not quite RTR Walthers cars. At least they supply the grabs in the package with the horn-hook couplers...go figure!
CS3 - You will change something! Eric - Don't fly near trees!

Their standard shipping is USPS Priority. Advertised two to three days will probably ship Monday, arrive Thursday. - My guess based on my own experience.
I have been looking at it at my lhs. They have three foot lengths. It comes across as being thinner than foam. I hate the foam roadbed. There's a personal reason this time for no roadbed. Well not personal but more like a supply issue. I lost a lot of ballast using roadbed. I'm almost out of my C&O blend ballast that I purchased a few years back. The company has since went out of business. Closest I can find is a grey blend from woodland scenics.
