It rained last night as you already know. Sporadic little popups still in the forecast.
This afternoon I'm working on building the Cemetery Gatehouse from Cemetary Hill in Gettysburg. That was one of Gen Meade's HQs during the night of July1/2. More of a meeting place for his subordinates at his arrival. But it's an impressive structure compared to the Leister farmhouse on the back side of the ridge.
it's a bit smaller than the Semendary, but about as complicated. Lots of little parts. And breakable parts.... DOH!
Good morning, all! I believe summer has in fact arrived, as there is a triple digit day in the forecast. Yesterday saw some isolated flooding in Houston proper. Took the conductress to the doctor for her annual and we noted $2.49 for fuel in a number of places. Buc-ee's, Sam's and Costco $2.35.
Karl - a little prayer for good results.
Guy - not sure if you check in or not. Hope those fires aren't in your neighborhood.
From the archives, a couple of Bar Mills structures.
Tom: I assume that you are getting a sleeper? 35 hours is indeed a long trip. You should be able to detrain in a few spots for a few minutes that lets you walk on the actual ground without the bouncy part. That helps to break up the trip somewhat.
Everett to Spokane is 9 hours, and that gets boring although most is at night.
Years ago Mom decided to visit her sister in NJ - 3 days on NP's North Coast Limited from Spokane to Chicago. I was a 12yo and good with it having my face plastered to the front of the dome car ( now called sightseer lounges ) for the whole trip. Well, did sleep somewhat....
Thanks guys. What I have read is the roomette or a bed suite is a must for 1 reason. The coach seats bathroom after 12 hours is a disgusting mess and I cannot stand bad bathrooms.
MARLIN39 thanks David I almost sent you an email on this. Figured you’d have done it at least once
I think we can handle the time but we actually prefer driving over a plane or in this case a train. Not sure but even a roomette seemed reasonable for the $$$.
3 hours flying, 17 hours driving or 35 hours on a train.
Not sure. Now the brother is suggesting pick up the sister in LA. Over night in Seattle and sight see. Then drive up to Vancouver for a couple nights and then meet him in Maui.
Going back to our plan! Originally it was to fly into Seattle for a couple nights. 3 nights in Vancouver and head for home or overnight in LA to visit the sister! The train is a nice thought but maybe we save that for Chicago to Salt Lake City via the Rockie Mountains, or Denver to San Francisco. We shall see…
Surgery has been pushed back til Friday due to the Dr having to do an emergency surgery. I am relaxing in the Hilton hotel neatly the hospital waiting on a call.

Real sorry to hear that. This just adds to your stress. The good news is that you'll be happy with the results. My dad had a quad bypass back in 1993 and was home in 2 days feeling extremely energetic with the additional blood flow.
We drove on 1 in the 1970s, and it took all day to get from the LA area to Carmel. I know it hasn't gotten faster, because that's not why the road is there.
As long as they don't do to Karl what they did to me twice. Went through everything, supposed to go for surgery the following day. The phone rings, and the hospital tells me the insurance is demanding 20 grand up front before they'll approve the procedure.
Tom, is there any reason you couldn't break the trip in half, get off the train and spend the night somewhere, and take the next train the following day?
It's some kind of Shark Vacuum. Each room in the house is programed in to the app, which tells it where to go. I could just turn it on and it will go through the house randomly. And scare the dogs!
