Good advice to keep an open mind as one bad experience could keep you from going to needed PT. If PT is a booming business as it sounds like, then shopping around, word of mouth, and reputation should give you a good selection.

My PT Experience. Around 2008 or 2009 or 2010 -- I don't remember -- I was carrying an old style super heavy tall super tower computer full of old hard drives down our carpeted stairs to the basement. I got about a third of the way down when my foot slipped off the stair to the one below. I twisted my left ankle to the left about 30 degrees and broke my ankle. Both the tibia and fibula were broken right above the ankle. I also dropped the computer on my foot, which then fell down the stairs... There was no broken skin from the broken bones. The top of the foot did have broken skin where the computer fell on it but that was minor and just bandage level.

I obviously was in shock and the body had a good shock response as it didn't hurt that much. I yelled and the wife came. She went to get the neighbor to help and they got me out to the car. It was the Sunday after Thanksgiving and we had a new 12" of snow and our front door was up around 6 concrete stairs form a concrete landing that had another stir or two at a right angle to the driveway. Anyway we drove to the emergency room at a local hospital (in the same system that she works for and the largest system in the area). They brought out a wheel chair and bright me in. Sat me in a room and asked me the whole list of questions while they waited for the on duty resident to come.

They put me in a room and offered me pain killers. I said no. The resident inspected it and called for the on-call orthopedic doctor. The doctor finally came and inspected it, and got some X-Rays, and figured out what needed to be done. Several times they offered me pain killers but I said no. It didn't really hurt that much and I have a high pain tolerance.

Anyway, they did give me a short of morphine when they went to reset the bones so they were not at a 30 deg angle to the left, splinted it up, wrapped it up, nd scheduled me for surgery later that week. Gave me a boot to hold it in place (it was a temporary one -- I got the real one after surgery).

Had surgery where they put in some screws and a titanium plate to hold it all in place and sent me home to recover. The doctor was an old army green beret and didn't take no crap. But he was a nice guy and did a good job and later when my dad had an orthopedic issue he went to the same guy.

Anyway, this is about PT. I was told to start to go to PT a couple times a week and they recommended a PT place and PT doctor/therapist. It was part of a chain of PT places here in Utah and I went there. They were happy to have me but they said that they did not accept the insurance I had (which is one of the larger local insurances run by a different branch of the same medical system that runs the chain of hospitals we were at, and the largest chain in the area). They said most of their other locations did but their location didn't. I thanked them and said I would go find another one of their locations but they said for me to wait a moment. They asked me what my deductible was and I said $20 a visit. They said, how about if we just share you $20 each visit and call it good? I said sure. So that is what we did. No insurance, and just $20 a visit. I think I went once a week ir twice a week for 13 visits or something but I don't really remember.

The recommended head PT doctor/therapist looked at it and read my charts and X-rays and stuff and figured out a plan, which the various hands-on physical therapists then implemented for me each visit. I went religiously and did all the work I was supposed to while I was there. They gave me an extensive list of at home PT to do, and this is where I fell short.

I did some of the things they wanted me to do, but a lot of it I didn't. It was just laziness on my part. The one or two or three times a week I was there I did everything but at home I skipped a lot and I while I got a lot of my mobility back, it's never been the same. There is stiffness in the foot and ankle that wasn't there before, and I'm sure ut would have been better if I had religiously done the at home PT.

So do your at home PT!

PS: A few years later I had the screws and plate removed. But it still feels stiff often.

If anybody is wondering where their posts with the snide political comments went, they're in the trash can next to my desk. Y'all are old enough to know better.
Once again God has shed his Grace on me!

My T-Mobile router was giving trouble. I called for tech support. I need a new router, free of charge. Since I didn't have time to go to the T-Mobile store and get one, the nice young man tried improve my current router. My new one should arrive via UPS soon. I had an appointment so I didn't get a chance to test the improvements. I came home to find my slow internet had gone to no internet.

I was too tired to go through tech support last night. One quick call this morning and I'm back!

The Blessing was, I missed all the political trash! 😁 Thank you @bnsf971

Now I have baseball to catch up on. More on that later.

MLB.TV is too cool. With my slower than usual connection, it automatically switches from high definition to standard definition and back again, with minimal buffering.

Using the computer is slowing down my MLB.TV, guess which one is higher on my priority list?

Have an enjoyable day Everybody!

PS fair warning; I'll be back!

Have a great day! ;)

Good morning all. A bright, breezy day. A large coffee please, Flo.
A busy day at home catching up on housework. I have our granddaughter as an assistant. :)

No visit to the Children's Hospital today. The nurses etc. are preparing for our grandson to come home tomorrow.
After three major operation; two that were life-saving, happiness is the 'rule of the day'.

what up folks

a short question: does someone in this forum using SCARM Fullversion? If so, could someone if i send them my track plan (SCARM Version) do a print to pdf of the original size? so that i can afterwards print out the pdf series of papers to plaze on my layout. this would be great.

cheers
Marco

Good morning gang!

66° under sunny skies, only heading to 81° today. More of the same weather for the next 5 days! Yippee! I can get my truck washed and it will stay clean for a few days, if the birds don't get me.

And my brand new temporary filling just fell out. I live for this stuff... Heading back to the dentist at 10.
That's why it's called a temporary filling right?? 🤔

Good morning all!

The heat has returned to the area. Currently 71F heading up to a high od 90F. What will make it worse is the
humidity is above 90%. Looks like that trend will continue thru the weekend.

Tonight is the kick-off for our towns annual Sweet Corn Festival. The whole area will be a madhouse till Sunday
I will make it a point to stay away from the downtown area all weekend. The worst will be Sunday when the
Parade and free Sweet Corn happens.

Not much other than a few household items to get done today. Dog goes to the groomer at 9:30 this morning.

No train time yesterday, just didn't feel much like it. Maybe tonight.

Have a safe day everyone!

Good morning to all including me that are wondering, did one of my posts disappear? (Yep) There currently is no Air Quality alerts in So. Central Wisconsin. The AQ number right now is 70. (Yesterday was 146) The temperature is 70f degrees heading to 87

Last minute pizza decision yesterday morning. Terry wanted pizza for dinner. I said call her friend Pat in Racine. Roughly a 2 hours drive, a 1 hour visit and we headed off for pizza for lunch. It of course was great, or I would not have suggested it. Funny and this is not political but fact. The pizza place is extremely right leaning and many candidates and past Presidents have been there over the 102 years in business, a good thing! Doesn’t matter the food is unreal great. They import the Italian sausage and have a tariff note. There is a $1.00 tariff up charge on any sized pizza with Italian sausage. If you complain about the tariff up charge to the server there is $10 fine added to the bill. The whiteboard showed the last complaint as 7/30/2025. Cool, at least they let us know

The pizza was lunch and after maybe another 90 minutes of visiting we had to head home as the grandson had a hockey playoff game at 6:45. The car though wanted to visited Hiawatha Hobbies even though we were there last week. The car won and I got another diesel locomotive. No that was not planned! There is a list of need to buy, think about buying and you shouldn’t buy but I want lists on my phone. I can’t walk into a hobby shop without because I could impulse buy the place out!

The family calendar has Terry things on it and the grandson’s next hockey playoff game at 8:15 tonight. So today I’m free

Enjoy the day

Well, howdy there internet peeps, and those wondering why Murphy has it in for Terry's teeth... :(

It's Troy again...

After a night in the hospital so the Vet could pump him full of liquids, and get a good image of his bladder, the Lord of Fuzzbutts is cleared to return to his estate.

Diagnosis: No Urine Crystals, Yes, inflammation of his bladder.
Probably stress related.

We went through a litany of possible causes. From Feral Cats flipping him off while he's looking out the window, to changes in food.

What makes the most sense, and is the most difficult to diagnose is arthritis. He won't communicate at the vet, so their probing his joints didn't make him sing. He remembers, Snitches get Stitches! Do your worst, Copper! I ain't talking!
Stress cystitis, also known as feline idiopathic cystitis (FIC) in cats, is a condition where inflammation of the bladder is triggered by stress. While not caused by a bacterial infection, it presents with symptoms similar to a urinary tract infection, such as straining to urinate, pain, and urinating outside the litter box. In cats, stress can disrupt the bladder's protective lining, making it vulnerable to irritation from urine.

So, he gets a monthly shot to help with the arthritis pain, and a de-stresser pill to mellow him for a day or so. We'll monitor, and see how he adapts.

Talking with the wife, we're going to add a heating pad to his favorite laying spot. I may need to get a timer for it. And, we'll add food and drink station in the basement where he and I spend most of the time.

79°F here this morning at 0850. Dewpoint running at 71°F. I guess summer has returned for awhile. I'm going to have to close up the house by1400 and start the A/C again. It was nice while it lasted. Only another 6 weeks of summer and another two weeks after that of summer temps. Usually by the end of September the dewpoint has retreated to the lower 60°s as the Gulf moisture starts to retreat to the south.

That rain up in Iowa, and northern Mo might skirt my area today, but I'm not holding my breath for even a five minute shower. Don't need it anyway. The grass growing has finally slowed some and it doesn't need any incentives to start up again. I wouldn't care if it all turned brown and died at this point. I've cut more grass so far this year than I did all of last year.

Hopefully this is summer's last hurrah.

I found a wonderful Black Forest inn and restaurant from Faller this morning, but no one has it in stock. It's a new item that isn't released yet. Something I will have to keep watching for.

Probably be running trains later today. I still haven't started that workshop/warehouse I spoke of a couple of weeks ago. I might save it now until Autumn.
