One of those nights when my sleep is interrupted. The thing I don't like to talk about or even think about is hard to ignore in my sleep.
Thank God these nights are not a regular occurrence.
That is what I get for even mentioning it in the first place.
Haunting dreams of un-washed un-varnished dirty trains can keep even the most seasoned modeler awake at night.

And, yep... those darn things that we can't easily let go of are always waiting to come back until we can deal with them.

Somebody kick Mel's chair and wake him up. this place needs fresh coffee.

Foot is on the mend. Now I just have to avoid being stupid and reinjuring it.

I've added this "Night Sock" to the toolbag of foot repair:

It keeps the foot flexed at night and lets the tendon heal in a stretched position.

Add in massage with the tennis ball on the painful areas to keep the scar tissue from forming and constantly re-tearing, along with a percussion massager.

As mentioned by others, good footwear. While healing, that's Birkenstocks for me. For others, custom molded insoles. The Birks are practical replacements of that for me. They really fit my feet well.

And the NSAID "Arthritis" Cream (Brand name Voltaren gel)... cuts down on inflammation and pain.

I apply some in the morning then use the KT tape along the foot length and a second strip under the arch. This vid shows how to use it, with the appropriate tension.

I also use a percussion massager in addition to the tennis ball trick. You can see how in the Bob & Brad PT video

For those interested... like all muscle/tendon issues, this takes a while to heal, and it's not a simple process. Normally, I don't get a tear in the tendon this bad. But I did quite the number on it.

OK, back to your regular Train talk

Morning all,

68° and partly cloudy going for a high of 80°. Headed to the office shortly not expecting much. It was nice not to have any phone calls yesterday.

Speaking of SSD's, they are getting smaller. This is the one in the desktop I bought on Black Friday:

20220812_140859.jpg

About 1" square, 256 Gb. About 1/3rd the size of any I've seen lately. Had the machine open to add 16Gb of ram for a total of 32Gb. Why you may ask? Because I could. 😆

Good morning all! Crazy busy day yesterday and going to be crazier today as I won't have either of my helpers at work. I'm going in early so I can get started on all the last minute stuff before classes start tomorrow. A LOT of work to get done and hoping I don't have to stay late to get it all done. I missed quite a few pages of posts here since I last posted and will have to go back and read them later. Just stopping by for a quick look this morning before getting in gear and heading to work.

I did manage to make it to the model railroad club meeting last night and was glad I did. I miss being more active with the club but too many other things in life are keeping me from it. Maybe if I ever get to re-retire I can get back into it more.

All the new computers we're buying at work have those tiny little SSD's in them. My new laptop here at home has one too.
Oh, and of course you add more RAM anytime you have the opportunity :-D

Hope you all have a great day!

Terry, what can you tell me about this video card? If and when you have time that is.

ASUS GeForce GTX 1050 Ti 4GB Phoenix Fan Edition DVI-D HDMI DP 1.4 Gaming Graphics Card (PH-GTX1050TI-4G) Graphic Cards

It's a decent card, about the oldest and least card I'd want. It doesn't draw a lot of power, and will play most games at medium settings, if not better. It runs on the power supplied by the motherboard of the computer, you don't have to run extra power cables to it. They are readily available on the used market for $100 or so.

Good morning all,

We have a little light rain and 65°. Supposed to be a few isolated showers today, we could use some rain cause a yards are showing some brown grass.

Wife ordered a rug from Hom furniture about 5 months ago, I guess it came in yesterday. She is ecstatic! I didn't think we needed another rug, but if it makes her happy and it fits into our budget, fine. I was ready to cancel the order, but considering what inflation has been we are getting a really good deal.

Curt - looking forward to that Freight Shed getting set out on the layout!!

Gary - lots going on with your trackwork, looks like you are still planning things out?

Troy - hope the foot mends quickly. Glad I don't suffer with that condition since walking is the best exercise I get.

Here is a photo of the back side of the feed mill. I can fit lots of cars on this siding, I build it mainly for storage of box cars. I wonder what they predominately used to haul grain back in the 20's and 30's? I know box cars were popular for this, wonder when the covered hoppers came into regular play?

The way my layout is constructed, I can get to the backside cause it is not pushed up against the wall in the corners.

back later, Dave

My father, Bob Rands, would be delighted that the Dwiggins family is purchasing the company he started in 1964 and Donna and I are thrilled to see my father’s legacy continue. It should be noted that ME has an 18-month backlog, and filling of those orders is top priority. But, for those of us who use ME products, it's good to know that thte company isn't dead.

Good morning from a morning of coolness in Wisconsin. 57f/13.8c heading to 78f/25.5c with another calm day of wind. No outside decks this morning until it hits 65 but I am inside on the pool deck over looking the very green rolling fields. Some wispy clouds but a nice bright morning.

We did talk about driving down to Oak Park, Illinois today to take a tour of Frank Lloyd Wright’s house and studio. Then on the way home hitting Lombard Hobbies. One of the best brick and mortar shops for trains IMO in the US and definite top 5 for online pricing and service. But, no, not happening unless she who decides has a change of heart.

Today has no appointments, no grocery runs, no shopping, baking or visitors planned for either of us. Yesterday at the most I spent 1 minute 3 times in the train room. I walked through to my beverage cooler to grab a soda each time. The choice yesterday was a diet Cream Soda. The no caffeine stuff is in the trainroom and my daily morning Diet caffeinated Dr Pepper or diet Cherry Pepsi is in the main kitchen’s frig.

I am unsure of what I might do as nothing is pressing. The check car light came on a few weeks ago telling me 1000 miles before your check up is due. So with 400 miles before it is due I called yesterday for an appointment. I can get in 4 weeks from now! But, get this! I could drive in for express service at 12:45 daily because that is the end of their lunch time and use the Express service without an appointment and be done in about 1 hour but definitely promised to be done by 4 depending on how busy. So, Terry called her Mercedes dealer service specialist and asked if they will do my VW. Said yes, they will be here Friday at 8:15AM and do it in the trailer they have. Since my VW is still under the service deal they will handle that too!

enjoy the day

Good Morning All. Around here it's clear and 78°, but with developing clouds. They say it might rain tomorrow and the high will only be 86°. Low to mid-80's and a chance for thundershowers all of next week, possibly with 4" of rain total!

First day of school around here today. I'll have to pay attention to when the school bus passes by and what direction it's going in every afternoon.
I spent yesterday morning doing laundry, splitting wood and shredding brush again. Tomatoes got put off until today.

Thanks for all of the likes and comments offered yesterday regarding my continued slow progress; Dave B, Louis, James, Tom O, Moermusic, Karl, Mike, Sherrel, Gary, Mikey, Curt, George, Tom, Smudge, Rick, OB Ken.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I made slow progress on the chain link fence. I glued the last three posts, and redid two that had come loose.
Since one was the corner, I started the rail on the backside also. No pictures as it looks the same as the side. Over on the layout, I added a forklift and figures, trailer and Roadway truck, and some minor details to the loading dock of the coffee distributors.

I still need to find suitable material to remake those dock roof supports.
I also added a couple of employee vehicles to the parking lot.

Sherrel -
I remember that a guided tour through the sewers of PARIS was certainly an eye opening experience. There are literally "rivers" of sewage running through huge tunnels deep beneath the streets - it did not smell except for a little musty!
About 25 years ago, I toured (by jeep) the 17 mile long stormwater drain tunnel located below Central Expressway in Dallas. This tunnel is 24' in diameter and ends in a huge underground cavern near downtown. It was built about 70 years ago just to take storm water off the freeway. Dallas has several more tunnels and man-made underground reservoirs built in the last 30 years.
Ken (D&J) - Nice looking hillside. It would take me two years to build and install that many trees.
Dave B - I believe in expansion joints as well, even the unintentional ones.
OB Ken - Good luck with the new semester.

Today would have been Mae West's 129th birthday!
Everybody have a great day. Be safe and cool.

Well,

Most difficult trouble ticket of the day...Assistant City Manager can't open folders or files, has his machine been hacked? He's trying to finalize the City Budget, and needs his machine fixed...I walk into his office and he shows me what's going on and moves over so I can work on the issue. I move the heavy spiral bound budget docs off the alt key and tell him it's fixed. He laughed and said close the ticket as stupid user error...I know better.

I'm sorry... my mind isn't right. This is all my mind could think about when I read that sentence. I wonder if there is any relationship?

Oh, and I'm spending my day taking a Weight Loss and Exercise "class" online so I can qualify for the health insurance discount. Evidently, working with my doctor is no longer an option. And yes, dealing with BS level online classes of this nature is one of my triggers. But I'm being nice (mostly) in my online comments

I am gonna guess the stuff under the loading dock is intentional trash that gets blown in from the wind and trapped in there, at least that is what it puts me in mind of.

I like it!
