Good afternoon. Would have been on earlier but was waiting through the rain delay to see who would win at Daytona.

I an very sorry to hear about Greg. Kathy, his wife called this morning to let me know what had happened. It was unfortunate as he really wasn't that old but it seemed that many different problems had cascaded and got the best of him. We had talked for years and found that we had a number of things in common and was able to locate a dachshund puppy for his wife. I will miss him.

Ken - Glad that you were able to fir the modules into the back of the Tesla. I hadn't mentioned it here, but was wondering how you were going to move them when you mentioned that you were trying to sell your truck. Glad things worked out for you.

Todd, Ken - I had thought about putting solar panels on the roof of my old home but considering the price, at my age, I would probably be dead and buried before I would see any savings. Wind would probably also have been a good addition as at the location I was at near the mouth of the canyon, we might have been better off with windmills over solar. I had checked years ago about some smaller windmills and they might have worked. Where I am in this condo, whichis all electric, the highest bill was last month with the heat we had for weeks and the bill was only $63.

Gary - Great photos.

Hughie - Great photo and I like your engineer.

JeffH - That decking came out great. Outstanding job.

Guess it's off to the photo archives. Here is the Libby dam about 18 miles upriver where we get our power from.

I say yes!

Thanks for the kind words! I asked my wife if she had any old makeup I could use for weathering.

She had an old 4-color freebie from Clinique she gave me. It has dark brown and a copper color I used to add grime to the deck. I sealed it with a few coats of Dead-Flat clear spray paint.

I think it came out pretty good. I'm happy with it!

Good evening. Presently 75°, where it's been holding for several hours, dark, cloudy and rather humid. We are down to one week and a day until BENNY GO HOME! day, aka Labor Day. It should have been a good season for all those merchants and landlords who rely on the Memorial Day through Labor Day time frame to make their fortunes. As seasons go, this one has been quiet, since the Cops cracked down on flash parties.

Here, halfway between the Coast and the Pineys, it was another quiet weekend. The folks who have the noisy parties have matured somewhat, and found other ways of entertaining themselves.

I spent some time trying to get glue the railings of the tank car rack to the deck... try again tomorrow. Once finished, I have two more to assemble and glue together for the "Sinclair Siding". (Reading Served). I find that 1 to 2 hours is the most I can productively spend in the train room before I lose patience. But, if I can do that each day, I will make progress.

Anyone else following Iron Belt Ken's blog on the MRH forum? it's worth the read.

Jeff: Fine work on your pier and related structures.

Every time I say something positive about the Baltimore Orioles, I seem to jinx them...just like wearing a Mets shirt when Sherzer is pitching guarantees his performance will not be rewarding. But they are currently 7 wins over .500, with 3 days left in August. 4th in the AL East 67w-60l. and 1.5 games out of a wild card slot.
Last year they were 40w-88l on the same day 5th and last place in the AL East, and eliminated from the post season.

Guy: Congratulations both for your self and spouse, and your son.

Crazy! I actually have this brand new in the box with the Post Office and all! I should sell it lol!

Birds win 2 out of 3 in Houston! The Astros are the best in the AL.
Sorry to see Verlander leave the game in the 3rd inning. I'd like to see him win the Cy Young. I thought that might open the door for the birds. The Astros bullpen did not let that happen. Next the birds are on to Cleveland.

How could I forget to mention western Movies!? I love so many old westerns. "True Grit" John Wayne was best, but the remake is good too. There are so many others.

Old TV shows, Laramie is my favorite, but also many other good ones.

Yep, still learning all the features of the Tesla. I have the solar array so free electricity now. Haven't had an electric bill for over a year now. I had a level two charger installed so I can charge to 100% overnight. Takes about 6 hours from a 5% battery. I'm sure the Supercharge can do it in 45 minutes.
No dogs, no kids, no wife. I can't figure out the personal seat position. Everytime I get in the car it wants to crush me up against the steering wheel. I'm 6'4" but it wants to set things for a midget. I have to hit the stop icon on the screen, then it backs away but starts forward again. I've tried easy entry, that doesn't help. I have to hit my icon name a couple times.
Still not clear why the car shouldn't be charged to 100%.
Disregard. Just found it. Regenerative braking won't work and it degrades the battery faster.
If you are the only driver, so name change required so no setting required then I think you may be mistaking the entry setting for your personal setting as the car sets back for easy access..then moves forward to your setting, with your height you may need that amount anyway, so get out of car car will then go into the set back position get in…where you apparently then get jammed up against the steering wheel because likely the engineer who set it up was much shorter push the right buttons on the side of you seat 💺 to the required position and then set that as your personal position.
FYI Just check you are not accidentally in valet mode, which could well have a shorter setting and be overriding your personal setting. Although that would be reducing any number of your other options so if that is the case just check what you lost so you do not get confused when suddenly you get extra options.
Your name up on the top screen is an option and can be accidentally hidden,so learn how to get it back on display. play with the lumber as for your height and ratio of leg to body it will result in a comfier ride.
best of luck, we love our 3 so much we are buying a y we have the cybertruck order in place…if it ever arrives we will need to trade one in because 2 cars is excess 3 cars just silly. We benefit fron 3 phase so get a good. Speed and with a 25kw invertor like you loads of solar and the government subsidises the production, usage and export which would have meant 8-12 years payback leaning towards 8 on figures until this summer which will forshorten the payback way faster, plus as we invested cash up front no repayment, so the income off sets our usage, but once winter comes or a cloudy spring or autumn you loose loads and need conventional as we are not living in a sunny state, but we are getting woodburners, and have loads of trees which over the years as they die we have left not tidied for the wildlife and will provide ‘free’ woodburning fuel. The drought this year will unfortunately add more.

We love our Tesla, we went white on white, next is red on white, and if the paint ever takes a hit we will get it wrapped. Y needs bigger wheels or can look silly, and is not as fast as the 3, but still way faster than most and in the uk the only time you really speed is joining the motorway, which when driving with the other half involves bracing myself lol.

If anyone here had any info on woodburners would love to see reviews, tips tricks, out first is bought just needs fitting we went with a la Nordica xxl wood burner stove in red. looking forward to cooking on wood, reliable recipes, for when the bbq is not available. am considering a baked apple pie (often called apple pi lol) for the dining room, so when not needing much we can cook, eat and watch tv as there are arm chairs there two plus that room is surrounded by other rooms so no heat loss directly to outside…win win, only 19l not as big as the la Nordica but that would be a family cooker plus the kitchen is at one end of the bungalow so heat will go kitchen utility pantry but rest likely without fans will go outside not into main home, the large lounge has a wood fire may be cone a woodburner BUT it’s a large room for 2 people it was a n extension so 2 long walks big window and French doors and attached tall windows, and a flat room which we replaced not long after we bought it and did add sone insulation but not anywhere as much as we should have, it would likely lose lots of heat,so tends to be a visitors reception room and only has a small tv. any tweaks from experienced users will be much appreciated.

Everyone keeps drifting to the perspective of solar panels of break even point. The thing ya should be looking at is home energy costs and where it's going. Petroleum will end. That has been said many times and efforts to that end aren't just sorta maybe.
While most people ignore what's bein said by powers that be because they're above all that. Other's are payin attention. My neighbors are sayin, "when power goes out they'll come to my house, or when gas is gone they'll catch a ride with me." Sorry folks. You all should have been payin attention, now, get off my lawn.
True though the other half said if inflation goes uppppp and his job goes bannnng then we have two cars with basically free fuel, one on our fast charger as we have 3 phase and the other on a normal 13 amp,or a second charger if worth it but we lose the fast charger potential if two so why would you, but my brother can charge his hybrid here and does when visiting, and yes if we knew any others in summer when we are literally spewing solar electricity to the grid we could let others charge here….however in a grid down situation I solar is not off grid and goes wtf where my internet connection…we are considering a small off grid to trick the system to work but it will still go looking to chat to the main grid, the small grid would do lights as emergency back up, but to get our feed in tariff and the government piggy bank we had to be on grid, when that ends we like many others will likely change our invertor, and the electricity companies will be forced to pay us a decent return,so government scheme ends, but likely a better (‘we can only hope) export price occurs, otherwise we will likely be letting neighbours and friend use it when we know it has the excess and we can set it to only do that and not accidentally pay for what the house uses subbing others…ouch. Unfortunately the tractor is diesal, as is the ride in lawnmower, we ,might look at electric but to be honest we bought the tractor just before the ad blue law so we do not have that issue and we do not use either enough to consider upgrading, new items will constrained by laws but older items

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those of the photon-powered generation.

A PhD rocket scientist friend of mine who is very into the emerging Solar field is watching and very hopeful for Electric Powered big ship traffic.

I'm up. Foot has improved <knocks wood> but not out of the woods yet.

In other news, The Guardian has an interesting piece on Ozzy Osbourne.

I'm not a huge BS fan, nor Ozzy fan, but following their "reality" TV show I started to pay attention and catch a few songs here and there. Interesting character. He recently did a one song gig in the UK and is moving back home from the US soon.

Rainy all day today off and on. I started building my gaming table yesterday.
gametable.jpg

I got that far with standing on the sore foot before I tossed in the towel for the day. I'll work some more on it today since it's going to be wet outside. Using 1x4, with some recycled from the part of my layout table that got demolished. New table is going to be 4 ft x 6ft

I will add a 1x6 outer fascia all around after I get the plywood on top. The idea is to have about a 1 inch lip above the play surface to keep dice and little soldiers from doing death dives off the edge. I'd like to have the 1x6 facia hinged at the bottom along the long edges. Flip those down for a little staging area for the figures.

Maybe not. I haven't figured it out yet.

Morning all,

Just about to head to the office. Currently 69° and mostly clear. High today about 96°.

Not much happening, didn't get to the trains. Still too busy, weekends just aren't long enough anymore. Wife feeling anxious about being retired in a month. Not sure how I can help.

Good morning all! 73 heading for 86 with a heat index of 95. Supposed to be uncomfortably humid according to the weather prognosticators. Back to work after a mostly restful weekend. Didn't really accomplish anything to speak of. I had misread the schedule for my online math class and found that my new lessons wouldn't be available to work on until today instead of Saturday as I had thought, so I didn't get anything done with that over the weekend.

Took my wife shopping a few places Saturday and we planned to eat at one of our favorite restaurants but our daughter's family called and wanted to take us out to eat somewhere else. That was fine because I love the place we wound up going too. Spent yesterday doing very little. Watched the disaster of a NASCAR race and that's about it.

Back to work today. Hoping to stay inside in the air conditioning but ya never know. Hope you all have a great day!

Good morning gang!
Watched the disaster of a NASCAR race and that's about it.

I only saw highlights, but it looked like a cluster . Now it's time to weed out the men from the boys.

Spent most of the day yesterday working on the interior of the lil red truck. Must have sweated off 10 pounds vacuuming out the interior, cleaning carpets, seats, door jams windows and interior panels. 19 years of use gone in an afternoon and it looks great. I also ran a buffer over 1 side of the hood just for giggles, SWMBO just said "wow".

#5 arrived home over the weekend with a sick truck, code PO420, cat converter failure. Parts ordered, coulda bought another brass engine for what that cost me!

Well, back to work today for some R&R!

L8ter!

Yes, I have been and have commented occasionally on IB KEN’s excellent thread at the MRH Forums. His story has brought back many good memories

I built my own gurney type roll on for the Tesla. It has wheels on one end and a lift handle on the other. The flat sheet of plywood is laid in the back end of the car, the five modules loaded onto it then it's lifted on the one end and rolled into the car.
I'll have to improve the protection between each module as I ripped one of the tracks part way off one with a blanket cover.

Good morning. The weatherChannel app says it is 71 now going to 85 and there is a chance of severe weather. But, under the hourly temperature guesses they show the % for rain. Nothing in the next 24 hours over a 15% chance. So the severe weather note is covering for the “pop up” event. Yesterday we received on the north deck 1.25” in the manual rain gauge. I love when the amount is on an easy line to read!

Soccer drama, yes there was more yesterday! But they lost game 2 at 12:15 so they did not advance to the final game. Yesterday‘s after game meal was at a local area restaurant and except for me everyone seemed to order the same thing as Saturday at 5Guys. Minus the beers, the bill was 20+ less then 5Guys and just as good. There were no $14.99 hamburgers at the local place, all under 10.

Thinking back on what I did in the train room yesterday, it turns out nothing. No wrong. I did go in last night for the garbage bin for this morning’s already done pick up. Now I feel better.

Other then my normal Monday vacuuming I remember no conversations about plans for us today. I do know she has her nails being done after 10AM. So, it’s a free day!

enjoy the day

Good Morning All. Clear and 78° heading into the mid-90's later today. A carbon copy of yesterday. The rest of the week shows little change except minor chance or rain tomorrow and Thursday.

Mowing continued yesterday and I completed my target areas on the south side of the estate. Today is the rest of the north side.
Then I caught up with the entire tomato harvest and canned five pints of tomato sauce. I need to pick more this morning which I can see from the bedroom window. It's nice to have the entire dining room table empty.
The traffic pattern on the road out front has changed since school started, so I am shifting my morning walk 90 minutes later, now about 8:30. I don't want to be in the way of the kids texting and driving at the same time. Note photo from last week. Now as in the case of my kids 20 years ago, many rural kids driving to school do not have a DL yet.

Thanks as always for the reactions yesterday; Sherrel, Guy, Gary, Karl, Hughie, Joe, Tom, Smudge, Chet, Louis, Patrick, OB Ken, James, George.

As I mentioned yesterday, I printed some background buildings to add to the scene that I am working on.
IMG_1559.JPG

IMG_1560.JPG

The colors didn't quite work out the way they should have. Kind of a pinkish overtone. So I set them in place to see how they looked.
IMG_1562.JPG

Well they might just work since they are supposed to be in the shadows of the near structures. I printed them at 85% so they are a little smaller than scale to give a "depth of perception" look. I'll go back next and raise them up about 1/2" and go from there. I've got to trim the white from the top of the RH one, which I didn't do in case I didn't use them.

Gary - In the first picture in post #1429, there appears to be a missing bridge on the left side!
Troy - I thought that Diet Dr Pepper had no caffeine?
Alan - Good to see you again. Beautiful locomotives.

Everybody have a wonderful Monday.

Good morning all,

I am dragging a little today, then read the sad news about Greg. I kept busy all weekend, some work on the train, also did an engine clean treatment on the old Suburban, probably have to go over it again a couple times but it is getting the gunk off. Did the usual firewood cutting Saturday morning, then we had on off drizzle.

Willie - interesting idea with the background buildings, I will be following how this materializes

Found this big guy walking across the yard yesterday afternoon, he was running but pulled in when he got a sense of me:

IMG_2586.JPG

He looked a lot bigger in person, check out those feet" Big snapper with a fat neck.

Jeff - the riverside scene looks great!!

Karl - I always find cleaning up the old truck a satisfying activity

Troy - I thought I was looking at model railroad benchwork

I finished a lot of the landscape material yesterday, still need to do the water and shoreline:

IMG_2588.JPG

so the foreground and hillside is all new ground cover. Will have to buy some new fine ground foam to finish the layout

back later, Dave LASM
