Good Morning All. Clear with a slight haze and just 79° this morning. High yesterday was 102° like today's forecast. Looking at yesterday's readings, it was still 90° at midnight. Midday humidity is generally around 20%, so it's a "dry heat". Most days, the THI is either equal to or just 1-2 degrees higher than the actual air temperature. I know that others might disagree, but I can easily tolerate this hot weather much better than snow and below freezing temperatures 3-4 months a year. Of course living in this area for over 65 years helps to acclimate a person.
Interesting day yesterday at the spine clinic. The epidural is supposed to take full effect in 3-5 days, but I felt some immediate relief soon afterwards. Or maybe it was just my hopeful imagination. Grocery trek afterwards went well, but it was an odd feeling being there 90 minutes earlier than normal. Gas about town seems to have settled down to ~$3.54.gal everywhere including the major refiners stations. Done with my medical 2-weeks for now, only to resume on the 25th & the 31st. Today is both a catch-up day for chores including laundry and other stuff. I'll be out of pocket again tomorrow to take the Lexus to the dealer in Dallas for it's 35K maintenance, the last free one...not really free but in the purchase price. While that maintenance generally takes about 2 hours, I also have a 2 hour round trip, with tolls, to add to it. Maybe make the further trip, while I'm there, to Discount Model Trains to shop!
Out in the train shed yesterday, I skipped wiring and painted some more figures, with a number of them hitting the finished stash for dull coating when I get a sufficient number. My figure painting palette, just a piece of 9"x12" cardboard is as vacant as I have seen in years.
Just 12 left. I looked for the stash of Chinese figures, both painted and unpainted, without any luck, since I cleaned up and rearranged much of the train shed this past spring. I am hoping to clean up and make some of them into more useful background occupants. I did find this though, a Williams Bros clear plastic model from the early 90's.
It's a generic hatchback. It had two originally and I did the first one and set this one aside for later. These were considered top-line back in those days.

I have three potential locations for them, just deciding where they will fit best. I want to put them on the lower level where I don't have any, but they won't be as visible down there.
Lefties - They were not hassled by the nuns or other teachers in the Catholic grade school that I attended from grades 4-7 in Dallas. Matter of fact, there were actually 5-6 LH desks in each classroom depending on the number needed. Our 8th grade classroom was leased space in the Catholic HS that I went to, and the desks were bigger and posed no problem as far as I could tell. I just never noticed in the earliest grades in Brooklyn or New Orleans. I myself can do most things with either hand, but I definitely favor the right when doing delicate modeling work. I can easily use either hand to consume beer.

Yes, but you're surrounded by states like Minnesota, Illinois, and Michigan that allow unlimited usage if you really need some. I would have to drive 12 hours to Colorado to obtain it legally, but the black market is readily accessible in nearby Denton, although by recent state law, they had to reverse their de-criminalization policy there.
I think that the governor primary was one of the most amusing recent races in my memory. Three candidates dropping out, and one who returned and won! Reminds me of a situation during the Texas primary earlier this year. As a joke, one candidate entered the race for Texas house representative in San Antonio and thinking that he dropped out, forfeited his $750 registration fee and didn't campaign. He beat the incumbent anyway! Meanwhile he ran for mayor of Round Rock and won that primary as well. He was declared ineligible because he didn't live in Round Rock long enough to qualify but his name remains on both ballots for the general election.

Kusojiji - Regarding your video on water drainage in Tokyo. Locally in Dallas, there is an extensive system of underground storm-water drainage tunnels and underground caverns, some dating back to the late 50's. The latest one will be ready in 2029. My BIL got to tour some of them back in the 80's when he was the manager of the light rail transit system there (DART). Said it was surreal.
Terry - Back in the day, Southern Pacific diesels were never clean. That habit moved over to UP when they acquired them. They also had the most graffiti'd equipment around at the time.
