Clubs

I love clubs and people, sadly the one here does a lot of shows. They are constantly packing and unpacking the layout. That side doesn’t interest me sadly but that makes me hypocritical a bit. I like the shows but do not want to run everything back and forth. My preference is like the big clubs have Meet some place and run trains and build.

We do have members who don't like the setup or teardown process either. They'll sit out in their cars until the layout is up and running at the shows then come in and run their trains. On the closing day of the show, they have their stuff packed up and heading out about half hour before teardown. But hey, they're dues paying members with full rights to operate on the club modular setup.

Interesting about the Mimosa tree. We planted one of those about 3 years ago and this summer is the first year it has bloomed. I had no idea they had seed pods.

Once they start with pods, you'll have mimosas everywhere. Took out several large one's (40+ ft) at the daughter's house 5 years ago and they still have the darn things popping up. Not a great tree IMO.

Oh yeah, life's peachy!!!!!

Almost a 1/4 bushel and they're just getting started. One in there I know isn't quite ripe yet, but I knocked it off getting a larger riper one. Yard is mowed as well.

Troy - I am only going to scatter the shoes around that I cut off the legs. Legs are going back into the scrap box.

Save some with foot attached. I'll 3D print you some zombies and you can leave a trail of destruction behind them. Add them to the layout every Oct.

Gas here is about $3.35. A nearby town just raised their gas price from $3.01 to $3.29. Not close enough to pay for the savings, but usually go to that town once every couple of weeks.

Lowest around here is $4.09 at a couple of stations. Convenience stores are $4.13 /$4.14.

Our cheapest gas locally is 3.79/gal. We have a large state gas tax maybe is part of it. We also had a 7 billion dollar state tax surplus, lawmakers adjourned without doing anything with it.

Afternoon All,

Started out with chores then started on the roof shingling. I attached it with 3M transfer tape. That took several hours to do (tedious). After that I glued the roof to the build. Then I glued all the broken support pieces in place (easy peasy). After gluing on the trim pieces that sit below the deck I glued down little people and detail parts. The roof needs some weathering and I need to work on the Pennsy signs that I picked up this afternoon. I'll attach them after painting then the freight house is ready for the layout. Tomorrow I have to drive Dad to the airport in the morning. He'll be gone 2 weeks.

Thank you for the photo likes yesterday. I'll post finished photos tomorrow.

Gas today was $3.36 here.

Steve- That's funny.

Gary- Yep, they're LED's that I get prewired online (Ebay). Sometimes I get them with resistors already wired. Based on the timeframe of my layout (1950's) I get soft white color. The 3 are being reused from my last layout.

Karl- I was going to congratulate you but you had to ruin it.

Ken (IL)- Good luck with the classes. I use to hate night classes.

Evening all,

Things change since this afternoon...wife came home from work and says the daycare she's worked at for the past 16 years is closing it's doors after 60 years. They want them to stay until the end of September and will pay them a retention bonus. She has no place to go and isn't sure what to do. We're figuring out money and bills now. Fortunately we're in pretty good shape, it's just going to be tight until we get used to the new budget.

My cell phone alerts me to incoming Spam or Telemarketer calls. I don't know how, but sometimes I look forward to having some fun, especially after a couple of cold brews. Tonight:
Me: Hello
Caller: I'm [insert name here], (usually spoken in an Asian accent); and I'm calling about your vehicles extended warranty that's about to expire.
-First of all, I haven't bought a new car since 2009 and have never purchased an extended warranty.-
Me: I don't have an extended warranty. You must have a wrong number.

Willie, I love it. He’s probably trying to explain what happened on your call to his supervisor as to why he couldn’t keep you on the line.

Patrick, something will show up for your wife. It’s great she will stay on though.

Well I traded for 10 pulpwood cars and lots of cash for 20 of my weathered ones. He drove 130 miles after a sales call in Green Bay to try to negotiate the prices after we had a deal if his pulp cars were in good shape and they were! Finally told him 6-8 weeks for me to weather his cars that he could leave or buy my 10 and trade your ten. Then he says can you sweeten the deal if he buys 20?

So some retail therapy will be needed tonight! In 10/2021 I had 71 pulpwood cars in inventory. Yes, crazy, I know. Now I have 14 of which only 4 are weathered. I need to find 10 more. The 4 I have left are Wisconsin Central and are my ace in the hole for dealing if I need to. WC pulp cars in Wisconsin are like having your own cash printing press. He wasn’t interested in the WC cars as he lives in Watersmeet, Mi. located in the Upper Penisula. He said about 6 hours to drive home. I offered dinner to him but he said thanks but needed to head towards home.

I was in the trainroom trying to figure out why I made the pulp wood car deal?! He left thrilled. I was sort of feeling bad about what I thought was overcharging where he thinks he got a great deal, so I stopped feeling guilty. He did ask if I would make 20 pulpwood loads and I said no but showed him how I make them and gave him enough pulp sticks cut to size for at least 25 loads. He asked if he could buy my pulp wood piles in the pulp yard on the layout. No f…ing way but I would sell him the piles not on the layout for an outrageous price. He purchased all 5 piles! The 2nd paper mill to be built yet will no longer use pulp wood, just recycled pulp products! Those extra 5 piles were built in 2017 and were in a rubber bin. He still had cash in his wallet and like I said he was thrilled when he left. Ah, to be 32 again with no wife and money to spend on hobbies!

My youngest daughter calls my wife at 8:15 pm. She is worried my grandson, who is staying with us has covid. She wants us to give him a covid test. I don't see why this can't wait until tomorrow. I get up at 2am and my wife is usually already awake. Only thing I see is we are losing sleep.
Covid test is positive. Now my daughter is crying. "I don't want you or mom to get it". I'm glad the boy is here. My daughter is pregnant. I only wish she had not woke me up!

My grandson is down in the family room hooting and hollering with his friends on line. I don't think he is very sick. He had a mild fever and took a nap when he arrived. He told me he feels fine. A little sore throat and a runny nose.
My wife is back to sleep and here I sit.

At this point I think it's mostly Darwinism. Smart people got vaccinated...
