The Americans in our village, (we have a few) had a barbie and fireworks. We did not see much, but sure heard them.
I guess I'm glad they moved over the pond. 🤣

They are Americans.
The 4th of July fireworks gave them away. I'd say they are American.
Whether it was a BBQ or Barbie I do not know.
Australians call their cookouts/grills a Barbie "put a shrimp on the barbie Mate"

Americans usually refer to these kinds of parties as a barbeque or a cookout.

Personally, I call it a cookout and I have these kinds of parties in my backyard, not my garden.

What do the British call these kinds of parties?

I had a British girl friend from Bristol, but that question never came up. I did often think of the words "two nations divided by a common language"

I wasn't invited.
I wasn't invited either... what's up with that?!

Well, howdy there internet subjects!

It's Troy again.

Outside, it's 64 and Dark. Supposed to get to low 80s today. I might get some patio sitting in today.

this shot is from a few days ago.

Now that the weather's nicer, the cat yeowls at the patio door. We have to open the storm door and prop it open, so he can see out his little cat door. Once he spots a chipmunk or bird, he's outside in one of his spots.

I will say that he's got an eye upward, too. We get hawks over our complex due to all the squirrels and birds that hawks love to eat.

When Loco-Kitty sees a hawk circling, he moves to spot UNDER the table or a chair.

He doesn't want to be hunted, while he's hunting.

Sun will be up in about an hour. Shortly after, the pawing at the back door, and the yeowling will commence until we open the storm door. The hunter must hunt.

"put a shrimp on the barbie Mate"
Say that to a person from down-under and they will look at you like you had a snake on your head. They refer to those delicious creatures as "prawns". Shrimp on the barbie is an Outback restaurant phrase.

Across the pond, what we call a backyard, they call a garden. Kinda like the bonnet on a car!

Good day all. It is midday. A large coffee please, Flo.
Good grief! I go to bed at 1.00am. Have a lie in until 10.00am and I find the world is talking all kinds of English.

Americans telling me 'barbie' is Australian. Fair dinkum and all that, but here this part of England we call outdoor cooking 'barbies'. (I hate outdoor cooking..)

We have eight American people in our village. 4th July is a big thing for them (naturally). We heard the fireworks.

Backyards. I do not hear that word so often these days. Here in this part of England a backyard is a small space out the back door of the house. No garden; just paved if you were lucky. In days gone the outside toilet was there. Once the toilet/bathroom was installed inside the house a small shed was built in the backyard.
Your backyards are our back garden. The side garden is at the side of the house; and of course the front garden is at the front.
Do you have sideyards and frontyards?😵🤔🤣
I wish my American born mother had been able to teach me 'American English'. Instead she had to learn 'English English'. 🤣🤣🤣

A chicken to cook.

Back later
