Chet, those copper wires from the poles to your TT, are the actually carrying the power to operate it?

The wires do not power the turntable. Real turntables need a way to power the motors to turn the turntable so I added this detail. I also added this detail to my other turntable. They have to get power from somewhere. This detail is often overlooked.

Yesterday I finally got my driveway reclaimed. After a couple of feet of snow, my little garden tractor didn't have enough steam to clear the driveway properly. I did have a trail wide enough to get cars in and out, but not much more. After shuffling vehicles around in the shop, I got the skid steer out and went to work. I should have moved more snow, but it was 17 degrees and I was freezing my a** off, (and other body parts) as there is no heater in the machine. It's finally clear and the dogs have a place to pee. Also got my Christmas trees decorated by mother nature.

The skid steer is now right at the door instead of being hidden behind three or four cars.

Still trying to warm up. Getting too old for this stuff.

When I was working on the farm we would put those little hand warmers in every pocket and OTHER places! NEVER been so cold as I was while driving an open cab tractor! Walking in a blizzard ain't so bad, you can MOVE and warm up! Sitting on that dang John Deer you can't hardly wiggle up NO heat!

morning guys, we have 30 and light snow. I actually shovelled twice this morning allready, trying to stay ahead of it. It looks like it is tapering off and maybe get some rain this afternoon.

New Guy, I know what you mean by sitting on the tractor. I used to plow snow with a B John Deere, I made a one way blade for the front end loader and put the tire chains on. Discomfort is the gateway to maximum efficiency. (the sooner I finished, the sooner I get warm).

Good morning. 47° and sunny this morning. Whoo hoo look at that snow. As long as it stays clear of me, I'm fine with it.

We are closer to resolving the MIL situation. We found a new facility just 5 or 6 miles from our home, and the transfer is being processed. We see an attorney next Tuesday. The firm specializes in elderly care and litigation.

That's a rough row to hoe, at least she will be close!

борис циник - Sure hope things work out for you and the MIL, but it sounds like you really did your homework.

Weather channel says only 42 here. But it also said that at 0230 when I got up to eat some more.
She doesn't feel like it though.
There isn't cloud in sight - visibility: unlimited.

They are forecasting 1.5" of rain tonight and into the morning.

Good morning .....

Curt ... I like that idea of naming part of your layout "Running Bear Pass". That is a nice tribute to Jeff.

Nate ... I hope your Grandpa's surgery goes well.

Joe ... Apparently, you are making all of the right decisions regarding your MIL. It is good to find a place so close to you.

Chet .... Nice photos of the engine terminal and the snow outside.

Ok so I brought back the switch idea I had on my previous track plan. Ran some ops on it with five hoppers lashed to my gp35. Performed excellently. So needless to say it was my really tight s curve crossover. Still have some work to do on the outer curve but I can run my trains without any headaches.

The second photo shows the work I need to do to the outer loop. It goes wide at both switches. So I need to figure that out or leave it as is because the inner loop is after all just a run around loop for the yard. But it serves two purposes as I can stop and run two trains on and off the mainline as I feel and have a siding to stop my trains on and wait for the passing train to go by.

Just a reminder Chess, remember to run trains in both directions.
I'm notorious for declaring a troubled spot fixed - only to run it the other direction and then ..... "siiighhhh".

I did a reverse shove around the layout. But perhaps I should turn it around and run it that way as well.

I have made it S.O.P. on the M.C.U. to 'run' and then 'push' a train of as many different sized cars as I can pull and or push on newly laid track in slow mode and then in 'highball' mode before declaring the track 'open'! Now I can 'let em go' as I type away and putz with wheels and suchlike and I can confidently 'ignore' them. With one ear cocked for 'problems' of course! Swapped out those 100 wheels in a very short time and went to grab more...I was out! I put all 25 on a string and they are SMOOTH now! The last car does not 'jump' all over the place now! Before, you could really see the way it was not rolling watching the couplers on the last two cars, the couplers were just slamming constantly, now they are 'still' with no slamming! Even though I only had 12 intermountain and 100 kaydee's the kaydee's seemed to roll just a fuzzle better! Just enough to notice but not really enough to keep me from getting more intermountain if they were less than a buck a piece! (I got ripped at the show, bought 12 intermountain's for 12 bucks but I REALLY wanted to try metal wheels!)

Chet, that snow sure does look pretty...............THERE!!! Temperature is around 55 now but it's supposed to drop to around 20 and barely make it to freezing for a day or two, then warm up to the 50's again. The wife and I are loving it! The coldest I've ever been working was a couple of years ago building a natural gas fired power plant.

Here's a couple of pictures from that job and one of my boy Riley and I as we prefer the weather to be. The temps on that job were the coldest in years with quite a few records being broken. The stack that we were working on was 150 feet high at the top and the wind was howling most of the time with extreme wind chills. I never want to go through anything like that again!

-31! That's not too shabby! Prolonged exposure to extreme COLD is the very worst! I've had broken bones that did not hurt as bad as my whole body has from being out 'in it'! Working on a farm in Michigan, I THOUGHT I had seen the worst, but NO! In Korea it gets ridiculously beyond silly COLD! I laughed at em in JUNE when I got there and they started telling me horror stories about the cold winters! Come about the middle of that first November, I stopped laughing. I did not warm up till about the next June even after two weeks somewhere on Okinawa training with the Marines! Tried to go visit "Sugar Loaf" and some of the other famous places but got no time off to do so. ("You ain't here to sight-see, boy!" was all I got for asking.)

Chet ..... I may have an idea why you have Doxies. .....

You live in Montana, and you heard a cowboy say : ... "Get a long little doggie." .... ;)

We just have a thing about them. We have had many other breeds over the years and there's just something special about them. They're also good at getting rid of gophers.
