Willie, good choice in turning the job over to professionals. Just make sure they have insurance and release you from any liability for whatever may happen. I had a friend come over to take down a 90+ foot tall oak. The tree had to be topped first before cutting the whole thing down. He was killed in the process when the tree split and broke his climbing harness. He fell 60 feet to his death. Rotted or bored trees can take another direction of fall than intended. They are tons of wood waiting to smash something.

Morning RR fans! I am just sort of in the doldrums at this time: I hate the fact that it gets dark so early - I like the bright, sunny days and the warm/hot days!

JESSIE, save me a chair - I'll grab a plate of bacon and join you in a moment.
TERRY - I'll add my positive thoughts along with the others. You have way too many smarts to be where you are?
WILLIE: I think know that I would be looking for someone to split that wood for me. A short story: The mechanics went on strike in the 60's and I signed up to split and deliver 24 cords of wood for the folks living around us at the lake in K.C. The strike was settled in 3 days and I thought I was going to die before I finished that task; I did hire a worker to help me, so I did not make a dime off of the operation.
CURT - you are up early today!
LOUIS - All my train stuff is in total disarray and my workbench is piled high with about every tool I own; it is a total CF!

soccer in edmonton at -10 C !! can beats mexico
No rail or road service into or out of Vancouver due to all hwys washed out or under water ! going to cause all sorts of grief for the country due to all the ripples. Too much fire , then too much water. up to 10 inches in just hrs in a few places.

Because I'm not a hunter, a cop or a professional killer, I only can buy this kind of gun:

Good Morning All. Clear and 60°, possibly going up to 80° later today. A full schedule of outdoor tasks is at hand today since the weather is going to be so beautiful. Oh! The NWS has added rain to the forecast for Thanksgiving Day, OK though since I am not going anywhere. It's a shame since my extra large family is resuming our long-standing traditional Thanksgiving get together. Instead, I will cook the turkey and stuffing for us and one daughter, SIL and granddaughter here. I'll have to learn how to make the homemade cranberry concoction. Daughter is bringing the smashed potatoes, rolls and desserts. I'll also be making green bean casserole with last spring's canned green beans. Wife says that she should be able to stand long enough to make the gravy, or at least supervise!
Wife's broken tooth is going to require a crown. For now the dentist just cemented a filling on there to suffice for a month or so until after the knee surgery.

Thanks to all who liked or commented on my post from yesterday; Louis, Christian, Guy, Sherrel, Hughie, Karl, Curt, Tom, Patrick, Rick, Tom O, IB Ken, OB Ken.

I'll have a light breakfast this morning Flo, just a BLT with OJ.

Well I just thought that Sunday was a slow day out in the train shed, but yesterday was even slower. I made no visible progress on anything. I was able to clean and straighten up a couple of under-layout shelves while looking for something that I never found. I also sorted through some figures, both unpainted Preiser ones and painted Chinese ones for the next batch to be painted or repainted as the case may be. I did add a single figure to a scene that I posted about ten days ago.

But otherwise it was a dead day. They can't all be productive up top.

Mikey - Very nice scene. It is well done.
Jesse - I've also done some business with "We Honest" before. They're a step above the typical Chinese model railroading goods. Many of their products are available on Amazon and Ebay, which reduces delivery times.
Karl -

What gnu? That's The Count from Sesame Street.

Everybody have a great day. Stay safe and don't overdo it Guy.
I'm pretty sure I arrested that guy with the camera one time during my police career 🤣

Good evening Shop Dwellers!

Thanks everybody for the "likes" on my Sunday post.

I haven't posted here much recently, because I've just been feeling generally uninspired - most likely because of the sun going down at 5:00pm. I just have zero energy once I've clocked out, and don't feel like doing much of anything in the trainroom. I'd prefer to just crawl into bed, but of course that's not an option - especially on evenings when I have supper duty.

I'll pull out another photo from the archives - this was taken ~15 years ago on my previous layout. It's the same structure I posted in the photo of a few days ago where an oxygen furnace is being charged, one of the few pictures I've shot with figures in it - sorta tells a story. The 44-tonner in the photo is currently sitting in a scrapbox somewhere under the layout, it never was a very good runner (dual-motor version) and I didn't feel like investing any time in trying to fit it with a decoder.

Good Night - and have a Pleasant Tomorrow!
I'm having the same problem. It's still a little dark when I leave for work and it's dark when I drive home. Hard to stay motivated.

Good morning fellow trainthusiasts (new word, copyright 2021 Ken Pryor) 🤣

Flo: Black coffee and keep it coming. I'll have an order of biscuits and gravy in about an hour.

Off today and tomorrow and man do I need it. Work has been really rough the last couple days. The addition of a new inventory tracking system is a good thing, but catching up after two weeks of doing nothing in preparation for it has really made work tough.

Anyway, my back has been hurting pretty bad after lifting and moving a bunch of 1000 foot spools of electrical wire at work, so I'm hoping I can just take it easy today as much as possible. My whole body is feeling pretty worn out lately. Wishing that other job had worked out for me, but it wasn't meant to be.

Gonna try to stick around home for the most part today. Hope you all have a great one!
Ken

Ken - Terrible story regarding your friend. Conisha from Wally's Tree Service showed me both notarized proofs of insurance, one regarding my property and the other covering her workers. Looked legit as I used to deal with that sort of thing in my employed for pay days. Another service that I had come out to bid on the job, was self-insured.
I have over the years felled taller trees, not as big around and most not as close to the house and pool. 41 years of wood heating has kept me on top of things and I easily realized that this job wasn't within my skill range. And at nearly 70 years young, I gave myself a break on this one.

Good Morning gang.

Terry, best of luck to you. As I said before, we went through that in June of 2020, went from a mom & pop outfit to a corporation with a dozen dealerships. I was scary at 1st, but we are making more money than we had,, with most of the original staff. I hope it works the same for you.

Flo, can I get some biscuits and gravy, and a large OJ ?

Good Morning!
I believe the snow storm has moved on!
It took me 5hrs to dig out two homes yesterday. Today, I'll have to go over it and clean up the wind blown drifts.

Patrick - I own a snowblower, but, it's way to hard to start in the cold. I get frustrated, give it a kick, and go for my old friend the snow-shovel. Good side of it is, that I'm in great shape.

The sun is shining today. It's only 2F, though. - Think I'll take the camera when I go walk the dog.

Willie - Thank you for the concern for my health via a comment. - That looks like good lot of handy accessory parts you've cleaned up off the desk. Suppose I'll windup with a collection like that one day; if I keep at it.

Curt - Thanks for the comment, but, I like living here. Even if it is white for half the year. I've been here my whole life, and I'm rather used to it.

I probably won't be coming in for a couple days; not expecting to do anything train room, modeling, or photo taking. Too much real life stuff in the way for a few days. But, I'll be back! Like a recurring nightmare; a bug that won't quit bothering you, the wind that won't die down, you're ex-wife coming back for another paycheck. I'll see ya all later!

Have a good one!

Good early morning as it is 4:09am as I type this. 69 now heading to 83 today. Yesterday is the first day here it hasn’t hit 80 as the weather guessers were wrong. Still yesterday was another gorgeous day.

Seems I can’t go back to sleep after the 3:35 nature wake up call. So I picked up the IPad and here I am.

Trains, still waiting for materials to build the wall in the garage. This will be my 1st time using metal studs which are about 30% less expensive then lumber 2x4 here and they are straight and in stock.

Depending on the brother’s decision about the counter offer to his counter offer we may be heading back to Wisconsin next week. If he accepts it we will help him pack up all the non furniture and move it to his garage. The people who offered the counter to the counter have changed the move in date from 12/15 to 12/1. They didn‘t have an issue though with him keeping one of the 3 cars. Basically this is the stupidest countering of offers on a house I have ever seen. But, because cars on the island are much more expensive then on the mainland and the lease market here is ridiculously over priced the cars are a point of contention.

I spoke to the grandson yesterday via Skype and he informed me the 3 games he played in this weekend he score 4 goals and 4 assists. His says his line mates are the best players he has ever played with, he will be 8 next week. I asked if he still prefers hockey over soccer and his answer was, “I have no future in hockey” but maybe in soccer he said because mom and dad are so short, mom is 5’7” and dad is 5’9”. In the great news department he was just cleared by the school board as he tested out of high school math and the schools now have to provide him college level math instruction, again he will only be 8 next week. His reading and comprehension skills also tested out of high school but his parents want him to continue in the classroom for a normal education minus the math where he will leave the classroom for his college instruction. Terry has a feeling that the regular classroom work won’t last past this year as he is to smart for staying in the class.

No golf for me today and my brother last night was looking for a partner for today and tomorrow. I burned yesterday from the sun. Stupid me took the hat off for about an hour yesterday. Because of my meds I am very sensitive to the sun and I burn then blister. I had all the protection on but took off the hat and my forehead yesterday afternoon sent me to the urgent care center. Doctor laughed after he examined me. Said you are sun sensitive and you are building in Hawaii, maybe a shrink for you? A golf buddy of my brother that I had met before the examine or I would have nailed him to the wall. Smart ass he is.

Good to see all the postings. The gun thing. I have a license to conceal carry for the last 18 months or so. Before that I was along with the wife against weapons. After seeing the way the USA has changed we decided that having a few guns in the house were a matter of extra safety for us. I carry my pistol on my left leg in a ankle holster. HOWEVER I still see no need to allow a AR15 or whatever to be opened carried on any street in the USA let alone during a riot in Kenosha. That riot occurred exactly 1 week after Terry and I visited the lakefront in Kenosha. That riot and killings confirmed to Terry that we needed a gun for additional protection. YMMV.

Enjoy your day, be safe and happy
TomO

posting this again as it is still very appropriate

Guy, get the snow blower professionally tuned up. My Craftsmen snowblower starts on the second pull. Shoveling is great exercise but so is snow blowing.

Be safe

When I first got to Minnesota (in the summer), I was really impressed by how engaged everyone was with outside activities involving physical exercise: running, hiking, biking, all kinds of things. I thought "Man, this must be because summer is so short."

Little did I realize that the true reason was that everyone was trying desperately to get in shape for shoveling season!

Afternoon All,

Today in the train room I got the dirt glued down and put in WS ground cover in spots. Tomorrow I plan on doing the static grass and asphalt surfaces. MOH made it in around 1330 and of course I have been doing little jobs since then. :( But I'm not surprised.

Thank you for all the likes yesterday.

Troy- I looked up the series to see what it is.

Jaz- Thank you. It's a lesson learned from my last layout. That was the first thing I did after finishing the track work. Great layout shots.

TomO- Enjoy your vacation. The wife and I (both Navy) were stationed there for 15 years and my son was born there. When we retired we left because we just wouldn't be able to afford living there anymore.

Tom- Nice photos.

Mikey- Nice scene. I would leave it exactly like that.

James- That is so true.

Terry- That's really bad. I look at that as the week has 6 Saturdays and 1 Sunday.

Willie- They didn't tell us that before we retired. The guy with the binoculars is kind of obvious but that is probably your point.

Guy- That is a good reason not to live in a place that turns white in winter.

I hope everyone has a good night
Thanks Curt. I really am having a good time. I need a few more things to keep me busy but you know sitting in the shade by the pool at 4pm is a rather pleasant thing. Especially when it is 80+ here and 30 something at home in Wisconsin.

Morning again,

Spent 2+ hours banging my head about why my test user sees everything even stuff that it doesn't have access to, then it occurred to me that access based enumeration was what I needed, and IIRC I even bookmarked the page for further use. Sure enough, I had to go to a different spot and place a check mark in the box and voila (fancy French word for Christian! You're welcome 🤣), I copying data over as I type.

Concerning the snow blower, that's why I have electric start on the darn thing. I've only pull started it after I ran out of gas and the machine was still warm. A friend of my dad's had a heart attack trying to get one started, nope not me....I'll have mine doing something stupid. ;)
