Later I will give wifey lawn trimming and mowing instructions (her request).
You are blessed to have an Angel.

Saint Joseph's Hospital is fantastic! I spent weeks there. They saved my life and treated me like a king doing so. I'm hoping you're in and out. No matter how good the hospital is, nobody wants to be there.

The only thing that concerns me is you! Be good, I'd tell your Angel to restrain you, but you would work like a coyote to get free. It's okay to let others do things sometimes, be good!
I do believe that more than one of us, has been wondering what Troy has been smoking all these years.😉😀
I'm not saying anything about that.

After the chicken breasts yesterday
I was hoping for a picture and more info. I have had remarkable success smoking bone-in chicken breast. Not so much with boneless, they often end up too dry.

Funny how as we get older, that phrase takes on a different meaning.
I get lucky every day, I wake up! 🤪

A Blessed Good Friday to Everyone!

Good morning from a gloomy, windy, wet and stormy So. Central Wisconsin. At 4:30 I got an email from the self proclaimed group leader of the walking group. Basically it read, be safe today. While we walk in wind and rain we do not walk in thunder or lightning. Walk at home this morning. At 5:50 I was thinking heck I can walk it’s just drizzling. At 6 I basically became a jogger and I hate to run. By time I was in the garage I felt like a drowned rat. As the garage door was closing the largest hail I’ve seen was coming down. 40 minutes later it seems the storm has moved on but I can still hear the thunder. Our next weather event per the radar should be around 11am this morning.

When I had my angioplasty 3 weeks ago yesterday I had already agreed that if it was something beyond a stent they were going to wheel me right into the operating room. Thankfully nothing was needed. It is amazing how each healthcare group works.

I have a cardio appointment at 8:40 this morning. All the lab results from my Tuesday afternoon and evening trip to the clinic popped up on the portal yesterday. This morning they will be broken down into an understandable English translation, I hope. I usually can read the gobby gook by reading the results on the IPadPro and then using the iPhone to translate the words I don’t understand. There were so many unknown words last night I figured I’ll wait for the meeting

I had a friend stop in last night and we were in the layout room basically talking as we ran a train through the papermill. He accepted an offer on his house yesterday and is a widower now at 62. Before his wife passed in 2023 they purchased 10 acres from us and now he wants to build on it. He asked me to be the project manager on his new build that his contractor can start in late June. He’s going to travel while it’s being built. He just ordered a travel van and will travel as he and the wife were planning. Not totally unexpected as we had talked years ago about his new house. His wife was part of the group of horse owners that Terry boarded horses for when she was doing that. He always hated to ride but like me did! He prefers the high horse power of a gas powered engine. Now the stables designed for 8 horses he wants redesigned as his train room. He is switching to 0 scale. He’s aware of my health issues but after talking with Terry before bed she’s not opposed to the idea. It wouldn’t be that much more work than what I’m doing for the daughter and son in law and it’s the same contractor. The contractor unknowing that my friend and I knew each other my friend said the contractor recommended me. Honestly I didn’t know residential project managers were a real thing. Turns out there are quite a few in this part of Wisconsin per the contractor making good livings. I want to see what the doctor says this morning before I give my answer. Yes if I’m ok.

That next storm scheduled for 11am seems to have arrived at 7:33. The hail, lightning, thunder and very heavy rain just started up again.

Be well

Good mornin' crew from a frosty Cheyenne. Its 23, wind chill 9, and light snow. About an inch on the ground and another inch or two expected later today and tonight. Winds are from the north @ 10. High this afternoon 29, low tonight 19 with light flurries continuing into tomorrow. Not too bad in our little southeastern corner but pretty rough going west and north.
Winter in Wyoming, folks.. it ain't over 'til its over...
Not much on the agenda for today. Good Friday and Easter weekend - maybe dinner Sunday. I think I saw one of those big ol' Smithfield ham steaks in the fridge. SIL has martial arts exhibition Saturday. May get him to drop me off @ MRR club for a while. If not, got plenty of w-i-p stuff to keep busy on here.
Glad everyone's tickers are still ticking, even if they do get a little rough every now and then... Timex had it right.
Layouts are looking good! Nice work, y'all.
Y'all have a good weekend and take care.

Good Morning All. A Good Friday Morning at that. Cloudy here and 69°, heading into the mid-80's later. Forecasters are still giving us an 83% chance of heavy thunderstorms tomorrow and lasting until just before noon on Sunday. Highs around 70° over the weekend and then Spring returns for a couple of days before the next round of T-storms hits on Wednesday.

A much larger crowd than usual at the grocery store yesterday, but less than the usual number of folks using the ride-on carts, so navigation wasn't as bad. No line at the manned checkout line, so that was seamless. Store seemed better stocked than usual, at least for the stuff that I buy. Gasoline in town tended to be $2.65/gal everywhere, including the name brand places. Followed up with the haircut that I had to skip last week, no line there either. Spent most of the afternoon in the kitchen doing chores and making a delicious chicken salad for supper. Later I started installing tomato cages in the garden.
Back to the mower today for what should be a short round on the north side around the train shed and the still empty pond. Sadly, there are still downed tree branches in parts of that area which I am still mowing around. Rabbits and field rats have taken up residence there.

Once again, not a lot of time for layout activity out in the train shed yesterday. I did however, make some miniature square-tab shingles to provide the roofers something to do while on that roof.

Then I hand painted a pickup truck with dull coat before I attempt to weather it, for them to use as a work truck.

Joe - Happy Birthday to your wife.
Troy - I agree with Terry that the upper level should be done first. While I didn't need to stand on any part of the layout, body parts did brush on some of the lower level stuff. Fortunately no disasters.

Everyone have a great Friday and a Happy Easter weekend if I don't see you in the next couple of days.

I really have empathy for you guys and your medical issues. I can't relate because I have been blessed so far with nothing other than 2 squamous cell cancers removed about 6 years ago. I do deal with some lower back issues, from wrestling and powerlifting in my youth, and the start of genetic kyphosis.

My wife has had 3 life threatening hospitalizations in the last 5 years, but has pulled through just fine. Prior to that she had both knee joints replaced and has completely recovered.

My 92 year old mom still drives to the gym 4 days/wk and can still hold a 3 minute plank. She's only been to the ER twice in the last 20 years. Once for RSV and once for a prescription drug interaction. She is a 40 year survivor of breast cancer and 30 year survivor of melanoma. When her father passed at 102 there was no sign of prostate cancer.

My father fell off a ladder at 81 and passed 48 hours later. He had been a 3 pack/day smoker (quit when he retired) and for the last 20 years of his life had a quad bypass, bladder cancer, pancreatic cancer, diabetes, etc.

I guess my point is I feel exceptionally fortunate/blessed, at this point in my 65 years, that my lifestyle and genetics have kept me healthy. I know I could fall of a ladder, get in a car accident, or get stung by a bee. When its my time its my time. My goal is to outlive my mom. The family joke is that she is going to out live all of us.

I wish all of you good health and a happy life.

Louis:

My grill and your's are very different. Not having used a kettle, I'd suggest two things for the boneless skinless:

1. A Water Pan in near the chicken
2. Put the chicken in a foil pan, add some chicken broth to it. This may be enough, and you can skip the water pan. You can also add a pad of butter atop each breast while you smoke them (chicken breast.... we don't need to know about your bedroom preferences)... ;)

As for the layout, yeah... top level sounds like the better one to start on. So I made a run to get more 1inch foam board. Gotta make it fit in the Toyota Camry, and the best value is to get a 4x8ft sheet. Hmmmm.... So I took the 4ft T-square and a snap knife with me. It's WINDY today, but I managed to keep all of my fingers intact, and get it in the car. 2ft wide is the best that can fit.

And I fired up the grill again...

Good Morning Y'all. Waiting for a call from the Hospital for my Monday reporting time. Hernia repair is pretty routine as things go, but my anxiety level is up there. NHL Playoffs start on Saturday, Looks like the first round will be exclusively on Cable, so that leaves me out. If it was on the streaming channel, the Jersey team would be blacked out, so it's a non starter.

Last. Night the temp dived back down from at least upper 40s yesterday but maybe low 50s. Second half of day had a bunch of sun. I went to take the trash cans down to the street for today’s pickup and it was snowing. Those small ball type snow pellets that look like you old bean bag chair filling.

This morning I woke up to this. Watch said 33F and my sensor said 34F. During the night the watch said as low as 29F. It looks 2-3” in the places it stuck. I have t been out yet but I’m going out to walk before I take my mom to get her car at the shop.

In other news gasoline jumped out of the 2.89-3.09 band it’s been in for months (slipping back and forth). It jumped to 3.19 fell down to 3.09 and is now up to 3.29. It may even have been higher a day or two. This is the main station price you see everywhere. Some places like Walmart are a little cheaper.

Morning all,

Got home late for us last night and had all 4 grandkids here overnight. They are currently baking goodies for Sunday lunch and will be coloring Easter eggs shortly.

If you have Prime video, watch the Paul Riser special. Couple of cuss words, but other wise pretty funny. Hits aging to the point.

Rethinking the knee replacement as it's causing me issues with replaced knee.

Good morning, all! While the sun is out, it isn't very bright. Temps will be in the high 80"s. Like Willie, we made the grocery trek yesterday. Some items were up, but overall, not too bad. Gasoline was $2.59.9

Karl - good luck, a little prayer said.
Willie - The shingles look good and certainly complete the scene
Len - I'm not going to tell you that it's 78 in Nacogdoches.
Chad - At least you don't need to shovel the driveway.

STAY SAFE

I'm glad to hear that because a gentleman never tells. Even an old street rat like me can have values.

Do I understand you correctly? (You have had one replaced, and need the other replaced, but the replaced knee/leg is causing you problems?).

If that's the case, we share the dilemma. Had my left knee joint replaced in 2021.My right knee has been bone on bone, and really should be replaced. But: my left leg including the knee are causing me worsening problems....most recently diagnosed as Neuropathy due to Nerve Damage.

I'm very reluctant to risk the same from replacing the other knee joint....

Really don't know what to do, so for now the answer is nothing. But: I'm not getting any younger either.

Since everyone is posting DELICIOUS :pfood I thought I would post my typical lunch.

I threw a quick stir fry together: Asparagus out of the garden, brown Beech mushrooms, leftover chicken I smoked last night, some fresh ginger, a little Mirin, and a little sweet soy sauce.

That is Excellent

but it’s Friday in Wisconsin. So that means fish fry. Terry will have blue gills. I will decide at the table but my choices are cod or walleye as I don’t eat blue gills. Unfortunately there is no shrimp on the Friday menu where we are going.

I remember when we lived in upstate NY eating fried blue gill sandwiches. Great memories.

The only time I had the pleasure of enjoying walleye was when I was visiting the Vollrath plant in Sheboygan.
