Chad Challenges in life are there for a reason. To learn from.

It is a fact that a person in a job can be offered another one easier than a person out of work. This is the time the out of work person as to draw deep into their inner strength. Doing that does not mean the job is theirs. No! Learn from that experience.

Learning from that experience leads to applying for a position of work that has your name on it. Oh the stress of wondering if you have the job is there without doubt, but fades away as the Company wants YOU. They always want you, but procedures have to be taken.

Stay strong Chad. Do not let doubts creep in.

'Tomorrow' the telephone will ring.

Chad, you have my good thoughts on landing a job. My daughter in law has been out of work for a couple of months now, the real estate company she worked for fired her after 12 years working there (without a raise or increase in benefits). The place I work has had several rounds of layoffs and firings, and those of us remaining are watching business continue to decline, and wondering when we will get the axe, or the business will shut down.
It doesn't help your checkbook, but at least you're not alone.

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those with their fingers and toes crossed for Chad's prospects...

It's Troy again.

Got most of the stair landing painted with stinky Kilz paint. The good odor stopping variety. One little patch that I need to paint this morning. That patch was left so we had a spot to step on heading up the stairs. I'll put a throw rug on the painted side to remind us to step there. for the next hour.

I'll do that, then shower. The kilz should be dry enough I can put the underlayment pad down before lunch, and maybe get a few rows of floor planks in on the landing.

I did have to pull the baseboard off, as there was some water damage along the base. Probably a roof leak, since that is a shared wall with the condo next door. They've got a different roof line than we do. Yes, the roof was replaced on this building about 10 years ago. Rubberized coating for them, new vinyl (looks like a faux Cedar Shake style) shingles for us.

So, with the water damage, there was some drywall goop that had turned sludgy, and run down onto the floor next to the tack strips for the carpet. I scraped that up, vacuumed the crack under the sheetrock, scraped and vacuumed some more. Then kilzed the sheetrock along the floor as well.

We'll leave a litter box on that landing for a week or so once the vinyle plank is in, and see how the cat does.

Good morning all!

Happy Saturday!

A cool, cloudy start to the day. Currently 60F heading up to a high of 75F.

Have the usual Saturday things to do today. Weekly grocery run, mowing, but I may wait till tomorrow for that. Other than that,
not much exciting in my world.

Hopefully train room later this afternoon. I want to get back to some scenery work, but things have been a little hectic.

Have a safe day all!

Morning all,

Waiting for the grandkids to get here to mow. I "officially" can't really push a mower for a couple of more weeks. I did get the new battery mower setup and waiting for the batteries to get charged.

Willie: Mower brand is Greenworks. Like
most things electric is made in China, although they do have a US based factory. The kids have had a base mower of that brand for a couple of years and have had good service from it thus far.

Good morning,

55 and foggy, calm, headed for 76. Lawn day.

Chad: I am thinking about all the work and hoops in applying for jobs, the stress alone can be a big challenge to deal with. Praying.

Makes me super grateful that I was able to retire when I was fired. Thank God!

Mow some lawn today, cut some wood. Will go through my scratch build supplies and see what I need for my new structure, store/rooms upstairs.

(Sorry this turned out to be long)
No need to be sorry, I'm so glad you got all that off your chest. I have been worried about you and praying for you since the end of February. I was most worried the stress was eating at you. Keep taking those walks. Keep your mind busy and be productive, but don't overwork yourself. Enjoy your free time, it won't last, I can promise you that.

We all like to think we oversee our destiny. The truth is circumstances beyond our control often dictate our fate. It's simply bad timing. You are due for a break, and it is coming.

During these interviews, speak with conviction, listen with grace, let humility be one of your many strengths. Be yourself, they will love you.

God is with you. (Isaiah 41:10) You will land on your feet and be off and running before you know it!

Good Morning All. Thunderstorm and 70°. The power went off before the thunderstorm struck here. The rain wasn't in the forecast until sometime overnight, but I will welcome it even though it will make the yard grow. It hasn't been real heavy and there's no wind associated with it. So far there's 0.5" in the rain gauge and there looks like another wave coming up in the next 30 minutes or so. We're expecting a high today near 80°; yesterday was a real unusual day for August with a high of only 75°.

Yesterday's delayed weekly grocery trek went OK, despite the store remodeling. Found everything on the list. Gasoline prices around town were the lowest that I have seen on Labor Day weekend in about 5 years, $2.54/gal at most places. Meanwhile my wife left for Dallas after we got home for a 3 day babysitting gig, so I'm home alone! That mainly means 2 things for me. I don't have to put in my hearing aids unless needed and I don't have the endless TV noise in the background for 16 hours a day. Both minor blessings.
Plan for today is fluid due to rain. I hope to sort a few thousand digital photos of mainly RR related stuff that I finally found in a folder on an external drive connected to the desktop. I somehow misplaced forgot where I stored them.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I played with trains. I unboxed, inspected and ran these two new grain hoppers that I received yesterday.

They're NIB RTR P2K covered hoppers from quite a few years ago; before the Walther's buyout. First RTR P2K freight cars that I have ever gotten. No issues through the inspection process and they run well. Only real issue is that they were originally equipped with McHenry plastic couplers, which will be changed to Kadee #148's today. Yesterday, I brought in all of my handwritten inspection results to add to my database on the computer. I didn't realize that I am 28 cars behind!

Marco - I assume that you intend to add a source to your waterfall. It looks good to me.
Mike - We've been told to keep probably 5% of our Amazon returns over the years. Usually stuff worth less than $10.
Louis - Your info about Amazon palletizing (sp) stuff and selling it, reminds me of a fellow that I knew who retired and went to a mini-warehouse auction. For $500, he ended up with a few pallets of Matchbox cars, NIB. They were blind pallets, he didn't know what was on them beforehand. He estimated that there was over 22,000 of them which he made a handsome profit on, selling on Ebay.
Chad - Good luck with future endeavors. I can't offer any advice because I was never fired or laid off in my working career.

Everyone have a good Saturday and a safe Labor Day weekend.

I was never fired or laid off in my working career.
I was laid off once. I had gotten a union job at Gamse Lithographing when my then girl "friend" was pregnant. I thought I was set for life. Until 10 days after my daughter was born and I got laid off. I had the least seniority; I was one of more than a dozen laid off.

I panicked, rather than collect unemployment I took a temporary job with Ryder Truck Rental washing trucks on third shift. I washed trucks in an open bay all night long through winter. My diligence and reliability paid off. They gave me a full-time job on the fuel island.

In less than 1 year I was promoted again to truck tire maintenance manager. After two years I left Ryder to take the Service Managers job at General Tire. From there I became a salesman and eventually went into business for myself. Washing trucks in the dead of winter made it all possible.

Things seem darkest just before dawn.
