Actually we don't. The bullet ricocheted off the table part way down. I suspect a proper 50 BMG shot perfectly parallel with the table would go through all the peeps without a second thought. I'm not convinced that the peeps would deflect it enough. I could be wrong of course. Modern armor is made with layers including things like special foams and fibers and stuff to cause deflection so that lower layers don't get hit straight on.

I'd try this if I had the money for the peeps and a place to do it and a camera that could record it... But I am not sure I could get a perfectly parallel shot either.
I don't want to stop you from a good excuse to break out the .50cal...

But, we learned from watching "Mythbusters" that water is terrible for high speed projectiles. (they had several episodes on this, but the one in the swimming pool was interesting when they fired the .50cal.

I suspect the creamy center of the marshmallow peeps is pretty close to a fluid and going to have some effect of changing the trajetory. The chocolate bunny shot looked like the round stayed fairly well stabilized until the fourth rabbit. By then it was off course, but not bouncing off the table.

The colored eggs (paintball grenades) had a similar problem as the peeps: round deflect down into the table. IF (big if) they didn't change the firing platform between the shots, I'd propose that the peeps had a similar, but less pronounced effect due to being close to a fluid.

Sounds like we need to get some peeps and get out to the range. I can toss $5 ... heck $10 into the peeps pool. Who else is in? Who's got the .50 cal and ammo?

I have had to dispatch a skunk or two on my property but never any "Peeps".

I received a couple of P2k, CB & Q hopper cars today. The seller wrapped these two cars together with one wrapping of brown paper, added a bit of tape and off they went. They arrived in a plastic bag furnished by the USPS to keep all things together. Needless to say, both arrived crushed with the sides and ends pushed in. Well, you just can't fix stupid.

Feeling kinda like crap today so don't expect to get much accomplished. Maybe a burst of energy will occur later. 😵‍💫😵‍💫

Take care....John

I have access to the appropriate firearm and ammo. But we need a high speed camera and a place to do it and a way to ensure we're not off a little on the aim. You need to be far enough away so that the blast also doesn't have any effect. A 50 puts out a mighty blast, even with a good muzzle blast suppression/re-routing system... (Muzzle brake that redirects the blast to counter recoil)

I don't doubt that peeps would behave as some sort of liquid and could cause deflection a little. But because the peeps are freestanding and not supported except by each other you'll have less effect on it, I believe, then shooting into a container full of liquid constrained by the container...

You'd need enough peeps to reproduce it enough times as well to rule out one-off weirdness.

In other news, the market was up again today. The indices were all up around 0.78-0.79% except Nasdaq which is 0.64% and Russell 2000 which was up a little over 1%. Our self directed 401K was up 1.10% and our self directed HSA was up 0.58%

I don't worry day to day but find it interesting. I actually have a few hundred $ in the HSA account to invest but didn't get to it today. I'm kind of wondering when the volatility will calm down. I expect we'll have more down days coming up. Not trying to time the market for the very best result but would like to get8in at some point in a dip with this money...

Played golf at 3pm today and looked at the golf pool results. At first they had me winning it but then realized they made an addiction mistake. The person who won had Mcilroy, Scheffer and Reed beat out my Mcilroy, Scheffer and Dechambeau by 2 points. Reed was the one who aced the hole from 150 yards out that was the differents. It was 4 days of high excitement for me. Here's my line on the results board.

Boris I had 3 different basal skin cancer growths removed in the pass 10 years or so. So, when I saw another one coming on, I had my dermatologist take a look during my annual full body checkup. He removed it and sent it out for testing. It came back negative, and I thought that was good but then I got letter from railroad Medicare that they were not paying because it was not cancer. I had to pay the $750.00 charge for the removal. They said it was cosmetic and didn't approve the procedure. I see a lot of operations going on in the country that to me seem to be cosmetic but get paid. I paid it but that's why I use the Fluorouracil cream the doctor gave me to take care of any bumps before they become a problem.

I guess the practical solution does not conform with medicare's thinking. But with medicare it's the interpretation of the individual caseworker.
It becomes a roll of the dice. Add to that, improper coding from the practitioner's billing provider...frequently, depending on the size of the practice, a work from home mom. I'm guessing that Medicare regards a full body checkup as Preventative, so anything done during one may be considered preventative...cosmetic is a stretch, especially with someone who earned his living out doors. What I have been doing lately, is obtaining a referral with diagnosis from my Primary before I see a specialist of any kind. I also take the time to call medicare before I go and ask them if it is a covered procedure. Not perfect, but it helps on appeal. Key phrase is "Medical Necessity". All medicare claims, both social security and railroad are processed by outside contractors, and not GS Employees. Their contracts with Medicare may include incentives to hold costs down. Maybe you can persuade someone in your Congressman's office to make an official inquiry on your behalf. Worth a phone call.

One final thought. Medicare does not pre approve any procedure. They make the determination after the fact, so it is frequently a surprise to the receiver when medicare denies the claim. The practitioner, is theoretically required to inform you if a procedure "might" not be covered by Medicare. If they do, and You agree to have it done regardless, then you "eat" the cost. If the Practitioner did not caution you or get you to sign a Medicare denial form, then the practitioner cannot bill you. Watch what you sign.

Good evening gang!

Went to the Dr today about my sudden shortness of breath and dizzy spells. Regular Doc ran a bunch of tests, Vampires took blood samples and then an EKG. Doc said something in my EKG was different from last time, so they forwarded it to my cardiologist. Cardio cant see me til Thursday and Doc also scheduled a Ct scan for me next week.
The good news is my blood pressure was 130/70 and blood ox was good.

Spent the rest of the day chillin with the dogs. Beautiful day on the back deck.

Flo, Can I get a root beer float as a nightcap?
