Good Morning All. Clear and 46°. Winds return today out of the SE, which always brings clouds and humidity, thanks to Louisiana. That might be enough for thundershowers tonight and tomorrow. High today around 75°. Otherwise temperatures in the 80's tomorrow through Saturday as the winds switch from the south.

Made a trip over to the scrap metal recycling center yesterday with a load of aluminum cans and scrap steel. Steel was down to 6.25¢/lb while aluminum cans were up to 75¢/lb, from 40¢ a year ago. I made a cool $55.00 which paid for the gas over and back (~$4) and then some. I recycle for the sake of recycling, not for any profit, but it is nice to receive.

Thanks for the likes and comments on the "family" pictures yesterday; Tom O, Guy, James, Steve J, Dave B, Chad, Hughie, Sherrel, Karl, Patrick, Louis, Curt, IB Ken, Smudge, Tom, Troy, Rick, Gary, OB Ken.

I did get to spend some time in the train shed yesterday, but just didn't get into the mood for modeling. OK, because I can always run a few trains. About all of the modeling I did was to add an interior to the LH ground floor side of the Seymour Block DPM model that is my current project. I added plumbing vents to the roof, but they aren't visible in this photo.
IMG_0692.JPG

I don't remember whether or not I posted the upper floor last week, but here it is as well.
Having trouble finding something for the RH side that is to scale, or is scalable to fit. Those windows are a scale 9' tall. First I have to determine what kind of business I want it to represent. I may have previously posted that the upper floor is a residential apartment accessed by the door/stairway in the center.

Garden update: The first little cabbages are starting to form and there are flowers all over the tomato plants.

Todd - Continue to have a safe journey.
Tom O - $72/adult for brunch is outrageous! While we didn't go, Sunday's brunch at my SIL's country club was $35/ non-member adult and $15/member. They always have a Prime Rib bar next to the omelet stations. Since he just puts it on his monthly bill, it is $15@ for all of us
My reason for modeler's block right now is the great weather that we are experiencing, despite the constant wind. But that's expected this time of year.
James - Quite a busy weekend.
Steve J - At our church, on Easter Sunday we are always standing room only when compared to any other Sunday. Sadly, most members of the congregation are in my generation and many are older and much more frail than I. I lean against the wall usually. Church is in Lindsay TX, 21 miles north. It's a beautiful traditional church.

The Gaylord is an experience that you won't soon forget. It has a beautiful atrium, and a lake outside. This is the perfect time to visit it. One can stay the whole time without leaving the property and have many different experiences. There is a beautiful tree filled courtyard between the hotel and the lake that is really fine as I remember. It can properly be called "a resort".
Mike - I have been through the "Inherited IRA" thing before. Had to take an RMD from one that I inherited from my Dad. At the time (2005) I wasn't using any investment firms and I had to educate my bank in how to set up an Inherited IRA in a money market account. That was in the days when money market accounts actually made money. It's a small town bank and they had never even heard of that concept before.
Joe - Fine looking yard. I just press the wires flat and disguise with ballast.

Everybody have a wonderful day. Wish that all of you could have a spring day as nice as ours is going to be.

The building, cabbage and the church all look fantastic, actually quite jealous, we've finally got into double figures temperature wise, but still feels cold.

Good afternoon all,

Currently 33° and some off/on snow showers today. Some slippery roads on the way in this morning.

We had a great Easter, packed church and I knew every hymn. MIL and nephew over for a delicious easter dinner at our house. My wife is a great cook and she enjoys it. We sometimes "fight" over leftovers, even.

Ken OBTC - glad some improvement with the eyes

Smudge - Toe truck 😁

Troy - Luck helping MIL move. At least if you are buying donuts, you can make sure to get your personal favorite

TomO - $72 per plate buffet price? Ouch.

Also, a great day in the train room Saturday. Finished more hydrocal, also unpacked some more treasures

Horses don't look too bad, I need to work on the mans face, however

View attachment 144590

more fun, this bus was a challenge to assemble. Looks like I have a hairline space to deal with:

View attachment 144591

I remember it being a challenge to get all the bus parts to line up. Maybe photo from the other side?

More later, Dave LASM
I would paint the mane and tail on the horses a darker brown, almost black.

Love the church shame there’s not a model kit for it.

Good afternoon all,

It is a pleasant 40°, calm, full sunshine. They took the snow out of the forecast so today is a BANNER day!

I got two batches of hydrocal down last night, a little before and a little after supper, I will post the pic after it is painted (the easy part)

Guy, Joe- - especially for you, though many will enjoy the pics, these old ones are of UNKNOWN origin, they were on my memory card:

This coal unloader method is not new, looks pretty simple:

gravel,coal unloader.jpg

That is some antique stuff, pretty big chunks of coal I see. Not sure if the trucks backed up under it, no tracks or worn path directly under the chute???

(above) also good example of a weathered hopper car, note "for local service only" imprinted

water tank.jpg

Here is a water tank and engine house, must be a sand pile but no dryer

Smudge - for you, since you are building the engine house now. Also, looks like a bit of rerailer on the bottom right???? Or, just junk in the track?

Last, loading grain into box cars--

These would have had to be cleaned before they put the grain in

weathering box cars.jpg

The silos are visible in the back right, see where flexible grain chutes enter the sides

More later - Dave LASM

I can't find the foto your referring too, but if it was grey coloured, it would be the rerailer

Well, howdy there internet people, and those there with us in spirit today as we moved the MIL

Wife is still in there getting the boxes unpacked. I got the TV and cable box connected, and dutifully pulled out the mini-Swiss Army knife to open any boxes presented to me. Had to make one hardware store run to get a power strip for the TV and gizmos. Only outlet on that wall .

As for churches, I could post many a photo, after 20 years as a wedding photographer. Many pretty churches, a few outdoor weddings in sweltering heat... and quite a few divorces, including the very last wedding I photographed.

I've got my favorites from the churches, ministers/reverends/Fathers... and a few I'd rather never meet again.

For those wondering. The 400-ish times I attended those ceremonies, none stuck. 🤪

On the other hand, in one Catholic ceremony I remember, the scripture reading was handled by the brother of the bride... he begins reading from the Song of Solomon:

My beloved is like a gazelle or a young stag. Look! There he stands behind our wall, gazing through the windows–

The priest keys mic and cuts in: "Wrong Verse. Skip a bit, brother. Try verse 16"

Red-faced brother continues: “I am my beloved's, and my beloved is mine...”

Afternoon All,

Spent the morning doing a project in the wife's sewing room. Of course, that entailed a trip to Lowes. After lunch I put together a pole light that was needed in the background of the engine servicing area. I'm getting pretty darn quick at putting them together. Not sure what's on the agenda for tomorrow.

Thank you for the photo likes yesterday.

George- I'm sure the church has a special meaning for you. Now I understand about the radiation detector. I couldn't figure out why you would get it.

Guy- Thank you. I really enjoy your wildlife photos. Our town has grown up so much all we ever get are raccoons, opossums, squirrels, and a occasional rabbit.

Joe- We thought our grandson had done that to us, but it turned out to be allergies :). I hope you feel better soon. Nice progress on the layout. You don't drill through the cork roadbed to place your feeders?

TomO- I didn't realize that you were talking about a horse rescue. I thought they were yours. Are they rehabbed so they can go to a permanent home?

Steve- I hope you heal quickly. This would be a good time to build structures.

Willie- Great looking detail work.

Dave- Great photos.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Good Morning Everyone....another winter day here in Spring in Wisconsin. A couple warmer days are promised. We need the rain since we had a lack of snowfall this winter.

The salaries of professional sports players is out of hand. The players' positions and the salary's they make have turned into business ventures for the players and games cost the fans a small fortune to attend a game that lasts only a few hours. We used to get comp Brewer tickets from a company I did business with and the four tickets and two parking passes were nice, but add on the cost of a beer or two and some snacks or a brat for four people and you're in the $100.00 range even with free tickets and parking. The cost of a beer is too high and you can see the Miller brewery from AmFam Park.

The starting salary for a baseball player is $570,500 while the Commissioner of Baseball makes $11 million a year!!!

The best time at a Brewers game was in mid-summer during an office outing. I stayed with soda at our tailgate party and during the game I had a monster Pepsi with salted peanuts, still around $10.00. Delicious!

Don't get me going on the salaries of football players.

I'm having a running battle with Facebook. I changed my age to an age under 13 and now I have to prove I'm over 13 to get reinstated. They literally froze my account even after I sent then proof of my age. Funny if even I was under 13, I could access most adult sites on the web but FB is making a major case out of my age. If it doesn't get resolved, I'm going to block everything from FB that I still receive but can't open.

Yesterday's three inches of snow has melted. Looks like the Daffodils have survived the snow cover with a little damage to the flowers. Willie, nice early garden!!!! I beginning to wonder why I stayed in Wisconsin after retiring???

The landscapers came and cut down to very short plants many of our landscape plants leaving the specimen plants just trimmed. It's surprising how fast the trimmed plants will grow with the root systems intact and the top grow really pruned. The yard looks bare right now, but it with be different in a month or so. Our hedge was 10 feet high along the lot line and the neighbors I can tell are upset that we cut it to six feet. So what...I have to look a the kids old Milwaukee black and white squad car parked in their driveway.

Give me the cabin and the woods and nature I look at out our cabin's front sliding doors. Just nature to see.

Nothing to talk about in the model railroad world.

Greg

Average MLB player salary for 2021 $4.7 million. Minimum MLB player salary 2022 $700k.
The owners are Billionaires. Rich men are not in the habit of giving away money.

If I could take the mound every 5th day, throw 90+mph and consistently pitch on the black, I'd get some too!

When Babe Ruth was told that his 1930 salary of $80,000 was more than that of this president, Babe said, "I had a better year.”

An obscene amount of money for any 1 person to make in a year, especially for playing a game
Unfortunately, the fans are also to blame for the high wages, as they are the ones paying the high prices to watch the games, a season ticket to watch a premier league football team is well over £1500, some are double that. But that is the price of success these days.
