well, howdy there internet people, and those with Blood Pressure!

It's Troy again...

Looks like it will be raining for a while in the Fort today:

And that's the first wave of it. Moving to the NE from here. And the stuff hitting Patrick's area should be here this evening.

Willie: Yep, she's got 5-gallon buckets for the zucchini. She had used the Orange Planters with the reservoirs for water underneath before. The roots could grow down into the water section which help alleviate some of the constriction of the smaller container...

She is facing a catch 22. She loves our condo community for it's wooded walking trails, and ease of maintenance. BUT she wants to grow vegetable. We just don't have the room for it. The front yard is community use and highly regulated. And the patio would have to be ripped up, and even then, the building and privacy fence block the sun too much for more than 6 hours of direct sun.

She's going to have to make a decision. Abandon all but the smallest plants, or sell and purchase a house with a yard suitable for a garden.

The dog was an angel for the groomer yesterday. The wife is happy to have a clean and fresh smelling dog again. She booked a return in 6 weeks and I didn't say a thing. Wouldn't have done any good anyways. I have nothing planned for the day other than getting poked for some semi-annual blood work.

Willie - I really wish I had more land to farm. Like you, I really enjoy getting my hands in the dirt and I could spend hours out there. I have genetic familial high BP, from my dad's side, and high cholesterol, from my mom's. I'm on the lowest dose of Lisinopril and Rosuvastatin as more of a prophylactic than anything else. It doesn't matter how well i eat or how physically active I am.

Good morning folks, 73 here, cloudy, rain possible and getting into the upper 80s. Honestly, what else can we expect, it is Arkansas in June. Going into work around lunch time, then church tonight where I will have the door security. And my idea of gardening is hitting a farmer's market or just leaving the doors on the car unlocked at church! 😁

Good morning all!

Currently a very cloudy overcast 73F/ Looking at the radar, we have a big batch of rain heading our way.
Hopefully it will be the 7-8 hr. event they are predicting. We really need it. As I have posted previously, most
of the stormy weather this year has skirted around us.

Yesterday the train room was frustrating to say the least. Seems like everything I did took much longer that it should.
I was trying to fit more rock castings and nothing was looking right or had a good fit. I ended up getting frustrated
and finally had to walk away. We shall try again later today to make some progress.

Nothing else much going on.

Have a safe day everyone!

Good morning from the Cloudy, Murky Jersey Shore. Currently 74 °, cloudy with fog and drizzle. Predicting 85°, so we may have the A/C turn itself on. The sun made a brief appearance around 6 yesterday afternoon, for about a half hour before disappearing behind the clouds.

Genetic familial high BP - That's probably what I have but I never knew that it had a name!
I refuse to take statins and my cholesterol level is in the acceptable range. My doctor really wants me to take them despite my objections though. He prescribes them every time I visit, and I cancel them with the mail-order pharmacy. I have given them two tries in the past. They give me muscle aches and joint pains. I can do that on my own if I want to! My sciatica went away once I stopped.

I had leg issues on everything, but Rosuvastatin. If you haven't had a FULL lipid panel done you may want to. It's the "fractional lipoprotein" levels that matter.....LDL size, LDL particle count, etc. That's the stuff that does the artery clogging. You can have a great cholesterol number, but the particle size and count could be off the charts. Just an FYI

Good morning gang!

79° bright and sunny outside currently looking for a high today of 83°. Later this afternoon thunderstorms roll in with the late afternoon and early evening.

Willie, Medford trains was the brainchild of the late Jim Coshun. All the kids were designed by Jim, but assembled and packaged by Carolina craftsman kits . if I remember correctly. All were Western Maryland Railway prototypes. One of his biggest kits was of the western Maryland railway station that stands today in Union Bridge, Maryland. It’s also the headquarters of the Western Maryland Railway historical Society, of which I am a member. I have that kit also, it rests on a basement shelf until I get the courage together to build it..

We have a 1:30 PM appointment at the pacemaker doctors office for a follow up, and on the way home we are going to stop at the optometrist so I can have them double check the prescription in my new trifocals. It seems to me that I can see distances just as well without my glasses as I can with and for someone who has always needed glasses to see distance I don’t think this is right.

Willie, after 4 years of plantar facetious and lower back pain, I quit the Pravastatin on April 30, after being on it for about 4 years. Hmmmmmm. My back and foot pain seem to be going away, not completely, but much better. My doc said statins causing my pain was a stretch. Thats my story and I'm stickin to it.

Since it is pouring rain and cant do anything outside I was looking over on trains.com. I see NS has unvieled the newest
heritage unit honoring the Delaware and Hudson Railway.

Looks very sharp!

We’ve had quite a bit of stormy weather around New England lately so my time has been spent mainly indoors on the layout which I’m not complaining about:)

In addition to learning about building techniques on the layout, I’ve been learning quite a bit about house repairs now that I’m a homeowner. I recently did my first plumbing project and even did a little chimney repair in between storms.

It’s actually been quite a bit of fun expanding my knowledge on new repair techniques.

On a different note, I’d thought I’d share another quick little OPs session I did on Rocky Valley. Check it out if you’re interested!

Good morning from Wisconsin again. I am on the front porch having returned from the airport where I made sure the brother got on his plane. I love him but he can be a bit much! The rain has started but it’s still light enough that I can still sit out here. I can hear the rumble of thunder in the distance.

Gardening. That is part of Terry’s genetic make up. Her grandmothers both had acre sized or bigger gardens. Her dad before he passed had 2 acres he worked everyday from March into snow season for 15-20 years. He had a 2 car wide but 3 car deep garage where the back 2/3’s was his grow house. He’d plant 100’ rows of tomatoes, zucchini and anything else in the ground. No raised beds for him. Between his bourbon, gardening and hanging in the garage after retirement was his heaven. All 3 brother in laws garden and had a patch where they grew weed amongst the FIL garden, he knew and tended it for them! Up north Terry’s garden kept expanding and at the end was enclosed with a 8’ high fence because deer would often jump the 6’.

Now Terry does lots of container gardening. 5 gallon containers that she weekly adds some organic fertilizer to. She also has 4 raised beds

about 36” high because her tomatoes would grow in hanging baskets but she had little success in containers. Zucchini, beans and larger variety of tomatoes in the raised beds She grows grape (for her) and cherry tomatoes (for me) in these upside down hanging grow bags. All her kale, spinach and various lettuces are also grown in them. She has many of the felt cloth ones but prefers the now harder to find plastic ones.

I am shocked (but should not be) at the current prices of these things but TROY they all should be ok in your back patio area

Were not getting anything severe up in the Northern part of the state, just a nice steady rain for about an hour now.

I see looking at the radar from Bloomington, Peoria area all the way down to Effingham are getting rocked by a line of
severe storms.

Yep, they formed just to the east of here. We escaped the first wave. Waiting on the second wave from the cold front heading this way.

The line is actually all the way down to the Cape.
