I forgot to mention that on our way to Evanston Wyoming and back on Sunday I saw a few trains going up the canyon.
This is Union Pacific territory and all were UP.
I was driving so wasn’t able to get a good look but it looked like there was only one locomotive at the front hauling the trains up the canyon. There could have been something in the middle or at the end as pusher but I didn’t see anything in my glances as I tried to get a look. I could have also just missed stuff. They were “pretty long” with probably close to 100 cars in each. As we went home there was one going up and it seemed to be going like 5 mph (probably a lot faster but it seemed very slow) which would make sense with just one locomotive hauling the train up hill.
The only train we saw with more than one obvious locomotive was stopped in what I presume was a siding. It had three locomotives.
All were mixed with tank cars, hoppers, those with the middle vertical rack, what I think were enclosed car haulers, and some well cars with containers. Also I think I saw some sort of flat cars. Quite a mix with the container cars a decided minority. All were pretty dirty and with graffiti. There was one box car that was totally painted to look like a Mt Dew variety and very well done but it had some other word on the side I didn’t recognize and I’m guessing it was a full car graffiti job.
It was interesting to see the trains. About the only time I see trains is going up the canyon to Evanston. There is a main line that runs N and S and you get freight on it but I’m. It nearby that often and don’t see trains that often when I’m nearby.
Not doing a lot of US model railroads I’m not that familiar with all the various kinds of cars and stuff. I do think I saw an ES44 or relative in the same family, perhaps ancestor, and also the modern SD70 variants. I have 4 US UP locomotives. 3 SD70Ac or whatever it is and one ES44 in my fleet and exclusively well cars and flat cars and containers and a few truck trailers.
