I gave up alcohol and lost 20 pounds without trying. Then, about a year or so after I gave up alcohol, I cut down on carbs. The biggest issue with giving up alcohol, is that your body still craves the carbohydrates. Once that craving subsided, I just didn't feel the need anymore... my eating behavior changed, and I have lost another 30 pounds as a result.

I'm down 50 pounds since February 2020, and all I have done is cut out alcohol entirely, and have also eliminated the additional carbs I started to eat to make up for the lack of carbs from quitting alcohol.

To give some perspective, I was consuming over 1,200 calories a day in alcohol when I decided to quit. Alcohol is converted to sugars when you metabolize it.

I'm at a plateau now... I'll need to exercise more to keep the weight loss going. My knees protest.

The birds have won the last four of six from AL East opponents. Not to mention wild card contenders!
Two out of three from Tampa and two out of three from the Blue Jays.

It took monumental pitching performances in the two losses. One was 8 perfect innings and the other was 6 perfect innings. Neither resulted in a shutout. To be honest I felt bad for both pitchers.
Good pitching and defense beats good hitting almost every time!

Earl Weaver did not believe you needed long winning streaks to win a pennant. He used to say "win two out of three, is all you need to do" and the birds had a long winning streak!
If this keeps up, I may climb on the playoff bandwagon. Either way this has been a great season for my baby birds. They won't disappoint me.

Time for me to chime in ...
I love tuna,
I love catfish,
I am a dummy when it comes to computers!
I still have a framing hammer that I found on the highway 40 years ago!

Great photo LASM

Curt
- prolly no move for a while. The Spousal Unit wants a single story home - she has all the money - I have to follow her lead - and she is pretty smart and nice to look at too! LOL

Willie - What are you showing me on the trees?

TomO - Your ramblings are interesting reading.

I come back later

Tickled me yesterday but saved for today

I had my yellow handled fiberglass hammer at least 40 years, still wonder what happened to it. I bought a green handled one to replace it, about 10 years ago, still have that one.

The (kind of ) stupid things I still have after many years, a glass paperweight with a photo of 3 year old Dave (me) set into it, which I made in second or third grade. At least it doesn't take up much space.

On the other track... ever wonder if maybe that is really what it is all about?

Dave

And buying the green one did not cause the yellow one to re-appear? I don't believe it. Every time I have to replace something that got misplaced, as soon as I buy the replacement, the original re-appears.

Afternoon All,

Started out running an errand and cleaning the pool filter. In the train room I put together 3 lights on one lead to the buss, then mounted them in the freight house. After that I put in the interior, then after lunch I cut out and installed the rest of the roof trusses. After that I played around with the sub roof and looked at the provided small sheets of shingles and am worried there's not enough provided so I've made the decision to use what I have in my roofing drawer (yes I have a set of plastic drawers with building materials in them). Tomorrow I hope to finish the build (on the workbench).

I was looking online for someone that makes Pennsy building signs. The one I used in the past no longer does HO. Amazingly I found a guy in town that can do it (laser cut and unpainted).

Thank you for all the photo likes yesterday.

Terry- That is true dedication to not wasting food. I can take or leave canned tuna, but love Ahi tuna seared.

TomO- Ooooh, another layout project...I love it. Look forward to seeing what you do.

Troy- That's pretty neat.

Smudge- I guess that's the 1940's version of the SCUD missle. Save both the UK and US. Aim it at DC.

Joe- Thank you and thanks for the info,

Patrick- There's a lot of us with that diagnosis 😂.

Ken (IL)- Your president sounds like a good guy.

rgeiter- Nice video and nice looking layout.

George- That's a great idea.

Steve- Nice to see you back in the Coffee Shop.

I hope everyone has a good night.

I was half expecting that to happen.

Just about as bad as buying some new rail joiners then finding an unopened pack in the drawer when I went to put the new ones away.

I've never seen yellow grasshoppers. Kind of spooky looking. All the ones in Ohio are basically various tan to brown colors, maybe some green here and there.
Yellow ones are the most populous here. We have tan, brown, green and a few black ones as well. This variety is called a Differential Grasshopper. They do not normally eat the tomato vines which are poisonous to most creatures, but they like a good ripe red tomato with an easily pierced skin. In the pictures that I posted this morning, you can see that they ate every leaf off the Mulberry trees, which eventually killed all of the trees; but the Bur Oaks in the background are relatively unscathed. Note that they don't really eat grass! Spraying poison doesn't work, as it just leaves space for more to invade from nearby. The best control is a good soaking 2"-3" rainfall in late April which drowns the young ones. Second best localized control is to chew them to smithereens with the lawnmower while they are still less than 1.5" in length and can't hop far enough out of the way. The neighbors guinea hens love them as well, but are usually too full before they make it over to my place.
Fortunately they are not too numerous this year, but they are getting about one tomato out of every 250, most of which can still be processed after cutting away the eaten part.

I'm actually curious: Do you have chickens? You're self-sustaining in most other ways, I had to stop and ponder

Self - Has Willie ever mentioned chickens on his "ranch"?

Not any more. We've decided to be dependent-free a few years back and chickens need some attention every few days or so. My next door neighbor raises chickens for eggs, and I trade tomatoes for them. When we had kids at home during the 80's-90's, I had around 24 or so, some of which we ate!
