Good morning everybody.

thanks for all of the kind remarks following my last post . My recovery is slowly moving in the right direction, but there have been minor setbacks. I am on oxygen.I see the cardiologist tomorrow.

Our son from Florida is here to help for a few days. He has a remote job with computers, and is able to do his work while here.

This picture proves I got to the train room since being in the hospital. At the moment, I could not stand up straight. Also, I lost a lot of weight.

Good to see your on your feet, and can still enjoy the hobby

Some hep, if you please. You who are internet savvy.

For some reason, I can not get into my other RR forum. https://www.modeltrainforum.com/

I can bring it up when not signed in, but as soon as I login, the screen goes blank:

It is quite vexing as I would like to see and reply to some posts there in which I sought help.

I suspect an inadvertent setting change or somesuch, but where and what?

I know this is not rteally the place, but if anyone has an idea, I'd be glad to see it. Thanks!
First off just a complete reboot of the lot just in case it is a simple glitch.
if Still acting up ask for a new password. As that is pretty simple to try.
otherwise ask if a moderator can advise if this is a known issue and can solve it.
Occasionaly a forum itself has a glitch, can you see if there have been updates when your not logged in,do you know anyone from the forum you speak to elsewhere who can see if there account is fine.
if push comes to shove you may be forced to set up a new account and then ask for help.Although you might then need a second email address as often forums reject the second use of the same email address, these simple ideas might help before you need to get more complicated.

Speaking of computers, the laptop I'm using has less than 4% clock battery left, and will soon crap out...I have almost 6 years of use out of this HP, so I cannot complain, and the new Dell will be here Friday. Believe it of not, the best deal for what I was looking for, 15.6", I-7 processor, 16 GB Ram. 500GB SSD card, aluminum case. Win 11, Dell direct had the best deal. I have everything I need backed up, and I can access much of what I do via phone or Fire Pad, if this pukes before the new one arrives.

Garry: Not for nothing, it's good to see you on your feet even for a short time.

Thanks for all of the kind remarks and words of encouragement. There are some very good people here and I appreciate it . Also, I received a PM from one of you who shared some of his own situation with me while encouraging me.

your friendship means a lot .I’m going to cardiologist tomorrow.

good night.

Good evening Shop Dwellers!

Mega-thanks for the button clicks and comments on the triple-trains photo: Jaz, Karl, Sherrell, Hughie, Steve-J, Chad, Guy, Christian, Garry, Patrick, OB-Ken, Rick, Willie, Tom-C51, Joe, Curt

Ken: That was the best chapter in the book. He actually demonstrates how you can operate a functional railroad in a small space. That chapter alone was worth the price of the book. I may still have my copy...I know I still have the Armstrong book, which covers the same thing in a broader fashion.

That is a great photo. South Brooklyn, eh? Nice!
Joe - appreciate the kind comment! It's definitely not Brooklyn the Capital of The World (LOL); South Brooklyn, OH is a suburb of Cleveland, the first distinct town the B&O's CL&W Sub right-of-way passes thru after exiting the South [RR West?] end of Clark Avenue Yard.

Steve - I suspect that your browser is not properly interpreting some code embedded in that website's "welcome" page. Have you tried a different browser (Edge, Chrome or Firefox) than the one you usually use? If not, see if you get the same result with one of them...

. . .
IBKen - Nice layout pic.
. . .
Thanks Hughie; your Jeffries Point structure (including the stairwell) looks pretty dam good too!

. . .
IBKen- Great layout shot.
. . .
Much appreciated Curt!

. . .
IBKen - Nice layout pic. and I like the tractor/trailer hiding in the background. Is that the very nice cabin car that you built a couple of years back?
. . .
Thanks Sherrell, your guess is correct - it's the B&O I-5d that I kitbashed and posted the thread on, mainly because I got tired of waiting to receive the two I had ordered from Spring Mills back in 2014.

One thing I've discovered since I installed these new high-powered LED tubes in my trainroom, is that it's much easier (and quicker) for me to get in-focus photos with my DSLR because of how they brighten the space. When I set my camera on the "aperture priority", I can capture in a split second what used to require the shutter to be open for ~20-30 seconds. So I was able to grab another photo from my layout this evening, albeit more mundane than last night's - after all, I can't have 3 trains in every photo 🙃.

Since Sherrell seems to like tractor/trailer rigs, I'll post a shot of the cement distributor facility where they can be seen more clearly. The green Mack tractor is from a Magnuson kit, got it long before Athearn came out with their own series of Mack 'B' and 'R' truck models.

The front-end loader is actually the shop "trackmobile", it pushes the hopper cars into- and out of the dump shed; much cheaper than hiring the railroad to do that same work! Hopefully Tom-O will see this since he seems to have a fondness for heavy equipment...

Tomorrow is the day I have to work onsite [yuk!], so I'll have to sign off earlier than usual in order to pack up my work laptop, fix a lunch, etc. It's one of the two 9-hour days (Mondays and Wednesdays) so I'll have maybe 20 minutes of free time tomorrow evening if I'm lucky[?]

Good Night - and have a Pleasant Tomorrow!

Can't you replace the battery? I don't know about Wintel laptops but there is usually a small lithium cell battery for that sort of thing. Probably soldered on. But shouldn't be hard to replace (?)

Not saying you don't need a new computer. New computers are always fun.
CMOS battery, usually looks like the battery for a car remote. If the battery is the one for the entire laptop, they are pretty inexpensive these days.
With that said, the new Windoze operating system requires, among other things, Intel 8th gen I series, AMD 2nd gen Zen, or equivalent processors.
If the laptop was built before 2018, chances are good it won’t support the new OS.

Good morning y'all. Looks like we're having a heat wave this morning. It's currently 54 and feels like 54. High today is mid 70. Ain't nothing like the weather in the Carolinas.

Flo- Coffee, please. Also I'd like a nice Ribeye with 2 scrambled eggs, hashbrowns, bacon, and go ahead and toss in a side of sausage today. Got some heavy lifting to do today and the protein boost will help.

McLeod- I am hoping to avoid the inevitable frustration and not set it aside to be forgotten. This building is a central component to my main downtown scene, so I kind of need to finish it. LOL

Willie- I am not dissuaded. I still plan to fully detail both each upper and lower segment as well as light each individually. Whether I continue this practice on future buildings is yet to be seen, but the first is definitely getting the works. My plan is to have a light in each shop, but also to have the top floor split into multiple sections to simulate a living area, bedroom, and bathroom. I'm trying for as much realism as possible. Whether that comes to fruition, well, time will tell. It's going to take a while to get there anyway as I foresee scratch-building furniture in my future.
I am looking forward to the train shed, I plan to make sure it is well insulated and climate controlled. I am also planning an LED lighting system to turn it into an operating theater when needed. LOL. We're making a similar move, 1000-1050 sq ft into about 1600, not counting the screened outdoor living space we will be adding after the nitpickers finish the code inspections.

Y'all have a blessed day. The coffee is ready and I gotta get moving. The truck ain't gonna drive itself.

Good morning all! Foggy and 38 heading up to mostly sunny and 68.

Had a short day at work yesterday. Came home and put up a new dusk to dawn light outside since the old one died. I work in the lighting and electrical department at the store, so I picked a good one from my shelves to take home.

Went and watched my grandson have a stellar night on the 8th grade basketball court last night. He scored 18 points and likely would have a lot more but they pulled out all the starters after his team got up by 30 points. The kid is a great player and spends most of his free time at home out shooting baskets. They had a couple tough losses to start the season, so I was happy to see him and his team have a great night.

Nothing much else to report. Gotta work the next 3 days and then we'll see what kind of trouble I can get into on my next day off Saturday. Hope you all have a great day!

Forgot to mention earlier. While I was out and about yesterday I popped into a nice little train shop here in Raleigh. It ran the gammut from N to O, with varying amounts for each scale. Was looking for some vehicles or detail components, but came up empty on what I wanted. I did however pick up a nice service station kit that will make a nice addition to Nathan's Crossroads. Looking forward to starting on it as well, but I don't have the space to get multiple kits going right now.

Y'all, the struggle is real. 🤣

Morning all,

Currently cloudy and 51° in Doo-Dah going for a high of 63°. Storms, some possibly severe, expected about mid afternoon.

An observation: Why would you program a car radio to have an am\pm setting when you don't display the am\pm? Factory radio in the truck when I reset the time has a 24 hour clock, meaning I had to advance 23 hours to set the clock back 1 hour. I didn't pay attention when I set it forward last spring. The radio only shows the time but no am\pm on the display otherwise. Wife's Equinox shows the am\pm (as long as its set to 24 hour clock). You know some engineer at GM got paid to work on that...

I’m not sure anybody should be driving if they can’t tell the difference between noon and midnight, although it might be useful in Antarctica, or some place like that…

Good Morning All. Mostly cloudy and 61° on the SFW estate. Thunderstorms this afternoon are still in the forecast.
Spent a good part of the morning and early afternoon, cutting and stacking firewood from the branches trimmed off the oak tree last week. Then I shredded some of the smaller stuff and leaves to provide mulch and soil conditioner for next spring;s garden.

Just a bowl of Corn Flakes and milk and a glass of apple juice this morning Francine. I see Flo in the kitchen helping Mel this morning.

Thanks for the likes and comments regarding the bus populating project; Steve J, Troy, Christian, Guy, Patrick, Sherrel, Hughie, Mikey, Curt, IB Ken, Tom. After viewing the results, the next bus is getting a driver only. I'll be yanking most of these out and using them in more visible situations.

Nothing new out in the train shed yesterday. I finished up the out and back switching run that I started Monday and then just ran other trains for almost an hour before coming in to fix supper. That run was to switch out the fertilizer distributor and the flour mill in Vernon. Just to vary things a bit, I ran it backwards this time so all of the moves were facing-point spurs. I used a pair of GP38-2's as power. Could have used just one since there were only three cars and a caboose, but I like to run everything in pairs.
IMG_8182.JPG

Note that these GP38-2's are the only EMD power ATSF owned that do not have dynamic brakes. 11 of them were acquired in the acquisition of the TP&W in 1984. These locos are Athearn blue box units with only minimal internal upgrades.
They came into town on the passing siding since they had to be out of the way of a manifest freight that came by first. Then the new cars and caboose were moved over to the main, a load of fertilizer for the distributor, a loaded hopper of wheat for the mill and an empty airslide covered hopper also for the flour mill.
IMG_8183.JPG

IMG_8185.JPG

IMG_8184.JPG

Had to remove the empty fertilizer hopper first since that tail track is a short one with room for only the engines and one car.
IMG_8188.JPG

Then it was over to the flour mill to remove the empty grain hopper and the full flour hopper.
IMG_8196.JPG

IMG_8198.JPG

At that point, all three cars and the engines made a run-around move back to the main and backed up to the caboose. At the same time, they pushed the three new cars down past the north siding switch. They then went back around to the south switch and returned to the siding after dropping off the removed cars and caboose on the main near the switch for the return trip.

To be continued tomorrow since I have run up against my picture limit for one post.

Guy - Regarding the neighbor, I only refuse money for something that I would do for free once...after that I'll take it. Usually no sense in arguing. At the same time, I only offer once when it's the other way around!
Hughie - I agree with Mikey that older plastic structures can almost always be upgraded with additional details and weathering.
Tom O - That is so great that you have a SIL who shares your modeling interest.
Sherrel - Outliving your 401 is both good and bad. Too bad that you didn't take that opportunity to buy the Tesla stock you posted about a couple of years ago. I've always stuck to safe ETF's instead of lucrative individual stocks, occasionally seeing what I thought might be sure picks (like Tesla and Moderna) skyrocket immediately afterward.
Curt - I have thought about using real dirt before but never attempted. Thanks for posting your experience so I can be prepared if I ever do.
Dave - Too bad that pine makes such lousy firewood except for a fire pit. I like the covered bridge.
Joe - The local (to me) Target has 26 check-out lanes and 8 self check-out registers. I rarely see more than two of the 26 manned with checkers.
Jesse - My next project is actually going to be adding figures to the inside of a bank. Big windows and lots of them.

Today is the Marine Corps birthday.
Gotta go and take care of some of my wife's needs right now. Everybody have a wonderful day and stay safe.

Steve - I suspect that your browser is not properly interpreting some code embedded in that website's "welcome" page. Have you tried a different browser (Edge, Chrome or Firefox) than the one you usually use? If not, see if you get the same result with one of them...

Thanks Ken, I tried Edge - - - exact same results. I first changed the password. Loads fine not logged in - enter PW and blank screen. Odd and annoying. Further suggestions?

Good Morning! Just 17F this cool morning.
Yesterday, I was walking on the thin ice of the beaver dam, checking to make sure it would carry my weight. The dog was walking on it last week. Looks like the wife and I will be up the creek come the weekend; on our skates. That's only if it don't snow, because I'm not scrapping no creek with a snow-shovel.

Willie - Gotta tell ya how much I enjoy your morning posts. Always lots of photos and interesting subjects. You're posts are a main reason that I keep coming back in for a coffee.
Did you split the floors on that bank? - I'm wondering if it would look kinda funny with figures in there with a cathedral type ceiling. Unnatural, don't you think.

IbKen - How do you get all those beautiful photos of railyards without there being a lot of power poles in the way! ;) I usually have problems with power poles competing to get in the frame. - Anyway, you take wonderful photos of a great layout.

Joe - Even if the photos you post arn't your own, they are indeed wonderful photos. I like how you find them with good scenery and often great action.

I'm nearly outta photos without showing repeats; so I suppose I'd better get busy if I want to keep coming in. There is this one, though.
Baggage trolleys that were lined up in Jasper last month. I wanted to take more photos while I was there, but, I was being watched suspiciously by a character I didn't trust, at the time. So, I went on my way.
JasperStation_10-18-2021.jpg

Well folks, I'm going to get on with things. The dog needs walking, right off the top. Then I'll see what the rest of the day brings.
Have a good one!
