Marlin: Wingmasters also had a 24 gauge too didn't it? Have a friend looking for both the 28 and 24; has found nothing local .... yet. I don't remember him mentioning Wingmasters though...

I couldn't find anything in the reference books concerning a 24 gauge wingmaster. 24 gauge was mainly a European thing, but I guess anything was possible if it happened when Remington had their custom shop open.

Good morning all, 74 here and cloudy! It feels SO good. Only supposed to hit 84 today. Going in to work at 1-530 today and then tomorrow all day. I understand about working after retirement, I would have gone stir crazy as I have been working a tax-paying job since I was 15.
Marlin, you probably already know this but on your 1913 1911, make sure the colt is behind the slide serrations as they didn't switch to the center position until 1917. And that Triple Lock sounds sweet!

Pizza Pizza!

My grandson is driving us to pick up lots of stuff at little Ceaser's. Three pizzas, 3-orders of crazy bread, and a dozen crazy puffs. He can take home the leftovers; he won't have to cook for himself for a few days. All this and it still costs less than what I spent at Pizza Hut, but I doubt it will be as good!

I'll be back!

We picked up the first cabinet of firearms from the elder (86yo) gent yesterday morning before my eye appointment. I have to go through them this morning to see what goes on the internet, what stays in the shop, and what gets offered to the stores collector clients.

I have to really go over the Colt 1911, US marked, from 1913, in good light. It does not look to be rearsenaled or parkerized, but again I need good light. I didn't see any arsenal rebuild stamps, but I need to check the inspector marks on the barrel, frame, etc.

The 5" S&W triple lock upon closer inspection has a "*" next to the serial number. It means it went back for repair. "Repair" could mean anything from new barrel, retime, refinish, etc. It won't be in the records. It's attached to the persons name that sent it in. I'm guessing it was to retime the action since it's rock solid. The stocks look period correct, but they don't fit perfect. I'll need to take them off and see if the serial number matches the frame.

There's a half dozen 870 Wingmasters also in every gauge. 28, 410, 16, & 12. The 28's are pretty much LNIB.

A real surprise was the S&W 29-2, 8-3/8", Dirty Harry Special, in the display case. I found an extra, NEW, 3" barrel under the inner molded plastic.

Cabinet #5 has almost 2 dz 1st & 2nd generation Colt SAA and 8 antique serial number Winchester 1873's and 1892's. The owner is having some attachment issues with his collection and I completely understand. He spent a lifetime collecting these and there's a lot of memories still attached. He said he needs some time before he let's the other 4 cabinets go.

Please post if you find anything made in Germany or Austria.

Afternoon I'm back, I think. Been very busy with shorthanded at work (2 retired ) doing union negotiations and with no rain for 9 weeks I'm watering from the time I come home till dark, among other things. The only thing I haven't done was cut grass. August is supposed to be above normal temps.

Welcome back! Was wondering where you had been.

We have missed your postings! 😀

Good evening all. Thank you, gentlemen once again for the prayers and well wishes for our grandson. We do believe sincerely that they do work.

He underwent a major operation today. First to see if he had any tumours. Success as there was none. Secondly to stop the bleeding. 99.99% successful. Maybe 100% when the surgeon does a examination tomorrow.

We have been told that if all is well our grandson will be allowed home in two weeks time. The surgeon etc will be monitoring during the two weeks.

It is a happy house here tonight.

THOUGHT FOR TODAY

EACH DAY IS A GIFT TO BE OPENED WITH PRAYER

That's great news!

Thanks for the update.

*Blinks at the new thread...*

Is it that time already? Where did July go?!

It's really nice out here on the patio, at least; 98F/41%, temperature rapidly falling, with a very nice breeze blowing off and on. Some rumbles in the background from nearby thunderstorms, but nothing overhead at the moment. Certainly no rain, which would be nice.

Looking over, I notice that it's past time to top off the pool. And I really need to go buy a frigging new pump and get it installed.

Unfortunately I'm in my periodic semi-nocturnal state; I woke up at 3PM today, and will likely to go to bed some time tomorrow morning after the sun comes up. It's normal for me, but it makes things difficult because it's hard to get to the various shops during the day before they close.

At least the supermarket is open 'til ten at night. That helps.

@NorthBrit : Glad to hear that things are going well; prayers will continue for continuing improvement.

I think I had other things queued up to respond to, but if I did, then my browser lost them. So if I'm missing something I was going to respond to, I'm sorry. Yesterday was an off day, and today isn't much better. I tend to get socially flaky when these days come around, and it's more frequent than I would like.

On the train front, I have that nice little NS loco happily pulling twelve cars. Still won't go up the grade without assistance, unfortunately. I'm going to have to temporarily take the grade apart and build a completely straight one, just to see where the limit is for how steep I can make it before the train can't pull up it.

I need to get a DCC system and another loco and speed match them so I can have two pullers. That would help.

I also extended my "rail yard" a bit so I can get at the trains, instead of having 'em stuck behind the monitor. That involved designing and printing a little "bridge" that I could tie the monitor cables to, to keep them out of the way while the trains go under. It's working great:

It's in purple because that's the most useless filament I currently have, and it's probably a temporary toy, so I'm not wasting the good stuff.

Not much else going on beyond that.

I'm up against the hump of transitioning to actually designing my layout rather than just thinking about it and doing the occasional sketch. Getting started is generally the hardest part of any new project, but I'll get there. And once I get started, I probably won't be able to put it down for a week or so. For that reason, real work might end up waiting for a couple of weeks until after the next medical appointment, which will interrupt any groove I might get into.

We'll see.

And the stock market is depressing me today.

Have a good weekend, folks!

If it were a house, that would be cheap
And isn't that the understatement of the decade?

My air conditioner unexpectedly died last year due to a leak. Older system, nobody would fix it because it uses an older refrigerant formulation (such a scam!).

You don't want to know what it cost me to replace it.

Hint: I'm still paying it off a year later, and I don't generally do debt... Thankfully it's on a 0% deal, at least.

Good on you for not having to fall down that particular financial rabbit hole!

Only hit 85 here today, it was gorgeous.
@NorthBrit great news on your grandson.
Nephew's whole family heading in tonight so they can get the first load of their move done. Worked part of the day, easy afternoon, hopefully tomorrow will be as nice. Lucked into a mould for a Rolling Block in 12.7x44, so I will need to cast bullets for it.

Evening all,

Been a good day, but didn't really get much sleep. Had my eye exam this morning, starting to be monitored for glaucoma. Pressure just under the limit and I have a family history.

PT today was reduced as I may have overdone it last time.

David: Good news on the grandson. Hope the good news continues.
