WOO! They are! I was flipping through the tv channels and stopped on QVC when I saw train stuff, OUCH! My wife came in and loudly said "TRAIN PORN"! LOL! I've already spent more on some HO loco's than I've spent on some cars! My first automobile was 60 bucks and I don't know if you could FIND a DCC loco for 60 bucks! Can you?

Hmm... "Train Porn." Would a loco be a HO if you spent money for it to perform DC?

Sorry! I'm really sorry!

Well no, not really. ;)

Interesting to me, movie coming up soon, Ray Kroc "The Founder", seeing I built some of the kitchen equipment in NZ when they established in the early 70's there, then the company I worked for took over the Australian manufacturing as well when the Aussie one fell foul because that maker wouldn't follow the plans for the gear, modifying/simplifying, to screw the last $ and destroying the well designed cooling ventilation systems that was built in to the units.

When we first started it was a real shock, normally being used to fairly basic line drawings provided by a pretty useless drafting dept and being the ones to get that to a finished product. Here we had great books of blueprints for each piece, highly detailed, with at first confusing line images with the layers of box sections etc overlaid on each other. A bit overwhelming at first till you sort of developed a 3D view of them, which is what they were in 2D.

We had been building the Aussie "styled' ones for about 12 months before the bust up and when McD's took the contract off the AU builder, the US rep who had been overseeing the production in both countries, put a halt to any work on the ones for over here (seeing I live "here" now) and put them into mothball storage while we replaced the outstanding orders. Kept us going, NZ'ds market wasn't that big. Later the "crookies" were brought out from storage for rehabilitating if possible. One of the ones I built was the fries unit, and to upgrade it involve cutting off the side where the fryers were so that new parts that incorporated the internal ductwork was and reattaching it to the saved piece. Seeing the "bad" bit was going to scrap, I would cut through the panels so all that was holding it to the other end, was tiny bits of the metal at the top side corners of the top hood, the rest just hanging. Cut one, it would move away a tad, cut the second and that section would crash to the concrete floor with a loud bang. As it happened (twice) the rep, who was a nice guy to talk to (he reckoned there was nowhere in the US that could do what we were doing, probably not true, but it sounded good) on his bi-annual visit with the factory manager, walked into the workshop just as I cut that last bit off, poor bugger.

Well I guess so! Thanks "B"! I actually started a change jar and will "binge" when it is full! Fixed incomes are tricky when it's the only thing FIXED!

We know you are not! No need to even pretend for a second!

Fortunately for me your jokes go right on past me.

I know where you are coming from Bruce I lived for more than 10 years with no income at all. It's only in the last few months I started generating some revenue.

King Toot I will be interested to see that as well. I am a big fan of MacDonald's I think the quarter pounder is the best sandwich money can buy. I don't go there since my wife became a Store Manager for Royal Farms, they have competing menu items and more. Loyalty is important to me and you "don't bite the hand that feeds you".

Thank you for relating your experience, that was very interesting! You are right in that there are technicians here in the US that can do anything, if you have the money to motivate them. I'm sure every industrialized country has these kinds of highly skilled workers and facilities.

Good Morning All. 49° when I first got up earlier (after 8 hours), but I went back to bed and slept 2 1/2 more hours Overdid it a bit yesterday as every muscle that I have aches today. At least it's muscles and not bones as muscles curer quicker. Cut and stacked firewood, worked in the garden stooping, bending, lifting and carrying things about. Should have paced myself better!
Out in the train shed yesterday, I assembled a couple of Accurail PS1 4750 covered hoppers. These are not your usual "shake the box" kits. Lots of detail parts. For $4 extra, you can buy a decal sheet with 12 additional car numbers to expand the fleet. Has side numbers and end numbers. They were initially issued in four numbers, so the decal sheet allows up to sixteen cars, more are possible if you "cut & paste" some of the numbers. Color matches perfectly.
I'd comment on some other posts, but I am far behind in my day.
Everybody have a great day.

Morning All,

Posting early because of family plans today. This is my #1000 post! Tomorrow I will probably get back to soldering the innards of last 2 signals. I also noted Thursday that 2 of my previously installed street lights are not working so I need to look at them.

D&J- I looked at all 82 pages of your RR build yesterday. All I can say is WOW...just WOW. Beautiful job on the chains. That's something I have never been any good at.

Eric- I hope you are doing OK.

NP2626- Welcome to the Coffee Shop. I also started at the other forum but ended up here. Jeff was here until his passing and the Coffee Shop was renamed in his honor. I too felt privileged to know him and he was the one that convinced me to use a lot of acrylic paint for things instead of enamel.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Good morning. I have a lot of catching up to do in the coffee shop. Tap Talk still isn't working on my "dumb" phone.

I hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving.

Hopefully now the Black Friday ads on TV will cease. Did anyone have the guts to participate in Black Friday shopping? Not me. Nooo way for me. I would have to think twice about leaving the house even it it were on fire on Black Friday morning.

Friday wasn't a total loss. During out Friday night bowling league, I managed to roll a 300 game.

Ken - Really like the photos you posted on the crane and flat car loads. Sure will add a lot of interest.

Willie - Your model railroad rules are right on the mark. Thanks for posting.

NP2626 - Glad you joined us Mark. Don't be a stranger.

I am getting some model railroad work done for a change. I am finally lettering a couple of small switchers for my Logan Valley after having them for over a couple of years. Will post ohotos later.

More C&O! This time in layout form! Sadly this layout is no more. It's the Allegheny subdivision. Even includes Cass. Which if I'm not mistaken Cass was accessed by the Greenbrier subdivision which was abandoned and is now the Greenbrier River Trail. There are still milepost markers in place. The Greenbrier subdivision was primarily in place for timber. Now moving on.

There is a scene on this layout that really brings it home for me. Frazier is the rock quarry at Ft. Springs. The surrounding area is known as Snowflake because of all the limestone dust on the ground. Frazier later became Acme Limestone and ofcourse idled in the early 2000s. My late uncle and father worked here in the 80s-90s. My uncle stayed with them all the way up to them closing.

Willie you are supposed to be setting a good example for me. I hope you feel better soon. The doctor told me to drink a half of a small bottle of Gatorade for my muscles. It seems to help, at least I think so.

Curt I hope you have many thousands more!

Chet, a 300 game!!! That is a big damn deal!!! Congratulations!!! No black Friday for me, but I do enjoy it sometimes, but the internet allows me to be lazy. I have not been out on black Friday for a few years now.

Ken of the D&J you have so much going on just walk in the train empire and something will grab your attention. It's really good to see your post in the coffee shop!

Chessie that's a great bit of history, thank you and thank you for another interesting video as well!

I'm taking a short break from Christmas preparations. I have the house all to myself, just me and the beagles and we are loving it!

Louis - Feeling better already. Drank a lot of water and took one Advil. Went for a walk as that always seems to cure all ills.
Chet - Congratulations. I stopped both bowling and golf when I realized that if I traded the respective scores, I would do better in both!!!
Ken (D&J) - Really great job on the flatcar load. Seems like the loads that I see have a little slack in the chains like yours.
Mark - Welcome to the Coffee Shop. Visit often. Don't worry about the "shotgun blast", after all it's a Coffee Shop; anything goes except religion and politics.

Today I went to our model railroad club, and ran some trains while I cleaned the place up. Next weekend is our open house, and I didn't want the place looking like a pack of wild dogs lived there. While there, I did something that will cause the Prototype People to have a coronary:
