Here we go again.............

Gettin anxious to get back to club and see how my scenery work has set up. The homemade static grass tool we found works pretty well, but I'm certainly new to it. About half of the tufts and strips I tried making turned out pretty good. I did some darker tufts today, so we'll see how those look when dried. I can tell I'll have fun mixing and blending the different colors for different effects.

Here's a photo for your time. This little Mike has really come to be a staple of my collection, pretty funny considering I wasn't originally interested in it. He's an HO scale BLI model, with the original decoder replaced with an Econami steam decoder, complete with a keep-alive. Very good runner, but not the strongest puller I have.

Morning all,

Time for a large cup this morning and toss in a stack of the blueberry pancakes with a side of bacon. Thanks Flo...

Few a month or two, and always when I can't take a picture, I've been seeing some odd canvas covered gondolas. Canvas cover rolls off to one side similar to a what you might see on a grain or gravel trailer, and an odd what looks to be a base dump out to either side. I finally found one pictured. It is a rotary coal gondola.

Although the ones I've seen have the covers, this was a new to me rail car. I know I live a sheltered life... 😄

Patrik, I think those are called protein cars. They are retired coal gons that haul cattle feed or something similar.

Good Morning All,

Mom peacefully passed away this past weekend but all her children and adult grandchildren were able to say their final goodbyes.

Now the focus is on Dad (88) who is in physical and mental decline. I'm making sure that all his affairs are in order for when his time comes.

I wanted to do some yard work today but it's raining and it's supposed to all day.

I hope everyone has a good day.

My condolences to you and your family.

Good morning Crew from the south deck in Wisconsin. 62f degrees heading to 81. It is blue skies and no tint of the smoke haze. The weather guy on TV before dinner last night said the smoke should be back tomorrow. The ladies are out on the horses and I have said I will join them tomorrow. Got up late this morning so still have the treadmill to do along with some swimming workouts.

We have been fairly busy the last 2 weeks with my sister staying with us. She has her best friend down in Morris, Illinois and we will drive her there I think next Monday. She will stay a week or so visiting other friends and then return to us. She has been a free spirit since last July when her house in Orland Park sold. Has spent 3 months with us, 3 months in Arizona, 5 months in Hawaii and 2 months in AirBnB’s in Silver Lake, Pasenda and Silver Lake, California. Her daughter lives now in Burbank, Ca. After 16 years teaching at NYU in New York. She would like to be near the daughter but the daughter has writing job for a movie that believe it is based in New York and has to film there and she has to be at the filming. Maybe for a year!

I started about 6 months or so to weather these, pulled them out last night to finish them up.

Good Morning Everyone. Mostly cloudy and 68°! Yes, 68° on August 3!😲 And the high yesterday only reached 88°. This is fall weather a bit early, but it won't last long. We'll be back to mid-90's by the weekend. The smokey haze has returned here. I hope that the weekend rain did some good on the wildfires.

RANT - It is a real shame that unvaccinated people with Covid are filling emergency and ICU units right now. Their thoughtlessness is making it real difficult for medical personnel to deal with everyday emergencies and accident victims. While medical staff should be putting a real guilt trip on these people, they probably are not. An acquaintance of mine in a car accident was driven past four hospitals over the weekend before they got to one with room. Fortunately he was treated and released later. RANT OVER

Those blueberry pancakes and bacon that Patrick is having looks real good this morning Flo. Have Mel make some for me please.

Thanks for the likes and comments for yesterday's picture post; Rick, Karl, Sherrel, Tom O, Guy, Christian, Chad Patrick, Hughie, Garry, Steve, Tom.

I have temporarily run out of time. I typed all of my comments below already and I just came back to do the train shed update, but I have an unexpected task right now. Hopefully I will be back in a bit with the update.

Troy -
For the Carnitas, do you microwave the smoked meat, or do the full cook in lard?
What I meant was that I cut the pork butt in half and use half for carnitas, and smoke the other half for pulled pork. I imagine that carnitas could be made from the pulled pork by adding some toasted cumin seed (or cumin powder), garlic, oregano, a dash of water and some chopped chile peppers and microwaving it until just hot.
For true carnitas, I cube up the pork butt or shoulder (about 4 lb) into 1/2" cubes, put it in a Ziploc bag with 3 tbls toasted cumin seed, 3 tbls oregano, 5 cloves minced garlic, 3 diced chiles, salt & pepper to taste; and let it dry marinate overnight in the fridge. The next day I sear it in a skillet (several smaller batches) and then it goes into the slow cooker on low for about seven hours, with 1/4 cup of milk added about halfway through. The searing essentially is equivalent to the ring from smoking it. I found that toasting the cumin seed works best, just put them in a small skillet on low heat for about 5 minutes. If they're smoking, then that's too long. Powder can be used, but only about 2/3 as much. Note that this is far different than typical recipes found by Google.
Tom O - I have seen those wood chippers working close up when the power company contractor was clearing branches on our road. Powerful machines! They demonstrated it chewing up an 8" login under 2 seconds. They gave me the rest of the logs.
Steve J - VBS??? Vacation Bible School???
Your picture and statement #1 confuse me.
Guy - Get well soon.

Everybody have a great day.

Here we go again.............

I always thought Eric when he sold stuff on EBay said it was him. Lots of inferences that it is him. His units usually sell in this range but this one has no working lights and is DC not DCC. 19 bids.

I made the mistake of looking at the cobweb under my writing desk and saying "I should clean down here (basement).

This is going to take all day. I'm still working on the desk and hobby area. My pile of unpainted-gaming shame is way too big...
Sympathies, a lot of people hope for a 20/80 rule 20 percent effort 80 percent reward, we inflict so much work on us we work on the 5/95 percent rule, frankly it is like paddling in the middle of the at,antic, we don’t need to either, the half half has a good job, but we are at the point where we want to try things, do things, see what works for us, some skills we have learnt we are happy we learnt but unlikely to use much, making wine and cider, success but we are not really drinkers, now apple cider vinegar I use in vast quantities and have the apple trees.
