Well howdy there retired internet peeps who are still working hard,

It's troy again.

Had a busy day. So I'm patio sitting. Finished up the work day by getting the sun-shade installed over the patio.

Patio sitting with a cold beverage has commenced. Birds are chirping. I even hung the yellowjacket trap. I hate those little arseholes. Always chasing the hummingbirds away from their feeder. I should put up the hummybird feeder, but I'll wait a week and see if I catch any little yellow arseholes.

My earlier project was a piece of plastic

We have a no-window AC rule in our condos, but our upstairs gets HOT in the non winter months. Already had the attic insulation refreshed with another 10in blown in a few years ago, along with new windows about then as well. Because we have crank-out windows, doing window AC is out. The HOA doesn't allow anything to extend past the window frame. And Mini-splits are right out. We're in a middle unit, so running power and tubing for a new AC blower from the patio to the second floor is what the HOA requires... and that's a good 10 grand or so. They don't make it as easy as it sounds.

But, I found some 1/8th in sheet styrene at the local big box, and trimmed it down today. Cut a hole, added the mounting plate and some bracing. Fits snug on the inside. Nothing extends beyond the inside of the window frame where the screen sits. I can close the window, then open it at night when we want to cool the upstairs down.

Hope it works out. I have never found that a HOA is for the residents comfort or ease of making things better for the homeowner.

We ditched Comcast several years ago in favor of streaming.
We did the same and have saved a small fortune!

I follow the Orioles on MLB.com and the radio, both free!

The free MLB on T-Mobile was a great deal
I love that and I can see the condesed Orioles and Nationals games the next day. I love baseball and I will watch any game if I'm awake!

I retired at 60, with 42 years of Railroad service. Full Benefits, and a management pension, mainly from the Penn Central. This was right in the middle of the 2008 - 2011 financial panic. I had no plan, or I would have stayed a few more years, I just wanted out. Working for the railroad, any railroad is a grind, and I had had enough. From experience, a plan helps.
Agreed. 39 Years with PC and Amtrak at 60 1/2.

For those of you against salting meat or steaks in particular.

Read, Salt, Fat, Acid Heat...

She's got a shorter form of it on Netflix

Salt is a tenderizer.
1. Use kosher salt. It's a flake, not a crystal. The flakes break up and get absorbed by the meat better and faster.
2. The moisture that comes out, stays on the surface...
3. it gets mostly reabsorbed as the salt breaks down the cells of the meat - that's why many restaurants salt their meat the night before, then fridge it (called "Dry Brining") Other than the normal red juices that come out as meat is thawed or even sitting (not blood, but that moisture in the cells of the meat), you'll see about the same amount of "leakage" if you dry brine, or just thaw.

If you are on low sodium, use lime juice, instead of salt, but let it marinate for an hour to work into the structure of the meat.

I just read the ingredients on my spice bottle of meat tenderizer: Top ingredient is .... salt.

That's where Hellmanns and Kraft belong, in the sink...Dukes is best!
Actually, Kewpie is where it's at. Kewpie makes the best Mayo, hands down. Hellmans / Best Foods (depending on where you live) is just ho hum. Kewpie all the way. Especially if you find the imported version, though their USA version is better now.

Good morning, 38f and sunny in Sandstone mn.

Boris and all, thanks for the warm welcome!

It is day 3 of my first full week of retirement, wifey feels a bit bossey, we both have adjustments to make. The biggest being accepting the new title "retired".

Honestly, it feels pretty good. Will be painting backdrop #4 today, that is really going to dress up the train shed.

More later, Dave LASM
Here's my take on retirement:
Every day is a Saturday or Sunday and you get all the holidays off. Retired in 2014 but I still get up
every day at 6:00 am.

Okay, I gotta give you grief about that typo...

Are you gonna try to walk a whole foot tomorrow?

Well

"

is also unofficially "seconds" so he was able to walk 10 seconds. I know my Apple Watch uses ' for minutes and " for seconds when showing a one mile pace.

Marinade was a TBS of lime juice, about triple that of olive oil 1/2 tsp of seasoned salt, crushed red pepper flakes, garlic powder, paprika, & a dash of cayenne pepper. They were yum.

Although next time, I'll use a real skillet intead of the half-griddle for the veggies. I lost too many over the side or down the hole trying to flip them.
