Good Morning All. Clear and 74°, headed up to 96° later on. More like August weather than we've had so far. I'm not at all complaining about the lack of typical summer weather here. Yesterday at 5:00 pm, the pool was a very comfy 83°; I'm not too sure how long that will last as the days are getting shorter and sunlight exposure is going away. I am concerned that it will cool down too much by Labor Day and that will end the enjoyment. Last year we were able to use it until October. One upside of the cloudier days and cooler temperatures is that my chlorine usage has gone down, as intense sunlight burns it up more rapidly. BTW, the nationwide chlorine shortage that was predicted didn't materialize here in North Central Texas, at least as far as the liquid chlorine that I use.

I'll have a couple of sausage, egg and cheese biscuits this morning Flo. Maybe a tall glass of lemonade this morning for a refreshing break. I just don't do coffee at all, even though this is a Coffee Shop.

Thanks once again for the likes yesterday; Christian, Hughie, Guy, Karl, Chad, Rick, Garry, Tom, Gary.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I continued to add field grass (weeds) to the most recent project area in Graham. Still no pictures as it is a time consuming detail to add for so little visual appearance, but it really helps to set the scene when completely done. Another detail that I also think makes things more realistic is license plates on vehicles. I added them to several of the ones that I dull-coated Thursday. Many of my more recent purchases, especially Oxford models, already have them which helps. And to fill the blank space on the workbench, I brought out the figure painting supplies. I have probably three dozen partially painted folks, many of which just need hair, hats or shoes to complete. I really like painting figures and I need a lot of them on the layout. Over the years I have hand-painted (duh!) around 700 mostly Preiser figures with a handful of recently purchased Chinese ones. I have also started using pre-painted ones from Woodland Scenics, Walther's, Noch and Preiser as well, and I have a population on the layout of over 900. But there are many gaps still.
So my current project list includes many small projects in different places on the layout in case I get bored in one place or another. Then I can always run trains. Gotta "blow the carbon out" of those engines.
Let's take a retrospective look at another Bar Mills laser-cut wood kit that I did a few years ago. This kit is called "Four Fingered Tony's"

Some details came with the kit, many others as well as the figures came from my workbench.

Tom O -
How can the weather guessers be so far off?
The weather people here have been so far off all year long that they now have less credibility than Dr. Fauci!
Glad to read that you're feeling better. Masks here are still pretty much absent. I am not sure how long it will be until nationwide chains start requiring them again...they're not at all popular in Texas. I went through Kroger and Home Depot Thursday and the percentage of masks was near zero. Last year during the height of the pandemic, it was near 100%. But I live in an area where vaccination percentage is very high, unlike the border towns down south with all of the immigrant issues.
I miss the contrails also since they shut down Carswell AFB in Ft Worth.
Garry - Too bad about the gremlins.
Chad - What I mainly trap here are opossums and raccoons that wreak havoc on the garden. Armadillos are also troublesome, but they are hard to trap as they only eat what they dig up, and don't go for bait. I caught that one by outsmarting it. I kinda knew where it spent the day, and I knew that it headed for the garden at night, so I took two 12' long 2" x 8" boards and formed a "V" shaped chute to direct it into the trap. It worked the first night. Mostly I catch them (juveniles) by using a shovel to shoo them into an empty 5 gal plastic paint bucket. I already know that their natural range can cover up to 5 miles, opossums also, so I take all of them to a wooded area about 8 miles away. Have any returned? I don't know...raccoons have not. For the most part, armadillos only stay for a few days before moving on. That big one was a hassle because she didn't move on. I caught four juveniles during the next two weeks.
Tom - I am really looking forward to your flat car photos.

Wow! I have really rambled on this morning and this no sugar A&W root beer doesn't have caffeine either! Maybe because I feel especially good this morning after 8 1/2 hours sleep last night, with only one bathroom break after the first five hours!
Today is Purple Heart Day, a commemorance that deserves more attention.
Everybody have a great day.

Good morning Crew from the humid rolling hills of So Central Wisconsin. 72f degrees now heading to 82 but 79% chance of rain starting at noon. No breeze, no sun, thick cloud cover and today I can again smell the smoke from out west.

Thanks everyone for the get better wishes on the sore throat that seems to have disappeared. Thanks on my pictures and the joke/memes/ whatever they are called nowadays.

We will walk 2 Farmers Markets today, still we are avoiding the big one around the Capital grounds in Madison. There are +300 vendors of locally sourced food products only, no craft stands. But, we are still leary of Covid, there are always roughly 10,000 walking around and the 2 smaller ones still have over 30 each food related vendors, again no crafts. They are reporting though that the Capital Farmers Market attendance is way up this Summer. The plan for us is to go back in September when the weather cools and the crowds are thinner at 8-9am unless there is a football game on Campus.

The insurance adjuster will look at the office roof for the tornado damage on Monday. Something called ”wind lift” has done its thing on the shingles. My Monday follow up doctor visit will get cancelled.

Troy, at least you aren’t going after the 10,000 steps myth. I have read that now they claim an intense 7000 steps is better then a slow 10,000 steps but 12,000 of either is very good. Intense is considered 1 mile in 20 minutes. I can tell you 2 miles at 3 miles an hour feels a lot more intense then walking the same 2 miles outside at the same speed. Outside just seems to relax me and I feel better out there and time flies.

I have started the research into the types of buildings I want in my City scape on the extension of the layout. When the build starts, my Proto freelance of Central Wisconsin will become totally freelance and my own creation. That worries me as picking an era of 2005 then 2015 has kept me focused. But, nothing officially done yet.

Enjoy your day
TomO

Edited the 8:33 posting at 8:54: No Farmers Market will be visited as the powers that be, the wife and sister, after returning from riding and brushing down the big boy horses say it’s too humid and they are heading to the pool. I yelled to them showers 1st

yesterday’s Front end Friday picture I posted on FB

What the heck is everyone doing today??? Saturday doldrums or something? It's been over five hours since Christian posted here and the same for the rest of the forum!
Me? I was looking out the north window of the train shed at my pond and found mom, dad & junior exploring the neighborhood!

These are the Black Vultures that nest in the loft of my barn.

Good Afternoon all! Yeah, another hot one. A low chance of rain today but higher tomorrow.
PB&J please with a vanilla egg cream.

Well the generator shed is completed. The folks that make these sheds have some pretty ingenious way of making the joints come together.
At this point in time, push comes to shove, I can put the generator in and run it protected from the weather. I need to add some vents and fans along with soundproofing. A little at a time, but in the end hopefully I will be able run the entire house and quietly. Take that ERCOT.

Heading for the showers and then maybe get some work in on Old Dominion.

STAY SAFE
LATER

Good morning Crew from the south deck in Wisconsin. 62f degrees heading to 81. It is blue skies and no tint of the smoke haze. The weather guy on TV before dinner last night said the smoke should be back tomorrow. The ladies are out on the horses and I have said I will join them tomorrow. Got up late this morning so still have the treadmill to do along with some swimming workouts.

We have been fairly busy the last 2 weeks with my sister staying with us. She has her best friend down in Morris, Illinois and we will drive her there I think next Monday. She will stay a week or so visiting other friends and then return to us. She has been a free spirit since last July when her house in Orland Park sold. Has spent 3 months with us, 3 months in Arizona, 5 months in Hawaii and 2 months in AirBnB’s in Silver Lake, Pasenda and Silver Lake, California. Her daughter lives now in Burbank, Ca. After 16 years teaching at NYU in New York. She would like to be near the daughter but the daughter has writing job for a movie that believe it is based in New York and has to film there and she has to be at the filming. Maybe for a year!

I started about 6 months or so to weather these, pulled them out last night to finish them up.

Open up a piece of old copper cable, or better get sone fine electronic cable with the correct plastic cover, yellow, then add a bit of plastic cut to size, paint, if you have sone red plastic tape cut fine and cross hair over plastic with a square in the middle first then cut the ‘frame’ write the last bit in, rough and ready but does the job….
sonething to look at so you get the ideas

very fine copper you need thicker, that bends and holds its shape

if push comes to shove I can cut some plastic and bend some wire to make it clearer, as you may consider it as clear as mud :0

Afternoon All,

Spent several hours doing yard work today with my son's help. By the time we were done I was very overheated and soaked in sweat. Needless to say I've been vegging since then. Tomorrow I'm heading to Dad's and will take him grocery shopping.

Garry- That's the way it always seems to go.

Christian- That would work well with a couple of small business's.

Jaz- Very nice photo.

Willie- Great detailing.

TomO- Nice photo.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Good afternoon. I had to work this morning, which dragged into this afternoon due to local torrential downpours. I then hit the "local" hobby shop, picked up a couple of antique N scale items, and returned home.
I'm not really sure what I'm going to do with a brass Sunset PRR trainmasher or a pair of Ak-Sar-Ben freight sharks, but I have 'em...

Willie, could tell me (us) how many houses do you have on your big layout ? it seems that you have a very big amount of houses. 500, 1000 or more ? Thanks.
Houses, less than 30. Do you really mean structures? Then I have over 300 including houses, churches, apartments, barns, small businesses, RR structures and large rail-served businesses. Since I model a flat grain growing area, I have 7 grain elevators with plans for one more. There are over 70 rail-served businesses so far. The biggest grain elevator can service 16 grain hoppers. The Ethanol refinery which is not yet built can also service 16 tankers with ease on the loading tracks that are already laid out. My favorite aspects of the hobby are switching and structure building. My least favorite are soldering and tree-making.

You can cheat on the tree making, shrubs or shrub seed heads can make trees save a lot of modelling, I agree with the soldering I burnt myself twice before I decided to leave it to the experienced other half, hair spray can be enough to get the green to stick, or model winter bare trunks

these are seed heads off spirea japonica, I painted white then penned the black lines so similar to birch trees

I was up late into the morning doing ballast and scenery work at my club. Today I went shopping for tools and supplies for myself. After that I've been working on my FreeMo module for once.

My track is cut to size and now spraypainted dark brown. I spread Woodland Scenics Foam Putty over the pink foam and edges to smooth them out for scenery later. I need to now cut my trestle bents and paint them also. Maybe with luck I can get the track glued down tomorrow..
