Well, howdy there internet peeps and the VH-1 generation....

I'm in a retro mood today

In other news, finished the pork at about 8:40ish last night. Let it rest for about 40 minutes. Had it pulled and in the fridge by 10p

Party commences once the wife rises and says to start.

Have a great Sunday! ;)

New game... instead of "Name that Tune" in one note, Kuso will give us one thought and we have to figure out what he meant.

Back to the party: Made the first run of several to the clubhouse. Pork is in the crockpot slowly warming. BBQ baked beans are mixed and in the fridge, ready to bake. Drink station is set up.

The clubhouse committee changed this year, and looks like they stopped supplying trash bags. Fortunately, I have the big ones at home.

Good morning from my part of So. Central Wisconsin. 81f/27c now heading to 94f/34c with the heat indices about 110f/43c. Humidity now is 83% with the dew point at 73f degrees and the saving grace of the wind blowing at 13mph gusting to 25. Not a cloud in the sky and just a touch of the Canadian fires smoke haze. Tomorrow should be close to the same!

The south facing deck is normally where I would be right now but the winds are blocked. So I’ve been on the front porch for almost 2 hours already. I skipped the walk at 6 and will walk in AC comfort on the machine that goes nowhere sometime this morning. Since 5:10 this morning I have seen no walkers, dogs pulling their owners or bikers. Normally on Sunday morning I’d have seen half the neighbors

Yesterday I went north of Green Bay to New Franken, Wi. for a OPS session which is in Door County. Supposedly one of the prettiest counties in the USA there are lots of summertime tourists. The 2 hour 35 minute trip was uneventful with traffic on our drive pretty clear. The guys who drove up from the Milwaukee area ran into the Indy car race traffic heading to Elkhart Lake but said it was slow only for about 15 miles. Their traffic heading home though was bumper to bumper traffic in the EL area into Milwaukee.

This OPS session was the beta run before sessions start in earnest in September. Currently a plywood pacific on 3 levels of operating fun with all track work in. I heard various comments about how long the mainline was but I think somewhere around 1200’ would be accurate. The layout is wired for signals but only an experimental segment were installed. He will be adding them soon as he wanted a good full OPS session in 1st. All wiring is done so basically plug and play for the install. He is scratch building them. A few issues but mainly some dirty track or locomotive wheels. My engineer and I ran into 2 difficult switches that we informed the owner. I asked for some paper to write it down, he pulls up his smart phone and typed it into notes! No paper needed. One switch had a gap closed and a disconnected power wire and the other the points would not close tightly enough. The BN River division models the LaCrosse to Prairie du Chein area along the Mississippi River 1975 to 85 which brings him memories of his youth. It was a good time. I met Luke Lemmons who lives in the Green Bay Area and in the July issue of RMC has an article as to how he built his Soo Line weed sprayer train. We have been FB friends and I followed the build on FB that he finished just about 6 weeks ago. I had to ask how it got in the magazine so quickly and he said Otto was also following FB and thought it be a great article.

Oh yeah, so much for promises! I’ll just leave that there…

Enjoy your day

Good Morning All. Clear and 75° here on the SFW estate. No change to the hot & dry forecast, except hotter towards the end of next week. Nothing new about that.

Spent part of the day yesterday mowing, nothing new about that either. Also some weedeating around the pool and garden maintenance. Did not need to pick veggies yesterday, but I'll need to do it today. Later I cleaned out and reorganized the canned food storage closet, anticipating more besides the 8 pints shown yesterday. Still have Tomatoes from 2023 in there.
Hoping to get at least one of the shade umbrellas up today, since the pool water temperature has risen to 87°. I miss the shade provided by the trees that were destroyed by the tornado last year. What's left hasn't filled in real well yet.
A couple of loads of laundry after church today, and I am waiting until Tuesday for the Tomato canning. Tomorrow is a visit to the cardiologist. I still have about 1.25 acres left to mow on this cycle, some today, some tomorrow afternoon. With no rain in the foreseeable future, I won't be mowing much after next week. Still haunting me on the to do list is changing the oil in the Accura. Not pressing because we don't use it much and it's only 180 miles past due.

Out in the train shed yesterday, I once again just ran trains. Did the local that I set up Friday and then ran a few from end to end before setting up another local to service 8 industries in Graham. Two small grain elevators, a cannery, a pallet manufacturer, paper products warehouse, John Deere dealer, appliance distributor and a tannery. The tannery only gets switched out about every 4th local to that town, not too busy. Haven't looked for any pictures of the movie-making equipment to provide samples for me to paint the stuff that I assembled the other day.

Karl - I'm facing the same kind of medical visits for a few weeks also.
Marlin - Wildfires freak me out more than tornadoes! I water a 40' band weekly around the house all summer long.

Haven't had a Twinkie in over 60 years!

Everybody have a super Sunday.

Good morning,

Steamy 73f headed for 92. Calm winds, had 39 species of birds here in one hours time...

Twinkies? I still eat them. I buy them a couple times a month.

Since retirement I do suppers every other week. As a bachelor, I pretty much survived on rice (Jasmin, basmati, or brown), canned vegetables (spinach, corn, green beans), Colby cheese, and bacon.

Been married 30 years, but still have the yearning to fall back into that rut.

Be thankful today,

Dave LASM

We're in the quiet before the storm

Party commences once the wife rises and says to start.

I'm going back to videos.

I was crazy about her in the 80s and 90s. I have about a dozen of her albums on CD and iTunes.

We had about 1.5" of rain over the last 48 hours. It never hit 60 degrees in that time frame either. That's going to be about all the rain we get for a long time. Our storms, for the most part, come off the northern Pacific (Alaska), so they're not like your thunder boomer flash flooding types you get in the midwest & south. We get the heavy 2" in 24hr storms from the Pineapple Express (southern Pacific/Hawaii) also.

I had breakfast yesterday with a friend who had been both a customer (10 years) and a co-worker (5 years). He's about 4 months older than me and seriously needs to start taking care of himself. He's still working due to a bad divorce about 10 years ago, but it's taking a toll on him. It was good to see him and at least he acknowledged he needed to start changing his lifestyle and lose 40-50 pounds.

I went to the gym after breakfast. I pulled a groin muscle on the squat rack a couple of weeks ago and I've been taking it easy on the legs so it can heal. It's amazing how slow your body heals as you get older.

After the gym and a shower I decided that since it wasn't nice enough to be outside I would do some train stuff. I cleaned the track, then did 2 operating sessions. My wife came in and made a comment about the smile on my face. I was having fun. One thing I did notice is that the factory couplers, from all the different manufacturers, don't like to work well together. It actually got me thinking about upgrading all the cars to Kadees. Changing couplers on the cars is easy, but the engines are going to be difficult with all the fragile little parts.

It's supposed to hit 70 today and maybe low 80's next week. Humidity, for the most part, stays very comfortable between 25%-30%.

Good morning all!

Already 84F heading up to 91F. looks like the heat will be around most of the week.

Not much planned for today other than a dip in the pool later. Got most everything done yesterday.

Been pretty quiet in my world lately, hope it continues.

Have a safe day everyone!

I have a bunch of her German albums. I did a Nena day a few times on Apple Music a while back. It was interesting. A lot of later stuff I’d not heard of.
One of my favorites is “Das alte Lied”.

…
Die Japaner fotografieren
Und die ganze Welt singt mit
Das alte Lied

That’s the only part I have memorized. Probably because I thought the line „Die Japaner fotografieren“ was funny.
