When we were in Florida in April, I was looking for Mayo in the grocery store and saw the Hellmans, and had to smile, as it had been almost 20 years since I had seen it. I didn't buy it though as we were looking for Asian/Japanese style mayo.

When we were in Florida in April, I was looking for Mayo in the grocery store and saw the Hellmans, and had to smile, as it had been almost 20 years since I had seen it. I didn't buy it though as we were looking for Asian/Japanese style mayo.

Hope everyone is doing well.....just checking in it's been a while. I have made a job/career change as of March 5th and well it seems it is for the better thus far. Anyways I have been lurking a bit when I can. I have been working like mad and any spare time I get I go fishing to get the downtime in.
My cousin's 22 year old has been going fishing with me. He caught his first Lake Trout 2 weeks ago on Lake Champlain. I am rubbing off him. He loves to fish and loves to eat fish too! I caught my large mouth bass over 5lbs this season last weekend. It was 5 pounds 6.5 ounces. Yup my scale is precise. The weather has been really nuts all over warm one day cool the next rain wind I mean it needs to settle down. LOL no matter rain or shine I am out there. Still able to catch them!

So far we have caught a lot of lakers, large mouth bass and small mouth bass. I have caught a mess of perch too. Will be going after walleye this coming weekend. I mostly fish Lake Champlain. I used to fish Lake George but the people on that lake are nuts with their boat driving. They think if they can drive a car they know how to drive a boat....um no they don't and have noooo knowledge of the laws of navigating the waters.
Anyhow ya'll take it easy will check back in later on.

Happy Monday evening, Shop Dwellers! Why "happy"? Because Monday is almost over! Anywho... It's 55*F and cloudy with a 4mph SW breeze at my central MD property. Thanks everybody who shared "likes" or comments on my Sunday post. (Don't have time to list out names tonight...but you know who you are!)
Patrick - I like the new avatar!
Terry/GT/Joe - I do appreciate the suggestions on the layout drape cloth. So far, I'm leaning toward Terry's suggestion of fastening hex nuts to the bottom corners. I certainly would have preferred GT's higher-quality approach (hem along the bottom, filled with weight), but given my shortage of both ca$h and time, I'm going to have to defer on that. Plus, I don't know if this landscape cloth is really suitable for sewing. Joe - That's interesting (but I guess not surprising) about the JoAnne employees making the crooked cuts, maybe I made the right call after all? BTW - I'm getting more proficient with measuring and cutting the cloth now as I gain experience with that!

Since Mondays are "full" workdays for me, I didn't really get much time in the trainroom. However, I did manage to measure, cut and hang another 5ft section of the cloth within 20 minutes. Every little bit of progress helps...!

Chad- I totally get that, as I lived in South Jersey for 40+ years & I’ve lived in Wisconsin for almost 9 years. There’s foods from back home that I can’t get here(Jersey tomatoes, cannolis, cheesesteaks, porkroll, scrapple & Tastykakes), while you can’t get things like cheese curds, Spotted Cow(or any other New Glarus beer), brat patties(which I prefer over beef burgers), flavored milk(besides choc/strawberry), giant cream puffs & some other random Upper Midwest fare.Just FYI, the same Mayo is sold west of the Rockies as "Best Food".

Morning all,
Currently 66° with some light drizzle. We have rain in the forecast this morning with some possible severe storms this evening. We do have some lighting storms coming at us presently, but well below severe standards. High today supposed to be the low 80's.
Dukes is definitely a southern\east coast thing. I watch cooking shows where they talk about it, but I actually prefer Miracle Whip to mayonnaise. I often order sandwiches (think Wendy's spicy chicken) without mayo, where as the wife has it on brats...ewwwww.
IBKen: I couldn't find my old Homer avatar, so I made this one work. I had a vendor need a new port opened in our firewall so I spent some time getting that to work. Everyday it seems I learn more and more on our firewalls. Hopefully we're not changing them anytime soon, although our email filter was a pretty quick upgrade.

Good Morning All, once again from beautiful downtown Fredericksburg TX. It's cloudy and 72° here. Back home it looks like light rain and 71°. Leaving out late this morning headed to San Antonio to spend the evening with my son and his wife. We'll be making a stop along the way at yet another winery/vineyard about 12 miles out of town. Lunch? who knows whether we'll eat here before leaving, or just order a cheese platter at the winery. or stop elsewhere! Depends on the mood of my copilot.
As usual, our plans remained flexible. Yesterday we only spent about 45 minutes walking around town to look at mostly historical structures generally built about 150 years ago. Then we headed east of town to the Wildseed Farms. A lot of fields full of wildflowers, vineyards and wildflower gardens. It was also a nursery selling loads of outdoor plants. They also have a wine tasting room where we enjoyed a couple of glasses and a giant German pretzel. They have no winery there, but contract their grapes out to someone locally to make their wine.
We then returned to town for lunch at the Sunset Grill, a local renowned eatery. It's a "down home" cafe with waitresses as gruff (but pleasant) as Francine and Flo here! Food was excellent, their crab puppies were as great as they sound, they're bigger than golf balls. After a stop back at the hotel for a nap, we headed east again to the Signor Vineyard for another wine tasting session. Really nice place, but all four of their wines were a bit too sweet for my taste. Back to town and another short walk to some chocolate store. For supper instead of being adventurous, we walked directly across the street to a Mexican restaurant, Mamacita's. Excellent drinks and service, just average food though. Everything could have used a little more spice, as we're Texans and like our Mexican cuisine a bit on the spicy side.
Today's winery stop on the way to San Antonio is the Fat Ass Ranch & Winery. Late afternoon is open while our hosts are still working. The Texas Transportation Museum is now only open on weekends due to the lack of volunteers to staff the place. Maybe we'll go to the Aquarium there instead.
I've been keeping up with you guys, but haven't really had time to post too many responses. I do wish to thank everyone who posted well wishes for our journey, and the prayers for my brother's health.
Tom O- Continue to have a safe journey to Austin. I'll wave as we zip by on TX130.

Greetings all,
Not much to report, fairly nice day yesterday. After dinner and the finishing of a mini-series we had engaged upon (a weird one, to be sure). snuck away to finish the assembly of my Walthers track bumpers. Twelve in the set, and broke 3 of the vertical supports! Teensy, weensy plastic bits. Tempted to try some work today, and may yet, but preps for the long weekend trip take priority.
WILLIE: LOved hearing about your trip through German Hill Country. I had a friend in high school whose grandfather had a farm/ranch near Junction and went down to help three summers (every city-kid ought have the experience of tossing calves). Loved his stories, especially how he would go up to the Nazi POW camps near them to converse 'auf Deutsch" with the prisoners. And how his wife was sure he would be shot for it!
LOved the "Mail Call" photos of the rolling stock via ebay - - nice scores there. Have solemnly vowed: no new rolling stock until the yard is totally up and running!

PS: As a member of the VFW, and personally knowing five men who lost their lives on active service, I ask you Americans to pause this weekend to remember those whose service cost them everything and that each and every one left a big hole in a family. S A L U T E ! ! ! !

Summer has finally decided to show it's self; It reached 91F - that's 32.7C and it brought out all the ladies in shorts and swimsuit coverups yesterday -- 86F/30C predicted today with scattered clouds.
A welcome sight for these old eyes, for sure!
I just spoke to KARL. He said that he had just been busy and had not taken the time to post.
He said that BUD was not out of the woods, but they would bring him home and see if they can get him to eat a little. I am going to wear out my index card on BUD a little more! I sure hope he will recover.
I am really enjoying all the travel stories from TomO, Willie, Steve, and others.
Of course, If I am ever able to return to those areas again - I will forget much of what I have been reading: I would make a note of the eatery's but then I would forget where I placed the notes?

Patrick- Mayo on brats would be considered sacrilege up here, where just aboot every grocery store had a brat barn, for organizations to host fundraisers. Our local club is doing one this week at Festival Foods.

Good Afternoon Everyone on this great Forum. Sunny and windy with temperatures in the low 80's here in this part of Wisconsin.
Been hiding for awhile until I can report on my model railroad experiences from my layout and any progress on work completed on the layout. I still use a walker of some type and can walk with one very well, but without the support I'll fall on my backside. It's funny that I still do not have any balance, but great leg strength. A the cabin I'll practice walking along the deck's railing without any other support and see what happens. Using a walker is getting old and I wish I could just walk on my two feet. Going to the cabin soon and I'll report back,
MikeinHubCity: It's funny you mentioned Spotted Cow beer. When my nephew comes from California we need to have Spotted Cow in the refrigerator for him and his sister from Arizona. If they can, they will carry some home. Mike have you ever tried the brats from Hoff's on highway 49 in Brownsville, Wisconsin? Great taste and they have a great selection of different types of sausage. Friday's are the cook out days in Hoff's parking lot with usually brats or hamburgers.
I am 100% German or Prussian to be exact and during WWII there was a German prisoner of war camp at the site of now Mitchell Field in Milwaukee. My grandparents found out that we had German relatives at the prison camp and my grandparents would pack a summer lunch with cold beer and would meet up with my German relatives on summer Sundays. My grandparents could speak excellent German. There were picnic tables for the families to reunite and there were no concerns that any German prisoners would escape since they liked being in Milwaukee and the treatment they received. After the war, ended many of the former prisoners returned to live in Milwaukee and worked at the many machine shops and manufacturing plants in Milwaukee.
Visits were limited to one hour, but usually lasted longer, and there were stories of prisoners walking to Milwaukee's local bars to get some good Milwaukee Beer and food and then returning to the camp. This was not an approved practice, but did happen.
There were many prisoner of war camps throught southeastern Wisconsin.
Mike: We been married for 46 years! Cathy was just 18 when we married and I was 25. On our honeymoon, in several states they would not serve her alcohol, but would hand me her drink so I could pass it to her.
IronBeltKen: I used clothes pins the type with the springs and hot glued them to the fascia to hold the black sheeting around my layout. Placement isn't critical since the clothes pins could hold the cloth at different heights.
