I don’t understand complaints about Ruth Chris or Fleming Steakhouses. You should know before you get there you’ll be paying way too much.
Ruth Chris Steaks are worth their cost...at least they were the last time I was there. The issue about pricing concerns their side dishes...I mean all baked potatoes are pretty much the same...I agree, that if you want something less extravagant, don't go to Ruth Chris.

Texas Roadhouse...well the steaks are good, the price is reasonable, and the atmosphere is Honky Tonk. Same with Logan's Roadhouse. Longhorn, meh. Longhorn won't take reservations, but accepts "call aheads" ??????

Around here, the chains don't do as well. Arooga's a Sports Bar themed place is very popular in New Brunswick, but failed here...The demographic was never right, and now it's getting worse. And the unwritten rule about Glat Kosher establishments is "Goys aren't welcomed". Closer to the Ocean, there are some very good year round restaurants.

Good mornin' crew. Under clear shies, it's 40 with plenty of sunshine here in Cheyenne this AM Winds are NW @ 12 gusting to 27. Looking for a high of 53 this afternoon and a low tonight of 27. No precipitation in the forecast. Warming trend will bring daytime temps in the high 60s and low 70s later in the week with lots of sunshine.

Quiet day yesterday, except for NJ(ret) coughing and sneezing all day. Allergies... The air quality is quite good here compared to East Texas. Humidity is low and, when clear, the sky is very blue. Problem is pollen. Grass and weed pollen plus the very dry climate is not very kind to NJ(ret).

Restaurants: We have all the chains in Cheyenne. Texas Roadhouse is good; Red Lobster not so much. Olive Garden OK. The real stars here though are the small, Mom & Pop, locally owned restaurants. American, burger and breakfast diners, Mexican, Cajun, Asian, Italian, Mediterranean, French, etc. Not to mention several high quality (high $$$) steak & chop houses. Bon appetit!

Might get out to the train shed for a bit if it warms up. Getting a Trainworld order together. About time to order some flex track and turnouts and another structure for the Reliable Foundry & Machine complex.

Y'all have a good day and take care.

well howdy there internet peeps and those talking steak.

Wife headed to the hospital to break her mother out of the lock-up.

So my stead dinner is now this evening. Had some left over sausage and peppers for lunch. Need to do the trash circuit of the house, change the cat litter, and set the bin outside.

then I'll play with building some little toy soldiers. I keep hoping I'll get them painted and can start working on the train table again. We'll see. I'm in the mood to train, but I'm so close to hitting a decent stopping point on the toy soldiers I feel obliged to finish those and call it good enough.

I sometimes feel sad that a couple of my friends/acquaintances rely on SS for most of their living expenses. But on the other hand, I advised some over 20 years ago to prepare for their own future and they chose not to act. NO, NO, NO; Social Security is not an entitlement at all. I wish politicians would quit referring to it as such.
It's easy for Politicians to erroneously refer to SS as an Entitlement because they have their own plan. SS is an Annuity, paid for by private contributions of the worker(s), (and their employers), through a tax on wages, already taxed by Federal Income Tax. It's more like a contract, not an entitlement. And, to ad insult to Injury since around 1983 it is taxable up to 85% of the annual disbursement. Those with the lowest annual incomes are not taxed, but those with pensions or savings in addition to SS are the ones who are taxed.

Good morning, all! A rather cool morning, 55 degrees, but sunny. The severe weather predicted yesterday never showed up. I did run out and mow just in case. We did get one small rain shower, but nothing severe, no thunder.

The Conductress prefers Texas Roadhouse, while I prefer Longhorn's. We went the opening of Longhorn's some years ago. I ordered the chicken fried steak, my favorite. Server brought out our meals. There were 2 pretty good size cf steaks on my platter. I started on one, one of the tastiest I had, then some grizzle. Got chewy. Our server came by and asked how we were doing, I said it was very good but the first piece was very chewy. She left, shortly the manager came by and inquired about my meal. In the end he insisted I take a "doggie box" home with 2 pieces of cf steak home.
Trains - Work continues on the Mudd Creek structure. Still need to dull coat the roof and add details. It didn't come with a floor or base. I'm thinking I may add a base since the current plan is to put this in town.

STAY SAFE

I'm sure getting fresh seafood to Dead Lobster in Wyoming isn't as easy as the ones next to the Gulf or ocean.
Most, if not all the major chains get seafood that is flown or trucked in. Ma&Pa's sitting on a pier usually get the licensing to process fresh stuff. Restaurant licensing/code is already a can-o-worms, fresh stuff adds more layers to it. This might not be true in all cases though. IE we went into a seafood restaurant in Anchorage sitting right next to the water wanting 'Fresh Halibut'. Server told us the truck had not been in for this weeks delivery. In other words, it was still Alaskan Halibut, but went to the processor first.

Except no, it is legally an entitlement. Your Social security payments are a tax. That is all. There is no legal contract. It is neither an annuity, nor insurance, nor an investment. It is a tax payment and a parallel entitlement set up by Congress. An entitlement that can be changed by Congress (at their political peril). (Entitlement meaning something a person is entitled to because of a law).

(My comments above are merely a listing of facts and do not represent anything of my own thoughts or political beliefs).

We mostly have chains here in La Porte. I like a good cheeseburger and fries...Traditionally, bars and taverns have the best burgers. Bad thing is that smoking is allowed in bars here. The better bars have excellent exhaust fans

I was in the culinary world up until my 2nd year of marriage. Food Service has/had the 2nd highest divorce and alcoholic rate, of any industry, 2nd only to law enforcement. I got out of the kitchen and into the sales side to make sure my marriage wasn't a statistic.

I earned a culinary degree and BS in Hospitality Management, then worked under several Swiss and German chef's. The first executive chef position I held was at a private club in the middle of 1980's Silicon Valley. I was also a one man kitchen in a little Palo Alto French restaurant and had my 15 minutes of Bay Area culinary scene fame. 6 months later the restaurant closed during the recession.

I say all this because we rarely go out to eat anymore. I know how to prepare just about any cuisine with ease. I don't think my wife has cooked more than a dozen meals since we've been married. Cooking is a trade, like plumbing and surgery. You do it long enough and it becomes effortless. The only cuisine we really go out for is Japanese.

Ruth's Chris does have exceptional dry aged beef.....and you pay for it.

Good early evening from a very nice day in Wisconsin.

I deleted my email app and then reinstalled. Worked for about 1 hour. Deleted again and installed, rinse and repeat. It’s been working maybe 2 hours now. The coincidence the son and I have come up with is this all started the evening the daughter and family moved in Tuesday. So it has to be internal, we’ll figure it out.

The grandson’s soccer team won the morning game to advance to the championship game. He did not score this morning but got 4 in the 6-1 win in the championship.

Started working on the layout with plans to do some weathering this morning. I ended up working on my email issues and then watched some of the women’s Final BB game.

We have nothing going till Thursday for medical and other then eating out we will be home. As I mentioned previously we eat breakfast/brunch out on most Thursdays. Dinner is out with friends on Monday night that does limit our local selections but is the best time for a quiet dinner with our friends. We used to do Ruth Chris as my friend does the local commercials and they always gave us a private area to keep the autograph seekers away while we ate. A couple years ago they starting putting us at the center of the room. He still does commercials for them but we rarely eat there. Based on what I’m reading in my foodie FB group we lost a few area restaurants in March. Mostly small mom and pop ethnic places. Too bad but I think we will be seeing a big retrenching in the food business. I can’t find anything online regarding restaurants during the Great Depression. How did they fare? I do remember a few stories that dad told about Chicago eateries mainly Como’s Inn and Gene and Georgette’s

I keep trying to watch the Black Hawks but just can’t handle the choke in the 3rd period. They will be good in another couple years. I remember watching the Hawks in 2007 before the 3 Stanley Cup wins. They always fell apart in the 3rd period. These Hawks are younger, faster and stronger than those Hawks. I have good feelings for the future. They need a good new coach, not a retread! I like the interim coach but they won’t hire him

Enjoy the evening

What sort of problem are you having with email?

As I mentioned earlier Steel is a difficult color to copy. I have used these three colors from Vallejo but I'm not 100% sold on the outcome. I used intermediate blue then a lite coat of steel gray and then a very lite coat of lite rust. Just a test fit on the flatcar It'll need banding.
