Good Morning All!
66F @ 65% and dark. To be overcast again with possible flash, boomers and rain. 83F yesterday, close to same today.

Watched 'War of the Worlds' on Prime last night; rated #2 on Prime. What a flick. 1st one ( 1953 I think ) I watched circa 59/60 scared the sh.t outa me. 2nd ( 2005 ) was ...meh... This one was well put together with good theory behind the tech. Did not have scene's that showed something, then a miracle happens and show something else. Tech was maybe out there a bit, but golly be. Maria was even glued to her seat. Might not be so good on the bigbig screen as there are too many window pop-ups that could be hard to follow, but I digress. Worth the watch for you SyFy fans.

Bruette: You are doing great managing your weight and Glucose. Keep it up. It gets better as your body gets used to it all. A lot of my umm..normal body pain went away after dropping a bunch of pounds. Ya, still have aches and pains but those can be related to activity, not just cuz of the pressure on things. You probably know that our downfall is Carbs. I cut mine in 1/2 for the first year or two of weight loss. Not every time mind you, but most. It took me 18 months to loose 85 Lbs. I now weigh the same as when I went in the USMC 1971. Ya, no muscle now like then and still have a little of that beer belly left .. working on it. Think it was Lou Ferrigno that coined 'Stay Hungry' for all of the body builders in some beach and boobs movie many moons ago; works for us too. BP also plays together with body water, get dehydrated and guess what? BP goes low, and the possibility of AFib comes into play. My A1C is still just under 7 so working on that too. I am getting more active doing stuff, but it takes time for the body to get used to that... life? Isn't it wonderful.

Terry: I think for that price, I would have put in 2 window units, but that is me. Ya, know it is an RV but as you probably know, those windows come out pretty easy and you could put something ugly in temporarily. Sure if you wanted to sell, then you would have to fix ( or drop your price ). Maria just bought a 120V 8K Btu one for $390ish.

Good morning to all those awake and don’t post right away. I was awake and out of bed at 5 and that was 2 hours ago!

Chilly in Wisconsin now at 54f degrees. The low was at 4am when it was 51. The house inside feels good without the a/c running. The smoke haze should be worst today than it has been all week. The high today will be similar to yesterday’s 79. No rain till Tuesday is expected and the air quality looks like it will be better Sunday. I changed the air filter on the AC unit yesterday as I do every 45 days. It seemed extra dirty which I guess is from the smoke from both Minnesota then Canadian fires the last couple of months. It basically was a red sunset yesterday which unfortunately we are seeing more of because of the lingering haze.

Terry and I did a road trip to Hiawatha Hobbies yesterday. I picked up another Sd70Ace that I will ship off to my painter Monday. This and the Sd40-2M already at the painter will be my last 2 motors being painted for my freelance Wisconsin Interstate this year! I’ve been asked since you weather why do you use a painter for your units? IMO painting and weathering are 2 different, similar but definitely different skill sets. I used to paint brass steam and diesels but I disliked the decal work that also is involved. The person I use it very good and reasonably priced. I know my limits and painting locomotive models is one of them

I am leaving in 30 minutes for an unusual Saturday work session. Because yesterday’s road trip set Terry’s COPD off she is going to try to stay in most of today. After Hiawatha yesterday morning we visited 2 other towns walking around. That turned out to be a bad idea. So I’m off to work a session scheduled because the owner is also a COPD sufferer who decided not to ride in the cycling event today and tomorrow he and the wife entered. Looks like our full Wednesday crew plus a couple extras will be there 9 to 2:30 is the plan with a 45 minute lunch in there somewhere

Be well

Good morning all!

Happy Saturday!

Currently 59F heading up to a high of 79F. A/C went off yesterday for a few days of open windows. The bedroom had a really
nice breeze. Great sleeping!

Heading to the Chicago Outlet Mall later this morning with the wife and daughter. Its that time of year for school clothes. Normally
I wouldn't go, but I want Texas roadhouse. I will probably just wander around while they shop.

Worked quite a while in the train room yesterday, and last night was just train running.

Have a safe day everyone!

Crazy morning. My timing is off. I’m here for another hour. Pickup is 8:45 not the 7:45 I noted above. Going to the train room to shot some photos

Oh heavens no!

If it goes to Chicago, it will get lost for several days in the famous USPS Chicago black hole the rattle around
the Suburbs for a few more days!
That's what I've been seeing for most of my stuff. Go through Chicago. Even the stuff from Hawaii. The military used to take care of that stuff going to the fleet post office, but I guess with all the cut backs...

Yeah, I remember scenes like that. Only nothing in sight.

I also remember the ship doing engineering drills as we crossed the Pacific from Hawaii to Japan in '98. The ship was leaning a lot in the turns as we did the rudder shift exercise. Suddenly, the ship did a sudden jerk while in a severe lean and stuff went flying. CAPT came on the loudspeaker and said yeah, we almost went over on that one. So, no more of that for the rest of the night. I could have been watching this view at water level...

Good Morning All. Mostly cloudy and 73°, still in our unusual cool spell with the high today maybe just at 91° like yesterday. NWS is not forecasting any rain anytime soon, but they were wrong about the nearby rain the other night. There's an air quality alert for the counties south of here clustered around Dallas/Ft Worth, but it doesn't extend to us. Interesting that it's recommended that you use a bicycle on bad air days to reduce contaminants, but then you have to breathe them instead of the filtered A/C air in the car!

Heading out this morning for daughter #1's house for a celebration of her husband's 20th year in Texas. He's originally from Pittsburgh and came to Texas to attend college in 2005. I haven't been given much information regarding it, but I suspect that it is really a pool party for a bunch of mid-40's couples and their kiddos. That's based on the time of the party from noon to 4:00 pm. We'll be taking our granddaughter back home with us for a couple of days when we leave. Looking forward to that.
Yesterday I had to assist my wife in getting the guest bedroom ready for her. It hasn't been used in 6-7 years and there has been an accumulation of "stuff" in there. Plus I disrupted some of that "stuff" when I installed the new ceiling fan Wed-Thur this week. Then I did my monthly septic maintenance routine.

Only spent a little time out in the train shed yesterday, but I did add some weathering powder to the fuel structure before running trains. This is just a light weathering job, since the structure is supposed to represent a newer one.

The last picture shows a side that won't even be seen, as it faces the backdrop on the layout. But I still weather those sides in case I ever rearrange things.
Not sure if I'll get home in time to visit today.

Tom - Welcome back. You've been without rain longer than I have been. These guys in the Upper Midwest have been hogging all of it.
David - Great news regarding your grandson. I'll keep the prayers going.
Steve - I keep a brand new in the box pool pump on standby. Algae grows easily here and I need to keep the Chlorine circulating. While I got mine over the Internet from the manufacturer, I would bet that Amazon carries them now.
One of my neighbors has a tankful of the old A/C refrigerant that he uses to service (off the record) older systems. He still keeps his Texas ACR license up to date even though he is retired. But he also knows where to source the old refrigerant.

Everyone have a great Saturday.

Good morning all,

A pleasant 50 headed for 75 I think.

The smoke does not bother me. I did wildland firefighting for 5 years, and we swam in it, with a wet bandana over our nose and mouth to keep the burning embers out. Hardened me up a bit, or maybe just good genes?

Headed to the nearby history center for my first day as greeter and money taker. My first official volunteer job as a retiree.

Yeah, I rode in the back of a Datsun pickup, down the freeway, and it was both night and winter. Actually, mom and dad's idea to get us out of the house on Boy Scouts swim night at a city school with a pool. My hair would freeze on the way home.

At least we got to stop at McDonald's on the way home.

The most dangerous fun was going down the Big Hill, at St. John's University, on a wooden toboggan with 6 people and limited steering. I was about 10.

Train shed later today

Morning all,

A bit hazy due to those Canadian wild fires, otherwise a cooler day with highs in the low 80's.

Sorry we stole your rain  Willie, but we've been too dry for years. As of July 31st, we were at 131% of normal average rainfall. Most of Kansas if finally out of the worst drought category. I will say it is nice to see our city lake full of lake again. It is running over the spillway for the first time in 13 years.

I'm back for a brief moment. Had a very busy morning. Wife came down at 7 and said she caught the cat peeing on the stair landing again....

since he wouldn't give a urine sample at the vet, the only thing we didn't rule out was urine crystals.... So, after I attacked the landing carpet with the small carpet cleaner (we don't have the big upright one), I showered, ran to the grocery to get the commercial Urinary Track Food, along with a litter scoop. It came with a small dust broom and pan!

He knew he was in trouble, so I coaxed him out from under the bed and showed him the new litter box (again!), he squirmed and dashed back to hide under the bed.

After that, I headed out to put the new burners in the gas grill. 1.45 hours of power washing, grease chiselling, and a few bits of sailor talk later, I have a functioning, and mostly clean gas grill.

Now I just have to remember to pull the drip pan, and change the foil on it every new grilling season.

Wife says I get to eat lunch at the Italian place with the good breadsticks. Yay!
