Good Evening!

I suspect some have heard about the little CN vs Dumb Trucker fire we had in our little town today. Since nobody was killed though, it might not have made the 6:00 news.
What it did do, is split our town in half. The trailer park people are on one side of the closed highway bridge, and I'm on the other, along with a few thousand others. As it turns out, we get the downtown side, with a river separating us.

Here's a FB tourist photo of the goings on:

Now the highway is closed for a few days, until they can check the bridge crossing the McLeod River, just on the other side of that inferno.

I wasn't around to record photos of that adventure. I was laying on my back in the hospital, totally unaware of what was happening outside. No one even told me about it until I arrived home later in the afternoon. - By then, it was all over.

Anyway, I did go down to the CN yard to see if there was anything to photograph. The remains of SD40-2w, CN 5325 were sitting parked down in the yard. Here's the photos I could secure before a crowd of rubber-neckers gathered and attracted the CN security people.

Here's the other SD40-2w that was involved. I believe this one made it through the inferno, and is probably repairable:

Before the crowd gathered, I asked a CN employee for permission to photograph the remains. That permission was granted, so long as I promised to not share photos that included his likeness. There are 9 more photos where he can be seen. I'll hold to my promise and file them away for history to find.

I've not been in for a few days, but, things are busy. I'll be back when I can.
Have a super evening!!

Are we talking politics or sports???
This is the story I was talking about! The ladies from Sweden are good! Japan was no sleeper either!

Sweden reaches Women's World Cup semifinals!

AUCKLAND, New Zealand (AP) — Sweden first knocked off the United States and then bounced Japan to snag a spot in the semifinals of the Women's World Cup.
The Swedes, the World Cup runners-up in 2003 and three-time third-place finishers, eliminated previously unbeaten Japan 2-1 in Friday's quarterfinal. With Japan out of the tournament, this year's World Cup will crown a first-time winner.

They did stand for the National Anthem. Most did not sing, but they all stood.
Maybe the second time 'round the block, but not the first time 'round the block.

If you are pointing out that they learned their lesson, I'll simply point out the rest of us learned a lesson too from that first time: Screw 'em.

[Note: I don't watch the NFL anymore either]

Greetings from not snowy, nor smoky Hamilton Ontario, Canada....

Heading out to the game store in about 2 hours for the day's gaming. Wife will have the car, so I'm stuck gaming all day (gaming = little toy soldiers, not gambling).

No continental breakfast at the hotel, because there is an attached Denny's. Fortunately, this being Canada, we're unlikely to see the racial shenanigans that have plagued the American ones from time to time. And, no chairs were thrown thrown while I ate breakfast. So I'm not sure how well my server was at Chair-Fu.

Nothing train-wise to report. We're near Lake Ontario, but our view is of the WalMart, not the lake where there might be rail service to the docks.

Wife is still sleeping. I woke her up coming back from breakfast. She moved enough and started talking I could warn her that Canadians must LOVE hot showers. The coolest temp I could get our shower at 5 am was as hot as I could stand it. I have a higher tolerance for hot showers than she does. She might be grumpy later.

I'll post more pics later.

Oh, and book 2 in my Canadian series just debuted today. I might sell enough this week to "break even" on the production cost. After that it's hobby money.

I really don't under stand why the concept of "no politics" seems to be so difficult to grasp.
If you are discussing politics OF ANY KIND, EVEN IF RELATED TO SPORTS AND POLITICS OF THE PLAYERS, it IS POLITICS.
I don't know why people are so surprised when, after directly criticizing an athlete's POLITICS, they get called out for it.
Posting ABOUT POLITICS IS POLITICS, NO MATTER WHO.

We are all supposed to be adults here, and the two rules Bob has mandated are no religion and no politics. We shouldn't be trying to split hairs, and arguing about what the meaning of "is", is.

With that said, just because I mention it, doesn't mean the rule has been broken--yet. It's a reminder to not continue down that road. We've all been around a long time, and I consider most of us here to be friends. That doesn't mean I won't put on the Mod Hat, and do what has to be done, it does mean I don't enjoy it.

Good Morning to All. Clear and 84°. Supposed to reach 108° today and tomorrow, yesterday was a paltry 104°. And then Monday and now Tuesday, the NWS is predicting just 96°, something that I can tolerate more. We're still under the heat advisory and red flag warning, but other than the small grass fire last week, everything around here has been OK. While most of the local farmers/ranchers are not ready to cultivate their fields yet, many have plowed a 20' wide fire-break along their fence lines, especially the ones adjacent to public roads. The same with their pastures full of cows, where the terrain allows.

Yesterday was mostly spent on indoor household tasks, but I did get out the big shop vac and vacuum one of the cars. That's a noisy monster and I have to use hearing protection when it runs. Pool is fortunately still staying at 89° in mid to late afternoon.

Out in the train shed yesterday, i sorted through more of the misplaced detail parts that I discovered Thursday. Looks like at least a dozen propane tanks, 5 piles of junk, a half dozen white metal motorcycles in various stages of assembly, and more milk cans that I have very little use for. I've used some of the milk cans as details on the porch of an antiques shop and a few as planters on front porches, but I have far more than I can currently see a use for. The same with wooden barrels.
Then I broke the drill bit that I was using for the remaining barbed-wire fencing. Turns out that it was really a .032" bit (#67) and not a .030 bit, but I had a package of replacements. I finished planting the fence.

After moving the structures back into place, MOH (on the layout) decided that the chicken house was too close to the back porch. While convenient, it smelled so it got moved a little further away.

The cows checked out their new digs and complained about no grass.
IMG_0159.JPG

That will be fixed next.

Karl -
Willie I'm gonna have to check out that barbed wire fencing, I like it.
Here's a close-up view.
IMG_0154.JPG

For years I made my own by drilling three holes in pieces of toothpicks and then stringing extremely thin silver wire through them, before drilling holes and mounting them. With paint and weathering, it made acceptable fences, but was very time-consuming. I now gladly pay their price for the pre-made stuff. At the discount LHS, I pay about 50¢/inch, and installation goes very easily.
IMG_3304.JPG

Another advantage is that I don't have to go back after planting and add as much "sag" to the wires. Still a little is needed though.
Guy - Do fire trucks and other emergency vehicles have a way to bypass that closed bridge?
Sad pictures though.

Everybody have a great Saturday.

Good morning from my little part of WIsconsin. 66 now heading to 83f degrees later. The possible rain at 9PM turned into a 100% hit. Severe at times and very noisy. Just a 1/2” in the old style glass collection beaker, .73“ on the property electronic weather stations that are operational again. Not a lot of rain but it was definitely needed. Lots of branches down as far as I can see but mainly little ones. Terry is out riding the trails and will report in if anything needs to be moved. I flew the drone already checking the fence line, all that was fine.

We had a local high school student who graduated in 2022, join the marines and with 2 others a couple weeks ago die of carbon monoxide at 19. Turns out he’s the older brother of one of the grandson’s hockey and soccer teammates. So the family minus the granddaughter are heading to the services this morning. The granddaughter and I will play in the pool.

Today is a diesel day at the bench. All sessions will be for weathering diesel locomotives. I have 1 finished, 2 about 50% and 12 more just clear coated. I would like by Sunday evening to have the 2 done. The 12 remaining are 6 UP, 3 CP and 3 NS. Those final 12 will get processed next weekend when I return from the the delayed Nova Scotia golf outing. Boy time flies.

enjoy the day

Well, howdy there internet peeps and former pork chops.

It's Troy again...

Prepping to hit the road today. Got the neighbor lady set to watch the house and give the fuzzbutt his treats. I've cleaned out (bleach, followed by vinegar) his water fountain, and he's got fresh water. Need to clean out the litter robot next, so the neighbor lady doesn't have to mess with that unless he gets it stuck somehow.

The worst part of vacationing is the initial travel. That's today. We'll be leaving NE Indiana and heading via Detroit to Ontario. My desire is to use the Windsor Tunnel under the river. Been across the bridge 30 years ago, so we'll go for the tunnel this time.

at the moment AQI looks better in Hamilton Ont (SW tip of lake Ontario) than here.

Lake Erie in the lower half, Lake Ontario right middle. Niagara Falls between those two, and on our itinerary.

I'll be playing games tomorrow and Sunday. No idea what the wife will be up to. She'll have a car, and a credit card. Fortunately, she's not a shopper. But, there will probably be a museum or two in her future.
Sounds like you'll be in my backyard if your going to the Falls. Just north of there in Lewiston (10 minute drive) is their art festival this weekend.

Good Morning, Folks!

It's only about 52F this morning in the sun. This type of weather is easy to get along with, though. I shall neither sweat, freeze, or get soaked when I walk the dog.

Guy - Do fire trucks and other emergency vehicles have a way to bypass that closed bridge?
No. Once that bridge is closed, there is no fire truck or ambulance access to the west side of town. The nearest emergency services would come from Fox Creek which is one hour distant. Helicopters would be used if warranted. Mind you, with that bridge closed, access to the airport is also cut-off to folks on the east side of the river.
Believe me, people have been whining about that problem for decades now. - I think the fact that two rivers meet at that location creates all sorts of engineering issues and cost considerations preventing the construction of an overpass.
I note today, people are complaining because their cars are on the west side of the river, and they are on the east side. But, I believe they are starting to let vehicles squeeze through.

Well, I don't have any new rail photos to share. So, I suppose I'll make tracks walking the dog, and drop down a rare photo deprived post.
Have a great day!
