It's pronounced the same in German...
Not really, but I see where you’re coming from.

Now, here is an interesting one. Öl is German for oil. Where ö is a rounded o — say “ay” and make your lips for an O.

Anyway, here is a false cognate that trips me up all the time. Öl in Swedish is beer. Every time I read it I have to dig that out of my brain to remember they’re not drinking oil. Lots of Swedish words I can guess at because they’re basically Germanic words with cognates in German. Just remember which sound shifts have happened (constants and vowels) and you can get a good guess

German: Bezahlen. Swedish: Betala. To pay.

German: Versuchen. Swedish: Försöka. To try.

German: Öl. Oil. Swedish: Öl. Beer. Whoops.

There are almost of other examples where I can guess correctly but then more where I get caught.

Afternoon to all..........

I've been busy with computer stuff lately.

I have a desktop computer that needs to have a partition moved on the hard drive so I can gain more space for the Windows 10 operating system. The computer is telling me now it cannot download upgrades due to lack of space.
I'll take that one to the shop in Wichita Falls to do as I neither have the time or patience to perform this task.
I have one other desk top computer that works fine running Windows 10.
I'm going to pay the $34 fee to Microsoft to keep receiving security updates for the two above mentioned computers so they should be good for another year after this coming October running Windows 10.

I have a new HP laptop with Windows 11 Pro that I purchased about six months ago and finally got it out to set it up. After about 3 1/2 hours, it seems to be running just fine. However due to the privacy invasive nature of Win 11, I will be using this laptop to rum JMRI, Loksound Decoder Loader and a PR3 sound loader only. I spent about 1 1/2 hours downloading everything to get JMRI up and running along with the other two programs yesterday.

That brings me to the other HP Pavilion laptop computer I purchased at least 15 years ago. It had Windows 7 loaded on it at purchase. It is a "mid-use" computer good for personal use or a small business. With an Intel core I3, Celeron processor it was not exactly a powerhouse. I purchased this laptop to take on trips mainly to be able to keep up with my e-mails and e-bay. I removed the old mechanical hard drive and replaced it with a solid state unit and up-graded to Windows 10 many moons ago. It was an OK computer but I didn't use it that much. That computer was relegated to pretty much doing JMRI/Loksound programming. This laptop has never really seen a lot of use and still looks like new and operates well.
With all of that being said, I realized this laptop was going to be boat anchor after October of this year as Windows 11 won't even work on this unit. So I did some research on Linux operating systems and elected to load Zorin 17 Pro, OS on this laptop. WOW.....what a change. Zorin emulates Windows 10 and is pretty darn neat. This laptop now works as fast, if not faster than my desktops. My 15 year old laptop far exceeded the hardware requirements for Linux and I now have a nice laptop that I can use without Microsoft tracking every move I make. The privacy thing was a motivating force in going to Linux. I am well pleased and glad I took this route.

Just working on computers and doing everyday living things, I have not been in my train room for 5 days. And I have a drafting project to start tomorrow that an old customer has asked me to do.

Otherwise, I have 3 vehicles that need an "earl " change. My "peek-up" may need a new "batree" soon as the one in it is 6 years old.
I'll probably have to git out my "war plars" to fix that batree.

I heard a guy at a train show several years ago explaining to a younger person with him that he wanted one of those "Boardway Limited" locomotives with the "Pagaron 3s" sound system. Well ok then.

Have a great evening..................John

John, I can remember the first time my father saw a Kawasaki motorcycle. He read it as Kowalski and thought they were imported from Poland.
Gee, I miss the old man.

I think the finals will be Vegas and Tampa. I would love to say the Leafs can do it but they have to get out of the 1st round and I think the Senators take them to 7 where anything can happen. If the Leafs win in 6 or less the 1st round then I’d say Vegas and Toronto but the Leafs have blown my mind too many times
It’s tough to be a Leaf fan… I’ve seen them fold too many times over the years…
They say you have to have faith…but neh…

Good morning! It's 63°F with rain later in Tipton. 🌧️

Good morning, damn near afternoon gang!

Didn't sleep to well last night, too much Doctor stuff going on. CT scan results are in, they detected aneurysm that needs treatment asap, the cardiologist wants to do some more tests next Monday ahead of a cardiac cath and stents(?) on May 6th, Meeting the neurosurgeon Friday of next week. Oh 💩 I'm falling apart! Well at least in my darkest fears I am. Sharon is the opposite, she says I'm gonna be just fine, I just need a tune up and maybe a fresh set of plugs! I'll go with it, after all, what choice do I have??

Tomorrow is a mental health day. I'll take the truck in the morning for its emissions test, then Bass Pro Shop to pick up some ear protection, then off to the gun range to break in the new 9mm and the new rifle. That should be fun.

See if they can do a reset to the last known good configuration?

Good morning gang!

50° and overcast with the high of 72 expected. Shower is expected later in the afternoon to evening and tomorrow looks pretty much like a washout day.

Me all today is a mental health day. I do have to get the trunks emission test done. Then off to Bass Pro shops for some hearing presentation ammo and targets. Gun range to blow off some steam.

Better get moving soon so that I have time to play in the basement later.

Well howdy there internet peeps and those getting their Earl changed today or last night

It's Troy again

Well, MIL's cardiac inversion might have worked.

When the girls got back to the recovery room, MIL was still groggy, but the doc was watching the heart monitor... at first he said "It didn't work".... then more watching.... "Ah... that's better"

She was doing much better when they discharged her. My wife asked her how it felt when they shocked her heart?

"it was a BLAST!"

And she didn't mean it like a kid getting off a roller coaster.

The woman has a very high pain tolerance, so they asked if she'd do it again - get the cardiac shock (remember, she has an implanted defib/pacemaker).... she paused, and said Yes... if I feel up to it.

None of the docs got their crystal balls out to say how long she'll be around, but the tone of discussions are more like I heard when my mother was in her last two years. So we're into the phase of her life where it's going to be quality over quantity.

Wife called me for a four pm pick up - I had the car after all - and she wanted a big meal since she and her sisters hadn't eaten since breakfast.

Off we went to the local Gooey Pizza place. They do a deep dish, but we think the hand-tossed is plenty big. Of course, we got the garlic knots for an appetizer:

Then the gooey pizza arrived...

Since I did the running around yesterday, I didn't get my new table saw set up until in the afternoon. I turned it on to make sure it spun. Maybe today I'll finish the bullnose extension on the upper deck.
