Well, howdy there people.
It's Troy again.
Today lets talk endemic...
Five days ago I left my Author Conf in Vegas. Following my booster shot, I decided I was only going to mask up when required. Technically, we had to in the conference center. But. walking to and from the coffee to my table wasn't a higher risk than sitting at the table and sipping coffee while I networked with others. Hotel proper, we masked up (which helped with the smoke that is Vegas - ugh...)
That's what an endemic is... what we have with influenza, and other corona viruses. They circulate, we reduce risk, maybe get them, fight them off, go on with our routines once we're better. That's what the vaccines are to help with. reduce severe illness, shorten durration. For many, you won't know you had it. For others, mild cases. for a rare few, severe cases.
But, we just had our first reports of two of the more well known attendees testing positive. One was ALWAYS masked when I saw him outside of restaurants. The other is a popular author, and host of a podcast for authors. So he had a lot of time not masking.
I'm checking temp and watching for systems. So far, ok, but we're in the part of this thing where we're going to have to learn to live with it. That means getting as many people vaccinated, and being as sensible as we can be.
And in a rare display of self promo - here's the book I just finished... be available next month. It went to the editor this morning.
