Good morning all. Still rather breezy with the 'Storm'.
Flo. A large coffee on the go please.
Grandson's recovery 'dipped' a little, but the doctors are not worried.

Fennel in Germany is for babies. I like fennel. Does that make me a 'big baby'.
Guns. It is scary when we see our Police with guns. It was unheard of not so long ago, but now very common.

A question for you 2A and Gunsmithy type of folks.

Way back when I was active in the political spectrum, (2009-2015) we invested in a few firearms. I sold the long guns off when we moved to LA, but kept three pistols. Ruger SR9, Taurus PT24/7, and a Browning Buckmark.

All were cleaned after their last trips to the range.

But, with my wife's medical problems with her shoulder, she no longer wants to shoot even the Buckmark for fear of inflaming parts she's finally gotten to calm down.

So, we don't go to any range at all.

How often do I need to break those down, inspect, and re-lube? Any other care I should be giving them?
I would. If not for any reason other than rust never sleeps. The last thing you want is any kind of corrosion inside the mechanicals. Someday you may need it to function correctly and if it is corroded and jams, you're SOL.

Good morning. 62f degrees now 83 later. Our smoke haze has lessened and while the Air Quality alert remains till midnight the air quality is FAIR. Hey, improvement is good

Last about guns. Before 9/11 if you had said anyone in this household would own a gun I’d have laughed you right out of the house. I did always agree though for citizens to own weapons, just never thought I would own one. That day changed everything and so had our personal circumstances. Owning nice rental properties was lucrative but also we sometimes dealt with really weird people. But even so it took a good 4 years of discussions, promises of gun safes, training and continued practice to convince Terry we should have some weapons. I’m pretty positive if I’m protecting home or family I could use it

OPS session at 9 till 1

Enjoy the day

Mine is LED, it came that way and the 6 d-cell batteries make it heavy.
I bought mine in '95 in Hong Kong. LED wasn't an option back then. Even with 6 cells, the light was weak. I bought a lot of the conversion kit from adventure sport flashlights, now called lumencraft. His drop in kit wouldn't fit mine since it was too old. I had to buy the board and solder the led on. Took some work but now it is about 4000 lumens. My 4 cell from the same era is about 800 lumens with a different kit.

Good morning all,
62 with a light breeze. Another pleasant day weather wise, and a pretty easy one by my schedule.

Manning the desk at the history center till 3, then cooking supper. It will be vegetable soup, one of my specialities.

Working on some layout details as well today.

Wife turns 70 tomorrow, we are doing some shopping and dinner out.

Later, Dave LASM

Good morning all!

Should be another nice day weather wise. A little warmer than the last few days. Current temps are at 71F heading up to a
high of 85F under mostly sunny skies. No rain in the forecast.

Kind of a late check in for me. Dog had me up at 3:30 this morning. Seems the feral cats outside were causing some sort of
disturbance and starting to fight with each other. I just let her outside and several cats bolted in all different directions. It
took her a little while to finally settle down and we went back to bed.

Not much else going on. Have a few things to get done.

A nap will be in order at some point today!

Have a safe day everyone!

It depends how humid the environment they are being stored in. The exterior will be affected more than the interior. Stuff I don't shoot often gets wiped down annually. Range guns don't get cleaned until there's a malfunction. Carry pieces get cleaned after every range trip.

If you're pulled over in Oregon and have an OR CHL it shows on the computer when a LEO runs your plate. They know you're a good guy before they even approach you.

Good Morning All. Clear and 71°, back to summertime highs in the upper 90's for the next 10 days.

Still spending time with our granddaughter who is staying with us here. She likes playing chess with me, even though she loses every game. Yesterday she and Grandma went shopping for new school clothes, then we later went back to town to eat at Portillo's. She has eaten at one of their locations near her home and I have wanted to check it out after reading good reviews from Kevin here in the Coffee Shop. See my review further down. I did spend a lot of time on removing leaves from the pool that normally don't fall in. But a combination of wind velocity, wind direction and trees losing leaves due to the drought brought a windfall! It did mean that I was in the pool at 9 in the morning, which was OK.
Hoping to get back to somewhat normal today after the all day Saturday party, Sunday's midday thunderstorm and totally wet outdoors after Monday's early morning thunderstorm. Of course, the dew is going to have to dry before I can commence with mowing. I should be able to get a few days of that done before the dust returns.

I continued with the fuel distributor site prep yesterday out in the train shed. Step one was to paint the road out front and all of the internal concrete areas.

Don't mind that the distributor has temporarily relocated to the roof of the neighboring Buffalo Industries. Then touched up and completed the earth color to the south (left).

I intend to add to the backdrop in front of that window, but it has to be done from the outside and I am not opening that window until it cools off some, probably late October.
Next I started ballasting the siding. I only did the first 14" yesterday; I will continue today.
1754402396558.jpeg

The main line here is not ballasted from the switch southward yet, I won't do that until I do the unfinished area on the left.
Note that on my layout, I am following the localized Santa Fe practice of using light-colored ballast on the main, with a mixed ballast on the passing siding and the older, darker Gray on industrial tracks and spurs. I don't know if they did this system-wide or not, but a track foreman explained to me years ago, that it was done so the crew could tell which was the main in the dark.

Man! Over 100 posts in the Coffee Shop yesterday makes it hard to review this morning. Tom O's adventures yesterday proved to be mildly amusing. Sad though that those kinds of inconsiderate people are around. And the neighbors! Thankfully the one homeowner apologized for her attitude.
Mikey - It seems like a fun day, even if you didn't get to stop at the Heart of Dixie museum.
Steve - Are you sure that the cat was just loving the napkin, or was it eyeballing your dinner?
Deacon Kevin - We went to Portillo's in Denton per your recommendation last night. Our granddaughter recommended it as well, so we took her there. I looked it up on the Internet first and noted that they didn't have any prices on their online menu. I wondered why not even though ultimately it generally never matters to me. I got the Beef & Sausage w/cheese (extra $) sandwich and it was good. Wife and GD split a beef sandwich. Got the fries for free just by joining their app, but I'll probably be bombarded with future promotions. It was to me, just a glorified fast food place, good for a quick lunch type meal. It wasn't a place that I would pick for a relaxed sit-down dinner. No appetizers, no veggies except for the fries or onion rings, and no servers. Very limited menu but what they did offer was appealing. Will I go again, yes but for lunch only. Besides I still have $12 left on my Father's Day gift card!

Everyone have a terrific Tuesday.

My Conrail Caboose was sitting on my front porch all night. USPS delivered it a day early. I opened the box, and I was incredibly pleased. I bought it used on eBay, advertised as like new. Trainz is a reliable seller, it was just as advertised, and the price was less than half of the MTH list price.

I also opened the GG1 and removed it from the box, it is a beauty! It was also used but looks brand new. Lionel, Williams by Bachmann, and MTH each made a full O-Scale Conrail Bicentennial GG1. This MTH version was the only one available when I bought it. I am still upset with myself for not buying the Lionel version when it was available new. Now if I see the Lionel version on eBay, they often want $1000 over the original list price.

Next, I will work on getting an O72 track ready on the floor to test them both. Once I retrieve the MTH DCS Remote Commander from the attic I will be able to test most of the command control functions.

I don't have a full fledge MTH Digital Command System, maybe down the line after I get a layout to attach it too. I don't think it is necessary. I only have two MTH locomotives. But I never know what I'll do when I get the "wants". In the meantime, I have spent more than enough for now.

I'm counting today as a success. I checked not one, but three things off the to-do list and unboxed my new trains. The attic is getting closer to the top of the to-do list. At this rate I will beat the fall weather. That is okay, I have window AC units in the attic. If I keep moving, I shouldn't stiffen up. I'll deal with it if I do. I can't wait to play in the attic with my trains!

@Bruette

@santafewillie I do wish your visit to Portillo's would have been absolutely great, but glad you did enjoy it. If you have a monster sweet tooth try their chocolate cake.

76 here already, heading for 91. The Missus, one of our Nieces and two g'nieces going for lunch in a while. I'm staying home and plan on getting to the train room while it is still relatively cool.
Continuing prayers for newborn's, Moms, grandsons and returning friends who are recovering.

Good Morning All!
59F @ 81% raining slightly.

Med stuff went OkieDokie yesterday with the highlight being we went to Dub's vs Zip's in Sandpoint for lunch. Been quite a few years since I have been there. Anyway, when you order your burger/chicken/other meal, they ask what you want to drink. Maria said 'Chocolate Shake'. They did not add anything to the meal price and the supposed small fries/onion rings were at least a large in other places; O rings did not up the bill either. We both had Chicken and it was great. Bun was one of the bigger ones and almost too small. Took a nap in the Dr's waiting room until called.

My son just texted me that the #1 rated pinball arcade & museum is a short 20 minute drive away. 27,000 sq/ft, 650 machines, and unlimited play for the $23 admission fee. I may be reliving part of my youth soon.

I briefly went through most of the list of what they had. Looks like they have just about everything!

Be well worth the $23.00 to go kill a few hours.
