we will ad more seating for shure. will be a great weekend. lets go Porsche and Mercedes. btw there will also be 2 ford mustangs in the field ;)
36? OMG! I'm melting at 30. You should add some fans to that nice outdoor setting!

Good morning from hot Wisconsin. Already 80f degrees going to 94 with the heat indices indicating 105+ this afternoon.

Pools, love them but in Wisconsin unless they are enclosed the season is generally short for an inground. Great for a day like today though. There is no pool at this house.

Leaving in 50 minutes for an OPS session 2hours 35 min away or 1 hour farther out than normal. The owner is part of the layout groups I belong to and he’s northwest of Green Bay in Door County. Because we drive by GB it’s mandatory we make a stop at Enginehouse Services so add another 60 minutes for shopping. The session starts at 1 until??? There are 12 of us plus the owner from many different parts of Wisconsin and the UP. 5 hours round trip for 4-5 hour session

Terry just asked me if we knew Elkhart Lake was having races this weekend. Nope but it may impact our drive up. Oh boy, Indy car weekend as I just looked!

Enjoy the day

We had our usual "liquid sunshine." Dripping rain, short break, and more dripping rain yesterday for about .25" total. We probably won't make it to 60 today, but maybe get .5" total, then dry and back up into the high 70's and 80's for the next week.

We like to say Summer starts here July 5 when the rain usually stops for 6 weeks, but it seems to have started much earlier this year.

Well, howdy there internet peeps and those heading to the races, It's Troy again...

Yesterday my wife got to torture a zucchini...

As for me, this morning was fire up the grill day. Got the fireboard control panel with fan going

Good morning,

A cool 62, windy, sunny morn in MN, headed for 92.

Started on a new batch of trees yesterday, will be adding more today and breaking in the new 0-6-0.

Willy- I loved mowing with the tractor. When we farmed, I used a 1948 model B JD with a trailer type brush cutter. I would back it into the woods to make openings, surprisingly I did not get a flat.

Terry- I have resisted the upgrade. Even just doing the recommended updates on 10, I always end up with new unwanted junk, some of which I have to work to disable.

Pools- private ones are probably fine. I was the pool man at a motel several years back, fished out plenty of turds.

I have been tempted to jump into one of our ponds, but I would hate to disturb the snappers

Tom- I hope your enjoy the op session! The traffic challenge would be intimidating to me

Be safe all--

Dave LASM

Good Morning All. Clear and 76°. Nothing new on the weather scene. High today in the mid-90's, that's 35°C for some of you.

Busy day yesterday as I spent the morning canning the first major harvesting of the Green Beans. I had 9 pints total, but only 8 jars fit in my pressure canner so the 9th went for supper.
1750510055830.jpeg

All 8 were successfully sealed. The rings will be removed this morning and into the cabinet they will go.. I'll wait until tomorrow to do the Tomatoes while I catch up on mowing today.
Other activities yesterday included unloading and setting up the battery powered push mower that I bought Thursday. Worked well as expected. First use was around the garden itself where I cannot get into with the tractor-mower. I only have a 40" aisle between the fence and garden itself. The garden location itself is still a temporary location while I wait out the Fusarium wilt, that unfortunately infected the old location. It presumably came in on infected plants and I have to wait five years for the soil to disinfect itself. The old location was successful for 39 years, although signs of the fungus wilt started to show up around year 36. My main issue with the current location besides cramped quarters, is that Bermuda Grass is encroaching on two sides. I expect to restart using the old location next Spring, starting with veggies that aren't affected by the wilt.
Out in the train shed yesterday, I mostly switched out cars at a lot of industries. I sent a local to Charlottesville and switched out 5 of the 7 industries there. Then I ran a few manifest freights from layout end to the other end, then made another local run to Vernon. There I switched out all 7 industrial locations there. Before departing for the pool, I made up another local for Rycon Township with loads or empties for all 5 industries there. Those will be switched next.
I'm still contemplating my next project on the layout. It will be a mini-scene that will make use of the contents of a pair of identical sprues from two different Preiser kits of 120 unpainted figures that I purchased 20+ years ago. Here's a sneak preview of what I already started.

These need paint next after I find some pictures to determine the right colors. While I have an idea of how they will be utilized, I haven't determined the exact location of the upcoming mini-scene yet.

Marlin - Hope that the fires don't affect you. I am envisioning the scope of them by comparing the size to the 4,500 acre farm/ranch across the road from me. That man's plot of land is about 3.5 miles x 2 miles.
Terry - Good news for you. I always hated layoffs at work, but for a different reason. I was the one who had to tell the individual workers that we didn't need them any more. I saw a lot of crying. Later on during my last 7-8 years with the company, that responsibility was transferred to HR. I distinctly remember one older lady in her late 60's who went back to her work area and picked up a purse full of scrap aluminum to take home. I looked the other way.
Deacon - Congratulations on 41 years. We will hit 53 in September. Seems like only yesterday!
David - Enjoy the trip. Don't get carried away by the Scottish lassies.

Everyone have a great Saturday and a wonderful weekend.

I cook at 138F. I didn't have it in there long enough this time at 2.5 hours. Maybe another hour might have been better. Last time I did this, it came out very soft with a first bite chew (if that makes sense - not stew meat). This time was a little bit more chewy.

I cook my ribeyes at this temp as well, but only for 1.5 hours. Family doesn't like it moo-ing still.

Rib roast - same temp but for 6 hours.
That’s a higher temp than I would use. I normally cook beef from 130-133. Usually more 133 as the wife doesn’t quite understand that red/pink doesn’t mean raw. My strip and rib eye for a thick cut is around 90 min.

But 138f works too.

I’ve never done flank that way so was wondering.

I don’t think Switzerland has quite the humidity you do. I know Bavaria didn’t, when I lived there.

As a comparison the high at my house the other day was 40C but it was dry. So you felt it but it wasn’t miserable. Yesterday I was out working in the yard and it was somewhere around 33C and bright sun but with a breeze so it didn’t feel bad. High yesterday was 37C but with breeze. Yes it’s hot. But being dry, as I said, it’s not unbearable. You feel the heat but it’s not internalized.

A cold front came through (which is why the breeze) and right. Is at 9:30am it’s around 17C with high I think in the mid 20C and tomorrow high around 20C and getting hot again starting Monday.

I’m off in a moment on my morning walk. Much nicer at 17C than the 33C it was yesterday.

It was already 86°F at 0900 this morning. When I rose at 0630, it was 81°F. The dewpoint is currently 77°F soupy degrees.

I turned on the whole house A/C at 0900 for the first time this year. Now at a comfortable 78°F indoors.

The only thing I'm doing outside today is opening the front door to get the mail out of the box.

Good morning (almost afternoon) gang!

Sunny and 84° , heading to a high of 87°. Finally made it down the basement again, gonna work on my station kit today and catch up on my emails. No doctors or nurses or PT people til Monday (Yeah!) How are you supposed to heal when they want you hare or there darn near every day so they can poke & prod you?? It's madness I tell you!!

Hesse never had this humidity either. Wiesbaden always stayed very comfortable in the summer months.

Good morning, all! Today's temps, oh well it's Houston. Glad to see some of you are sharing the sun's warmth with me. Ah but wait, M,T,W and T 80% chance of rain each day.

I have a portable, questionable as it weighs 540 lbs. generator. 18,000 watt with a surge of 27,000 watt. About mid month I start it up and run for 10 to 15 minutes. Two months ago, we lost power, so I started the gen flipped the interlock and nothing. The engine was running, but the generator wasn't making power. After much research I found that it's possible for a generator to lose magnetism. Causes, not run in a long time, run unloaded, shut down by turning off the fuel, and just being old. I found a few sites and videos showing how to teardown a generator, check the rotor, check the stator, check connections and a number of other things. One site said plug an electric drill into the generator, start the generator, and with the drill in forward turn the drill chuck backwards by hand. I thought, okay, who's pulling whose leg here. Gang, I'm here to tell you, the second reverse twist of the chuck the drill took off in forward. Multimeter showed 120v and the gen's meter showed full output 240v. I'm not sure how much money that little trick saved.

David - Have a good trip. Don't hurt yourself doing the Red House Reel down at the pub. (My favorite version is Jimmy Shand)
Deacon - Congratulations. 41 years, not many make it that far.
Marlin - I was concerned when I saw Redmond, as the son lives in Bend.

Yeah but the Bavarians always bitched and moaned about it getting 30C.

I told them to come to Utah in the summer.

Because of the cold front it’s 65-66F right now at my house in Utah and breezy high full hazy sun. I’m off for my walk, finally. Had to use the facilities and talk to the wife for a while before I could get going.

We had 6’ + tall thistle everywhere (our yard is not yet in) and I cut them all down yesterday except for a handful on the back slope. Didn’t want to hike up the back slope and have the battery die. I ordered some pruning gloves with the gauntlet forearms yesterday from Amazon. They should be here today and I’ll get the thistle picked up and in the green bin. And I’ll get a battery of normal weedwhacker (with the “string”) to get the grasses and small weeds and “bush” in the back. I used the bladed brush attachment for the thistle yesterday. Some of them were 3” or more across.

I get one battery worth done after my walk and sometimes another battery worth in the evening when the direct sun is below the mountains.

Family is agitating for me to get the TV installed. We’ve not had the TV since we moved in in Feb.

Lots on the computer to do today. Keep for my “secure programming” course next week, more of the “iOS lead essentials” self paced course, and some work on my side gig.

No rest for the weary.

Off for my 3.22 mile brisk walk.

We have 92f right now in east central Minnesota dewpoint is 73.

I am writing from our covered porch, the steady strong breeze makes it bearable.

We have central air but I would rather be outside.
