Good Morning!!
And it's a lovely morning at 16F. Except!!! This is the 2nd year in a row there won't be a Remembrance Day service here in town, attributed to the covid thing. - What a horrifically weak excuse! Weird the way they can have church services and folks can shop in Wallmart, but, they can't take time out to remember our most courageous and noble service veterans. - Guess I'll make a stop in the local cemetery, and bow in prayer at the veterans plots. There are veterans there who gave their lives right up into Afghanistan. God Bless them all!

I'm especially disappointed in the local mills. They're running today, having moved the statutory holiday to next Monday, so they can have a 3 day weekend. That's just purely ignorant. Evil! - One don't have to join a circus, to be in a circus. - The whole thought of it has just ruined my day. I need to try and move on; happy up.

Every morning for the last while, I've been walking the dog down to Beaver Creek and taking photos of a particular couple of bends in the creek. The reason is, that I like the scene, and hope to model similar on my layout this winter. So, I've taken reference photos from all angles, and at all times of the year.
I believe I've already posted photos of this scene in the shop. Here it is again from yesterday, the creek covered in ice:

Then, as I was standing there thinking about ways to model the scene, a vision of a train appeared in my mind:

I believe it is possible to model this scene.

Have a great day everyone. Thankyou, all our noble veterans!!

Not as majestic as your picture
mine are in the garden with borage and onions, self seeds should rip them out but lost my dad and he was dropped behind in the 2nd one.I have a big bumper poppy it never makes it to the car. so many lost their lives to give freedom, and so many veterans on the street, horrible they are not looked after.

agree, if you can go to Wally World you can honor the veterans.

love the creek scene. Would it be a Fall scene though on the layout?

Good morning and Happy Veterans Day. 64 at 5am heading to 81.

The brother has countered one offer and refused 3 others with no comment. He really wants to be here for Xmas but all offers were moving out before that. We stopped at his friends place that he could rent but it’s an 18 month agreement but the brother is rightly hesitant about signing that. Tough for him but he’ll survive.

Some golf yesterday, just 9 holes in the wind. Shot 40 from the tips. Brother shot 34 on a 3700yard par 36 9 hole course. We made enough to buy dinner out last night. Yes, I have broken the no gambling rule but with permission from Terry. These guys are just begging to lose their money.

Trains, I could go broke looking at all the sales deals at Lombard, Hiawatha, MidwestModelrr.com and SpringCreek. You can tell Xmas is coming. With Micro Engineering for sale, I am contemplating buying code 83 rail and storing in but don’t really have a good reason. Unless, I really build a layout here after the house is done around xmas 2022. I Skyoked with the grandson and SIL yesterday afternoon. The g/s is running the layout using his Thomas Engines.

Going for a swim before the ladies wake this morning.

Good Morning all! A happy Veteran's Day to all that served.
Flo, just a bowl of oatmeal please and coffee.

Mikey - zoom in, there are 4 figures on the structure. N scale so they are only 3/8" tall.
Guy - nice to see you still have steam locomotives in your area.
Christian - no there are no threads about my layout. I limit my online social media to just this diner.

This is a photo from the Lanai. This is not my picture as the brother does not allow pictures to be taken. This picture is from Zillow when the house was still for sale before the brother purchased it. That is the ocean between the trees and that is were I am now sitting drying off from my swim.

Now to get downstairs as I have most of the stuff caught up. Cabinet installed, snowblower fueled and first start so it's ready to go, downspout re-attached and hoses taken off the faucets at the boy's house. I just have to put the last of the winterizer down. I'd still like a nap as I still had to still get up at 3:30 this morning.

Afternoon All,

I believe I finished up the static grass around the mine site today. I took a couple of photos but the light from the window washed the color out. Happy Veterans Day to all the vets out there. The wife took off on her trip early today and should be back on Monday.

Thank you for all the likes yesterday.

Hughie- Very nice scene.

IB Ken- Very nice effect with the light.

Willie- Great scenes.

Guy- It's very doable.

I hope everyone has a good night.

I'll try this again. Pushed the wrong button, and everything posted except for a complete post.

Good Afternoon.
Jaz avalley - I have one of those Hawker Typhoons. 1/72 scale Airfix, built before I started into the railroadhobby:

TomO - I believe I would like to try an 'Autumn' time period scene, when the leaves are just starting to turn. That time when the larch still have their needles, but the deciduous have changed color. A little bit earlier than this photo of the area shows:
CougarRdgTrail_09-26-2021 (4).JPG

That olive green patch right smack dab in the middle are larch.

I got so excited thinking about the start of modeling season, that I went right down into the basement and continued the train room reno. Working all by myself, and there is lots to do. So it really feels like I'm not making headway. I'll just do a-bit everyday for now, and it should get done. I spent 4hrs down there today. Tomorrow, I mean to start treating it like it's my job.
I'll post progress photos when progress is worthwhile.

See you all next time!

Good evening Shop Dwellers! Wishing a happy Veterans Day / Remembrance Day to all who served.

Thanks for the likes and/or comments on my BOF photo post from Wednesday evening: Tom-C51, Hughie, Guy, Steve-J, Patrick, Willie, Rick, OB Ken, Christian, Chad, Sherrell, Karl, Mikey, Curt

- Regarding underground utility wires, I can't imagine those being buried alongside a railroad right-of-way; I've always thought of that as being done in modern housing developments and other non-industrial areas[?] But if you have any photos of such access hardware near a track, I'd certainly like to see it!

Jesse - interestingly enough, that Model Power gas station kit you picked up looks like a lot of the gas stations that were in my region during my modeling period - more of those than the ones like the City Classics kit. I'd love to find an HO version of that at a train show!

Well, I'm back to doing more scenic improvement work on the layout. Since I had Vets Day off, I decided to take advantage of the mild & dry weather by rolling out the table saw and cutting up some 5" wide sections of Masonite which will be covered by Evergreen Corrugated Metal siding, to serve as a view block between my classification yard and staging tracks which run parallel to it. I want it to resemble the outside wall of a steel rolling mill, where the prototypes were often over a mile in length. I've always wanted to not have a specific train running thru the same scene more than once on different rights-of-way. Now that trains on those [virtually] out-of-sight tracks don't need to be uncoupled for runaround moves [which were necessary before I put in the Ford assembly plant trackage], I can finally hide those supposedly far-away trains - at least when viewed from a trackside perspective. Here are the materials:
ClarkAveStagingViewBlockSupplies.jpg

...and here is where the new wall is gonna go, along the red line between the two sets of trackwork:
StagingViewBlockSiteLine.jpg

The Masonite would have already been erected if I hadn't needed to make an unplanned trip to Home Depot to get the screws this project will require.

Getting late, time to get ready for bed since I'll need to go back to work on Friday.

Good Night - and have a Pleasant Tomorrow!
