Good Morning All. Raining and 48°. This is a real rain instead of the drizzly crap we've been having. Off and on thunderstorms since 0330 this morning. Currently looks like 1.25" in the gauge from my view from 20' away from the back porch. Wind chill of 42° from the north. Supposed to only get up to the low 50's today and tomorrow before sunshine and 70's return on Monday. Low temperature tomorrow night will approach freezing, quite late in the year for us.

Off to a late start this morning, got up to pee around 0230 and the distant thunder kept me awake. I laid back down just before 0600 hoping to get 30 minutes in, and didn't wake up until 0745. Looks like an inside day today, the rain should end before noon and then I will venture out to the train shed. Kinda a repeat of yesterday. I'll have to start a fire in the wood-burning heater soon, but I am prepared with about 36 hours of dry firewood already inside. Once going, I can stack more under the stove to dry out. Nice thing is that it only gets wet on the outside and dries off quickly. The dishwasher will start my day off today though.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I continued my quarterly cleanup. I finished up the last little bit of trackage and tuned up 9 switches. Then I removed and cleaned maybe a dozen downtown small businesses. The clock shop that I did Thursday worked out. I used Popsicle sticks as stiffeners on the roof instead of using styrene square rod.

They're quite stout and I never had one warp. These are new, not used, but they put a package of 5 inside every package of caramel that my wife buys to make Christmas treats.

Nothing significant about the next structures that I did yesterday. Most of them were built after I retired and I was less rushed to fill in blank spaces and they already have many details added.

Tom O - I have many comments regarding your post #118 yesterday, but some may be considered political so I'll refrain. I think that the future looks bright, but the path is going to be rocky.
My fish fry last night was quite successful, Beach Fish Tacos. Cod filets fried in a beer batter on corn tortillas with shredded Monterrey Jack cheese, homemade Chipolte tarter sauce, home-pickled red onions and homemade coleslaw. Hope that yours was just as good. It's a rare meal when I donate beer for cooking!
Troy - Indoor garden looks good. Those Radishes will be ready in about a week and a half. I still don't give the Carrots a chance though.
David - My wife has far too many other interests than to spend any time at all looking at a model railroad forum. She does occasionally see a picture on the screen in front of me and ask questions. Right now she stays busy with watercolor painting, college basketball's Final Four and the Hallmark channel on TV.
Joe - Interesting theory about Soros and/or the EU Soverign Funds, made me think a bit. Sounds plausible. I also wish that I knew what Pelosi is buying/selling!
Four or five days for the online tax refund is about what we generally see since we started doing it online.

Everybody stay dry and have a superb Saturday.

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those wondering if a "full English" is related to a Full Monty?

It's Troy again

MIL news: still in hospital. Minor progress being made.

Wife got a chance to start the DNR discussion with her. Fortunately, MIL has a pacemaker/defibrillator implanted already. So most life-threatening heart events are covered.

They brought a Doc in and had a good chat about it with Wife and her Sis there (both in healthcare professions). MIL agreed to it for this visit. They'll have to rehash the conversation once she's released, and get paperwork signed and notarized for the staff at the Senior Living facility.

In other news, I forgot to take my hearing aids out when I went to bed. You might recall I have problems with Tinnitus (currently at about a 7). I normally take them out, and put on a sound-headband with thin speakers over the ears. Its bluetoothed to my ipad, and I play water or crickets all night. I hear them and wife doesn't.

I heard them real well last night. So, the headband is still on (listening to waves lap on a lakeshore), while the hearing aids sit on the charger.

Not sure what today will bring, but I'll probably work on the book this morning. Do some tidying up while the wife is off at the hospital visiting her mother.

Back to tariffs, part of my gaming hobby is I count as a non-paid volunteer for the company in Greece that makes the models and writes the rules. As such, if I do my part and host two game days a month (or equivalent) then I get a $50 voucher to use in their online store. I still pay $18 shipping or more, but a $32 discount isn't bad at all.

But they ship from Greece. But I think the under $800 direct-ship is still exempt. However, companies are scrambling to figure it out on their end.

I was going to order a brontosaurus next month... Dang! Don't want to pay extra to get him shipped.
Tariffs are a duty and usually paid by you when you receive it from them?

Greetings again,

Things at the office moving smoothly. Starting the updates from home meant the machines were ready to reboot when I got here. The usually slowest machines actually rebooted the quickest, so I'm not sure what is up with that.

I go to the gym nearly every day:

I nearly went Monday.
I nearly went Tuesday.
I nearly went Wednesday...

Good mornin' crew. It's cloudy and 24 in Cheyenne this AM. Winds are relatively calm NNW @ 5. Today's forecast 42 with low to night of 24. No precipitation in the forecast. Clearing and cooler later this evening. Warming trend beginning tomorrow and continuing into next week.

Quiet day yesterday. NJ(ret) a bit under the weather, so looking after her. No train work. By the way, she loves riding trains and we've ridden a bunch of them over the years, but she has absolutely has no interest in models. I get that universal reply of, "That's nice Dear."

Big train show in Denver this weekend, but still not quite up to that much physical activity. Cheyenne train show is in June.

Meds: I started on Lisinopril about 10 years ago. Every time the Doc has tried me on something new, I ended up having to go back to the Lisinopril. Still on it. Tried a couple of things for the A-fib and same thing ( I do not have a pacemaker). Biggest problem is I have ulcerative colitis which precludes blood thinners like Eliquis, Plavix, etc. Looking at having a procedure later this year to place a small filter-like device in my heart to stop any blood clots from forming.

Workbench and train shed quiet this weekend, but with some warmer temps next week, it'll be time to get started on the layout itself. Trying not to get too far ahead of myself with rolling stock and structure kits.

That's about it from here. Y'all have a good weekend and take care.

There is a website that tracks Politicians stock movement. I will search for it.

I have no proof, I’m not a believer in conspiracy theories but my gut tells me tanking of the market is intentional. Lower the interest rates, add inflation and the USA debt will get paid. It just seems too orchestrated and if tariffs are reversed next week we will know. This morning I read a commentary that sort of agrees with me. But it was laced with all sorts of unprovable guesses and ended up being a political bash job. I do not think though anybody expected the pushback from the other countries.

I do not believe the Soros conspiracy nor do I believe the Oligarchs are clever enough to manipulate all this.

2 months ago I was worried about tariffs, the economy and with the reduction of government employees. Today, I’m more worried about USA’s standing in the world and Social Security. I know quite a few retired modelers that SS is their main income and to be told it’s an entitlement is a disgrace coming out of the mouths of Congressmen and Senators that can legally use insider trading with no legal repercussions. Terry (ultra liberal) and I ( somewhat conservative) both agree though the Stock Market will rebound by years end to over 50,000. It will be interesting in the mean time

Warren Buffet has $360 billion in cash today and says he has been waiting for this moment for years. Buy good companies in a downturn and hold them. You will create yourself generational wealth. Terry says we are not missing this year’s Berkshire annual meeting in Omaha in May.

Two things to consider...There was some evidence back in 2007 of Soros bidding up oil futures to provoke a downturn... Then again there were a lot of hands in the pie....like some of the shenanigans from Goldman. Oligarchs I agree are not capable of this, but Soverign Funds especially the EU are.
As far as our standing in the world, They resent us and regard us as deep pocket chumps, and have since 1945 or earlier. Remember, we are "Cowboys" in their minds. We as a nation tend to worry about others while ignoring or resisting helping our own.... The power of the 14th Street lobbyists, working for their foreign clients.

Just a thought.....

My blood pressure today 111/60, life is good. Even when my blood pressure goes considerably lower, I only notice being tired. But I have done some weird things I don't remember doing. The blessing is my blood pressure doesn't usually drop until the afternoon.

I'm still perking, working, and having a ball! I miss the grease man. Which reminds me, I need to hear something from the back of the rack!

Three months ago, at my primary care doctor's office they wouldn't let me leave until my blood pressure went up. They knew I was not going to the emergency room, at least not conscious. My doctor gave me some kind of trail mix. It looked and tasted like bird food and several cups of water. I don't like bird food, and I never drink water. But I was desperate to get out of the office. Desperate times call for desperate measures.

No more sink o de mayo. 🤪 Or lost keys.

Beautiful 75 degree day. I thought it would be a great idea to build a small retaining wall, on the slope behind one of my vegetable beds. The wall was only going to be 6' long and 2' tall.

I live in a single story home, on a hillside, with 32 steps into the back yard. I carried those oh so light  concrete pavers, two at a time, down those steps......and walked back up those 32 steps, then repeated the fun until all the pavers were in the back yard.😥

At least the clay was still wet enough to make the grading process a bit easier.

Glad this wasn't a gym day. Project completed and I'm beat.

I'm learning that it doesn't matter how good your physical conditioning is. Physical labor is always going to be more difficult at 65 than 45.

Lesson learned.🫤

My grandfather used to say, "The stock market is run on emotion. The president sneezed...get me my broker!" A late buddy of mine used to say, "When your outgo exceeds your income, your upkeep will be your downfall!" Probably both of them were right. Wonder if the latter applies to governments as well as individuals? Somebody said, "Cheer up. Things could be worse." So, I cheered up, and sure enough, things got worse! I don't drink. Should I start now, or wait until the foreign alcohol tarrifs go down?

Last Tuesday, I went to town. Had to run the A/C in my Trailblazer as it was in the mid/upper 80s with lots of sunshine. It has been in the mid 60s since then and today wet, cloudy and 48 degrees.

I have managed to waste away the whole day sitting in front of my confuser. I bought a few pieces of rolling stock of the buy/sell forum and bought a PSX-1 circuit breaker. Got some "Goop" hand cleaner and a couple of very small stainless steel funnels for pouring paint. I was wanting to order some original GoJo hand cleaner but it has been discontinued. Besides being a good hand cleaner, I used the stuff for removing lettering from steam tenders as it removed the lettering but did not affect the underlying paint.

I was going to work on turnout servos today but just never got to it. That will be tomorrows project.

I spent a considerable amount of time trying to find info for Walthers Mainline decoder board wiring/plug layout so I could connect a speaker and a keep-alive to a DCC ready loco. The board takes a Next 18 decoder and I have one of those I can use without having to spend $125.00 for a new mother board and 21 pin decoder. Walthers offers NOTHING ! They say you can access that info by going to the product you have purchased and clicking "on the link" ( I never found any link for any locomotives ) to the technical info. The only thing I could find was copies of instructions for Walthers buildings. Searched YouTube videos and found nothing there. I called Walthers last Wednesday or Thursday, left my phone number and questions I had so they could reach out to me later.......still waiting on that one.

I find investing in the stock market much like gambling in Vegas, except you know the odds favor the house in Vegas. Never invest more than you can afford to loose.

And so it goes..........John

Spent the afternoon cutting out and fitting sidewalks and driveways etc. Need a warm, dry and wind less day to paint with a rattle can. Started background row houses.
Saw photos of Bruce Elliot's model of the Sykesville, MD station on the B&O in 1950. Also a prototype photo. Wish I could model that well.
The Devils beat the Rangers, Toronto beat Columbus. Meanwhile Ottawa and Montreal won their games. Looks like Eastern Conference Wild cards 1 & 2 will go to Canada (Ottawa and Montreal). Capitals play on Long Island tomorrow. Will Ovie break the NHL all time scoring record? Go Ovie, Go Caps!
U-Tube has become nothing but mind numbing propaganda....from all directions. Much less Model Railroad Content.

True. The odds favor the Big Investment houses in the markets, but the trick is to buy when the markets are low, ant when they are setting new highs. Tom O quoted Warren Buffet, who accumulates cash when the markets peak, and buys only when they are down...That's the way to do it.
Wish I knew that when I was younger.....
