Good morning all! Slept in till 6:30 this morning, thanks to the time change. Woulda been 7:30 otherwise as you know. Sunny and 41, heading up sunny and 65 for the day. The trees all around are looking really pretty, although they're starting to dump a lot of that pretty into my yard.

Off today and tomorrow. First time I've had two days off in a row in a month or so. Hoping to get some rest but still accomplish a few things around here while the weather is still nice.

Hope you all have a great day!
OB Ken

Greetings all,

Interesting day yesterday. I found out Friday from my golf buddy who also is a model RRer that there is a train show this weekend! At the Canterbury Park SW of Minneapolis. So seeing as how I had to get up early and by myself anyway, as my daughter had requested a ride to the airport (she is flying to Wash DC for the week), I had a nice breaky and then went to the show.

Bought an Atlas Masterline Silver loco: an Alco S-2 in MILW orange and white. $60. It looked new with good packaging and docs, but when asked, vendor said it had come in as part of a "collection." A euphemism, no doubt. Took it to the HO group who had a rather nice display tracks going and they were kind enough to trial it for me. Box said DCC with ESU Loksound (?), but would not run on DCC. Ran fine on DC, but I need DCC, right? Took it back to vendor who offered me $10 back to keep it. At $50 I am hoping it is worth some TLC to get it up and running. I've been wanting a MILW loco, so some attachment there.

But this is the weekend I have to get leaves up and onto the rose bushes to mulch them for the hard winter that's coming. So did not get much time to work on it. But I did open the shell - - sure enough, no decoder. Checked the Digitrax website for their recommended decoder recommendation. I actually had that one on hand I had bought for a Bachmann replacement which I have never accomplished. Am I the only one who buys hobby stuff for projects that don't get done - - - for a while?

Might get some time to further the project today, but those leaves must get on the roses after church.

Socially: Golf was fun - - the golf buddies pizza night turned out very well. The couples stayed much later than I had thought they would, usually a good sign. I showed my layout to date. Good night, but late for a guy with a 0700 reveille time!

Last night youngest dau new BF came to dinner to meet us for first time. Nice guy, I liked him. Wife made CHicken Vesuvio and I made a Caesar salad. ANother nice evening. But for a pair of introverts, we are tapped out on this whole people thing. Wife would really love to skip church, but she loves All Saints Day. Brunch with the church group at the VFW and then home. I will make her relax whilst I gather in the leaves.

Hopefully today or Monday I'll post some pics of the Loco and poll for advice.

Totally guilty I have wads of stuff awaiting me to have the time or the placement on the layout, still a new boxed item retains value which is more than it does in the bank, the other half is always say it’s our retirement fund :)

So my son and gkids came over Saturday. And as usual they wanted to play with the layout. The oldest is very into it and runs trains very well. We had been in the basement maybe an hour when he had his dad ask if he could work with me on the layout. So I have a partner now. My son who is a film maker got an idea for a movie and will want to use my layout. We will see how this works out.

One of the docs I follow explained all of those inflammatory aches and pains: Your body fights viruses with inflammation... A fever, your body is fighting something off... add in muscle aches... still fighting... etc
Makes perfect sense...OTOH, Arthritis by nature is Inflammatory, which is why I take a daily anti-inflammatory once daily. That's why I knew the booster had caused a reaction.

Morning all,

Not much going on yet. Been for groceries and the Sunday load of towels are now in the dryer. Laundry room is in the basement, and the wife can't go down the stars as her knees are worse than mine. So I do the bulk of the laundry. That's why she wants a smaller house with an upstairs laundry.

Still going to try to get to the train show later.

Good morning, Happy Sunday! Today will be sunny, and a tad milder.

Feeling a little better this morning, so perhaps the reaction is over. Might be a good day to spend some serious time in the basement working on the model railroad. I did remember to order a bulk pack of Kadee #153-25 couplers, [Scale Head, short centerset shank], I like the appearance, and use them for kit builds and replacing Accumate couplers found on Atlas cars and engines. I noted that bulk packs of Kadee # 148 are out of stock at all the usual suppliers. (I find standard sized Kadee work better in general, even if they do't look as good). Also ordered another Tangent N7 Cabin, this one in NYC, plus a new Tangent PC Gondola.

Willie: The Proto Covered Hopper looks awesome. Wish I had your patience.

Afternoon All,

Started out with some chores then in the train room I cleaned the re-ballasted track and tested without issue this time :). After that I glued down a dirt base (WS) around the mine as a base coat for additional scenery. Finally I painted "grease & oil" on the 2 interchange tracks and the last section of the mainline. The high today is 65F with clear skies. It's supposed to continue to warm into the low 80's by the end of the week. Most likely no train time tomorrow since I have to be at the book fair at 1200 to help pack up.

Troy- Have fun. I haven't been on a plane since the summer of 1995 and don't miss it.

Willie- Great job on the hopper.

Mike- That's great news about you're oldest grandson's interest.

I hope everyone has a good night.

Holy Mackeral.....! I think I became my Grandfather!!! I was changing the time on a wall hung clock in the kitchen area and the nail holding the clock up fell into a planter below. Good luck finding the nail. So in the foot steps of Grandfather I made a new "nail" out of a paper clip. I bent the clip to form two hooks, one to place into the hole in the wall and the other to hold the clock.

My Grandfather in his later years, lived on the second floor of his flat and the trip down to his workshop would of been too taxing on him so he would of did just what I did with the paper clip. Now off to the kitchen and re-hang the clock.

Just plain old German craftsmanship? Or, just plain being too lazy to walk downstairs to my workshop???

Good Afternoon all! No a bad day weather wise 69 and sunny. I am currently in quarantine. I got tested this morning and now need to wait 48 to 72 hours for the results. I think it's a false alarm but better safe than sorry.

Troy - I drove up waved through the fence and drove the 6 hours home. That was you in the plum color suit? You waved back.

I did a little more on the Jefferies Point. I'm getting to the fine details, like building N scale stairs. I still need to put on the shingles and chimneys.

Made it to Dallas. Stood waving from the Slylink waiting area. Not sure if Willie's is that direction... But I waved.

Somehow, I expected more Ewings in Dallas... sadly disappointed by the lack of JRs and Bobbys

Judging from the shadows of the planes, you were facing north, the right direction. I waved from home many times today. Did you see me? I thought that I saw Hughie passing in between.
Ewings don't live here any more. Southfork Ranch was sold and the house/barns were turned into an event center. The Ewings bought a bigger spread further west in Texas. The rest of the ranch to the north and east still exists, in this photo it has just been plowed To the south it is now being developed as an industrial park. To the east is a residential development. I haven't been by there in about 15 years.
