Running Bear's Coffee Shop LVIII

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

We have one of them out here at out airport that is equipped with a cherry picker and used for de-icing aircraft. Like a Timex, take a lickin' and keep on tickin' .

They were rugged and reliable. The ride was a little rough, like it is with any cabover type, but they were very manueverable in tight spaces like inner cities. Back around 1975 or so, our 7-up deliver driver had one. They gave him a Louisville to use while his was being repaired, and he threatened to quit if they made him go back to the C. They finally bought a C-30 and 5th wheel trailer to use.

Nice freight scene, Chet. Love the Red Coke Box. Drank many a coke out of one of those.
Sure hope you guys settle the Ford truck issue .. I'm looking for a place to "duck and cover" (lol).

Its 41 degrees as we speak - will probably get up to about 58 or so today. Low last night was 31 they said.
I am now ready for summer again, thank you very much.

Just cannot believe all this weather you guys are having. Gruesome to say the least. Terry .. I think you have posted rain for about two weeks straight it seems. Erick, good luck on the work!

Good to hear that everyone's travels have been safe!

Chet, keep the truck and the gas pump! I think it looks great. I can remember a gas station that had one of the old pumps when I was a kid. Don't know if it worked or not because we got gas at a different station. That would probably be around 1960 or so.

Sherrel - Not really worried about the minor details that Terry brought up. That body style evolved over it's lifespan and with the way my eyes are now, I can't really make out any of the badging on the truck. Most people wouldn't even know what years these trucks were made, but Terry did make a good call. I was a bit unsure myself when I first bought them, but the basic body style does fit into 1957.

Bob - The gas pumps are staying.

I have a C truck and trailer painted for Consolidated Freight. Nobody has yet mentioned the truck, when they see photos and videos of my SD70 and ES44 models, even though Consolidated shut down about 2000.

Not many people are up to details like this, except river counters. Who really cares if it looks good i the layout. I wouldn't mind a few more CF trucks, but so far I have only could one from the right time period for me from Classic Metal World, a semi with a International pulling it. The markings in the one you mentioned is too modern for me. I was tempted, but passed. We used to see them all over the place up here.

As for rivet-counting, I've learned to selectively crop photos when I post on certain forums. The good natured ribbing we do here is nothing like in some places. I learned about that when I posted a photo of a nicely weathered and detailed boxcar with a locomotive that had been scrapped the year before the boxcar was built. Sheesh....

That's what I like about this forum. I do belong to a few others but this one is so much more fun. I think we have a really good group here.

I try to keep some semblance of vintage on my layout, albeit loose. My "woodlands scenics" half of the layout has stuff that could be very early 1900's, that is the bottom area in this photo:

And this old station and smaller dwellings. I have horse and buggies and the like here, although sometimes the later 1950's autos make an appearance:

In this part of the layout there are blacktop roads, cement parking lots, and more modern buildings. I like to keep it 50's here, but if I run my GP-38 it doesn't look too far out of place:

Woodlands scenics recently came out with the 1960 trucks and I am tempted to pick up a couple.

Sometimes the rules change around here!

Ahm screwed! The Shark does not respond to commands, no sound, no movement. That makes TOO MANY dollars worth of sweet looking paper weights I'm up to. (sigh) Does anybody know how I git the shell off this thing without REALLY breaking it?? #%&%^&!!! No more expensive Steamers OR Diesels will I buy! The BACHMANS are the ONLY ones NOT giving me fits! Their Steamers and Diesel's that I have run and pull like champs! You should not have to 'scratch build' a multiple hundred dollar loco that is SUPPOSED to be 'ready to run'! This is BULL! And to hell with sending em back, that is bogus, I should not have to send back a four hundred (or MORE!) dollar loco! PLUS! I don't have the money to be shipping JUNK all over the countryside! The damn thing better KISS me out of the box for that kinda money! WTF? The technology is not THAT new! I was rushed in my purchasing by circumstances beyond my control and I KNEW it would come back to bite me! I did not have enough time to do proper research. Grrrrrr.

I was looking for a video of how in the heck I'm going to change the wire harness on the riv and all I could find was a review of the exact same loco as mine, the "sun of a chock block" in the video just pushed the damn thing in with his THUMB and the sucker runs like sweet cream! AAAAAArrrrg! I was being as careful as a frikking brain surgeon and the damn wires exploded like a Simpsons cartoon! Hitting a wall here and not liking it. A 'body count' of 3 dead locos is not something I planned on having in the first few months. I should know better, I am not 'supposed' to have nice stuff, I always 'break' it due to my excessive ignorance.

I noticed New Guy was offline today and found this post just before the one where he is telling us he is taking a break. I miss his perspective on railroading!!!!

Other problems with DCC, not sure if it should be universally recommended.

Afternoon All,

Took down all the holiday decorations today. MOH believes that it is bad luck to have them up after the new year. Watched "Trains and Locomotives" last night on the RFD channel. It was a great history on how EMD started out cornering the diesel market after creating it.

LASM- Nice shifter and excellent looking layout.

Burlington Bob- Nice reference to the Twilight Zone. I recognized it immediately as I like to watch those type of shows.

Chessie- I like the cabin cars.

Chet- Nice scene. I have vehicles outside my modeling time frame and that's fine with me as long as they aren't too new.

WJLI26- I also enjoyed my trip to the museum in Roanoke several years ago.

I hope everyone has a good night.

lasm -

I also miss him, hope he comes back. I did notice that he did log on this morning but didn't post.

Is anyone else still using Win7 having this problem with updates? My wife is still using W7 on her computer and has been able to access the W7 updates through the start panel>All Programs>Windows Updates, which still brings up W10 as the first "choice", but has a link "Show all available updates". Clicking that brings up the available W7 ones (at the moment, 20 to choose from), tick the wanted ones (all in this case) and then the OK button. This has worked several times previously, until now, when it just returns to the W10 update. Have tried just picking one to see if that will work, but same result.
