The upcoming election might be the worst choice of candidates since 1976.
Willie: It cold possibly be the worst choice of candidates ever....

I know a lot more about politics, and watch it with interest just to see how we're gonna get screwed over this cycle.
Troy: Sometimes, It's better to play ostrich. Driving around I see the "T" flags flying from mail boxes and from pick-up beds. A classic phrase from Simon & Garfinkle's "Mrs. Robinson. "No matter who wins, you lose", comes to mind. Yeah, wake me when it's over.

Players' salaries are out of line with production with very few arguable exceptions. Longterm guaranteed contracts are foolish. It will only end when teams stop overpaying. As a fan it sucks to see players go, but the madness must end.
Louis: I don't disagree with you, but I also feel that of an owner wants to throw money at his players, so be it. I do object to the owners expecting the tax payer to finance their venture. $600M to the Ravens and O's comes to mind, although other owners in other cities are making similar demands. Cheap John wants other financial considerations, from the tax payers in addition to the $600M and the Ravens have a "Me Too". It is totally preposterous to pass on all of this to already over taxed people to benefit The ownership for the sake of entertainment for the masses.

Franklin has become a hurricane and is headed for open sea. There is still hope, (from the news media),that the storm will affect the East Coast...It's their Negative Bias. Meanwhile Cyclone #10 is located between Mexico and Cuba and entering the Caribbean headed NW, toward Texas. Locally, today was beautiful, at least while I was out back. 87 ° high, although it felt cooler, and sunny. Currently 68° and clear with a calm wind. Only going to 79° tomorrow, and mid 70s through Thursday.

Picked 14 Grape tomatoes today, plus 7 two days ago. that plus 2 yellow squash was our yield this season. Maybe another 20 grape tomatoes by next week. As Tom stated, too much rain, not enough sun, and I might add piss poor plant stock this season.

Mikey: Beautiful job on the park benches.

Curt: Sounds like you had a great morning. Trust your feeling better.

Sherrel: Take care buddy. When I was a kid, I used to get Bronchitis this time of year, and that was before I fell into bad habits. Don't hesitate going to a quick care if you don't see improvement.

Spoke to my oldest son last night. he hopes to come down in October, to help me make a few cosmetic repairs before I put the place on the market. He will be home from Korea in 44 more days.

Giants - Jets preseason game is on TV, along with the Angels - Mets. Angels are another team threatening to relocate. The play by play crew implied that this was the final pre season game...season starts next Sunday? I know NCAA opens on Saturday the 2nd.
Hey, where did summer go? There's a maple tree that is already turning yellow green in the next block. and a couple of tall oaks are showing color at the very top. Some early migrating birds are showing up also...what does nature know that we don't?

Yankees lost, Washington won, Mets and Orioles losing, Phillies winning. The Jets and Washington winning, Baltimore losing. Notre Dame beat Navy.

The culture of corporate welfare is as far out of line as players' salaries. It's not only sports, Amazon, Walmart, and others are getting away with it too. All of it must end!

Morning all! Coffee in the basement for me today!

Wife decided, while I was out yesterday, that she was going to oxyclean the porcelian tiles in the kitchen. That made her decide that WE are going to seal them today.

Fortunately, whomever put in the floor left behind a spare tile, and I discovered its porcellanato

So, after I shower, I'm off to Menards to pick up this impregnator sealer

and a couple of pet gates to keep the cat off the sealer for half a day. It says light traffic ok in 3 hours, so if we can get 6 without him investigating, I'll count it as a win.

Yes, I know cats jump. Ours doesn't do heights. Back of the recliner is the highest he goes. We rarely - if ever - find him on the kitchen counters, so a pet gate and a big sheet of cardboard attached to the top of the gate should be enough to stop him.

Good Morning All. Partly cloudy and 80° at sunrise this morning. Today's high is predicted to be only 96°, and not get any higher until next weekend. Expecting moderate north winds and partly to mostly cloudy days until Friday. No rain though, although it did rain nearby yesterday afternoon while I was in the pool. Skies darkened and thunder was heard, but the isolated cells were no closer than 5 miles north. Temperature did drop from 109° to 101°in just a couple of minutes due to the storm outflow.

Hopefully this week's weather will reverse the pool water temperature rise which topped out at 91° yesterday evening. It's 88° this morning. I took a short dip after walking this morning.

Heading out in another hour or so to the NMRA National Train Show being held about an hour away. Camera battery is charged, credit card is ready, cash in pocket for extras and I'm otherwise ready. Hope to see you there.

Slow progress out in the train shed yesterday, very slow. Attaching the horizontal rails to the fence is a process where you glue it into position on one post, hold it and wait for the glue to dry, and then move to the next one. I did this 23 times before heading over to the workbench.

I decided then and there that the lower rail will only extend part of the way down the sides, and will not be installed along the back; but I will disguise it's absence with vegetation.
At the workbench, I made one of the two gates.
IMG_0266.JPG

At that point I discovered the first of the expected Walther's issues. The holes in the gate hangers are not large enough for the wire that is supplied, so I had to carefully drill them out by an additional .010".

I'll do the next ones while the parts are still on the sprue.
Project will progress on Monday.

Mikey - Park benches look really good. Nice job on them. I'll be in Alabama towards the end of October if they are in your way. I could swing by.
Sherrel - Positive thoughts and prayers for John from us in Texas.

Everybody have a great Sunday.

Ha! You just gave him a challenge!
So far he's behaving.

I saved a rather large cardboard box from his giant alien-spaceship pooping palace. Cut it in two panels of two and they fit nicely. One fills the four-foot-wide hallway, and the other flush mounts against the opening from the dining area into the kitchen.

I joked with the wife that I feel like the evil step-father, and wondered when the singing animals would show up to help her with the floors...

Happy Sunday: 76° and sunny. Going to 82°. Extended forecast calls for high temperatures mostly in the mid 70s in the coming week.

Local schools start 9/7/23 - end 6/20/24.

Anyone see the story about the two women wounded by gunshots at the White Sox game, in Chicago yesterday? Apparently the bullets originated from a location outside the stadium. The injuries were relatively minor, but...Story was in the Athletic this morning and probably in other media, though Meghan and Harry items take precedence...

Willie: Enjoy the National train Show! I went to one in Philadelphia, back while I was still working for Amtrak. Had a great time, picked up numerous catalogs and sample packs. Bought a few items, mainly passenger cars. Surprised at how many coworkers were there...

I downloaded both the April 28, 1957 PRR Passenger train consist booklet, and the April 28, 1957 Public System Timetable, to pruse and research in connection with the pending arrival of my Walthers PRR Baggage - Dormitory and Tavern Observation cars.
1957 was a pivotal year for PRR, (and other RR), passenger service. First, the country was mired in a recession, and a major steel strike, causing revenues to drastically fall. PRR retired most Heavyweight sleeping cars from regular service, mostly retaining betterment cars to fill out secondary consists. PRR also engaged in wholesale consolidation of "Blue Ribbon Trains", including the Liberty Limited, the Red Arrow, The General/Trail Blazer and Clevelander and Indianapolis Limited. The Gotham Limited was rebranded the Pennsylvania Limited when that train was made part of the Liberty Limited. It was the first time that the Trail Blazer's observation car went from the rear end of the General to the head end behind the baggage car, to facilitate handling through NY cars from Harrisburg to New York, off of other trains.

Movement at 0700 this morning was Southeast at 5MPH...so perhaps the storm is unsure where it wants to go. The SofE was probably declared prematurely for political / media considerations considering the Governour's ambitions. The storm does deserve watching, because we all know what these storms can do.

Pissed off to the max.:mad::mad: Went out to go to the train show and the damn car wouldn't start. Wife had left in the other one to Dallas to babysit our granddaughter. So I am stranded. Checked out the battery in the key fob, it's good. Tried the headlights, nothing. Dead car battery. Hadn't actually used the car in about two weeks. I could walk up to the neighbors and we could take the time to replace it, but by the time we finished and I drove another hour to the show, it would be almost over. Might just as well wait until Arlene gets home this afternoon, cause I'm too pissed to tackle it now anyway.:mad::mad:

Can you jump start it with the tractor, and replace it when you get to town?

Jump start it with the tractor, drive to the train show. If the battery is just discharged from sitting, no problem. If it’s shot, we’ll I can think of worse places to get marooned!!

Yes, except the cables are in the other car! Dumb move since it's newer, but it is my wife's primary vehicle. Thought that I had two sets, but cannot locate the second set right now.

Good morning, all! We awoke to a feels like of 104. Forecasters are saying today will be the hottest recorded in Houston. Could use a day of Tom's Santa weather for little bit.

Willie - battery might just be low. Happened to me about 4 weeks ago. My mower wouldn't start. Went to get a new battery. They tested mine and told me there was nothing wrong. just needed charging. Their explaination was this extreme heat is having affects on batteries not getting a lot of use. Brought it home, charged it and it has been working ever since.

I've been working on a new scene. When finished, it will be a hobo camp.

STAY SAFE
LATER

Afternoon All,

Started out with a walk at 76F and humid. I did some chores today and sorted through detail parts in the train room. I just received the WS fencing from UPS. I won't be able to work on it tomorrow since I have to take Dad to the VA for multiple appointments. Tuesday I have a 9 am appointment that should be quick.

Joe- I'm sure it will be great to see your son. Is he being discharged or on his way to the next posting? Don't worry, Summer has taken up permanent residence here.

Louis- Nice photo.

Troy- Good luck with the honey do list.

Willie- That sounds like a real p.i.t.a. Good thing you have new eyes for the fencing. Sorry to hear about your car and the show.

Sherrel- Best wishes for John. How are you doing?

Hughie- I look forward to seeing your hobo camp.

It's getting ready to storm here. I hope everyone has a good night.
