This is going to be a valuable resource. I'm so glad there being preserved and available.

I'm assuming more will be added in the future.

After I posted this, I thought it should probably be posted in the regular forum somewhere so it can be available to more members. I will let someone else do that if they feel inclined. I doubt many go back and re-read these coffee shop threads after there closed at the end of the month and some don't visit this thread and may not see this resource.

Rail Model Journal....Model Railroading, and several annual magazines....Great resource. have to check it out.

And for all of you who have been discussing all the advanced electronics, this is for you:

There were a few hobby shops (Harris Hobbies, Brad's Trains, a couple of others), and those seemed to be the place to be -- well, that and two a few other guys who were selling used merchandise, one of which was an estate sale type.
All in all, it was a worthy shopping experience. I felt like the pricing on new gear was kinda... normal, where I (probably unrealistically) expected it to be at least a little discounted. Not sure what the norm is for shows like that. Used stuff was well represented though, and if you hunted, there were some really good bargains.
I have bought from both Harris and Brad's at the shows locally in Plano for over 25 years now. Both are reputable vendors.
As far as discounts, the estate type of guys will discount heavily in the last couple of hours on Sunday because they don't want to haul the stuff home. Brad doesn't discount anything

For those of us newbies in the unwashed masses seats, who is Jaz? Seems she's been gone a while.
Jaz is a female modeler from the UK somewhere. She and her hubby have an extensive model railroad in their attic. I think that he does most of the rail and electronic stuff and her specialty is scenery. She is a feisty lady and I mean that in a good way. She is well known for her heavy weathering and making scenes look like the gritty part of the UK that they model. She is also well known for not using punctuation and for using random capital letters in her posts with sentences running well over 100 words! See Chad's comment in post #1386 earlier today.

Well, the joke is on me. The vast majority of the used rolling stock I picked up has what look like Rapido couplers.

Bah.

Looks like I'll be going on an adventure and learning to convert couplers at some point in the near future...

Thankfully, the locomotive (a) works, and (b) has what look like decent couplers on it. :)

I did notice that. Do they still sell the microtrains truck set with the couplers? Those were easy to replace.

Wow, very impressive!

I think they do. Some of these cars look like that would be an easy fix since they have the trucks secured with a screw. Some of them are a lot cheaper and look like I would have to drill out a plastic pin and adapt them for the trucks.

I'm kinda hoping I can just swap the couplers, but we'll see when I get around to it. I have a bunch of learning to do to identify the correct couplers for given trucks.

If it takes too long, I'll just give up and replace the trucks. :)

I'm just salty that my $3 cars are going to be more like $13 cars. :(

I think those pins just pop off. I used to use tweezers and push it in between the truck and body until it popped off. I bought this kit a long time ago and still have a few left. They came with a pin and adapter.
