I bought some light boards from Kato USA for my older Kato GP35 upgrade for DCC. Pretty straight forward swap out of the old light system. My last one - probably my oldest unit to get the upgrade done. Anyway, installed the board, added the digitrax decoder, programmed it and tested. I noticed the headlight led being a bit bright as compared to the rear. Since I programmed for mars, it wasn't at full power all the time. So, it didn't make it one lap before I noticed that the headlamp was no longer working. I thought I had hosed it up, so I checked everything to ensure I didn't short out the board. After wracking my brain, I created a return form for digitrax and put it in the mail.

I put the jumpers back onto the board for DC ops and put the loco away. A week goes by and I decide to run the loco. Well, the headlight wasn't working on DC! Removed the board and found that the front led was receiving full power from the rail. There's a 450 ohm resistor that should have been dropping the current and voltage, but it wasn't. I read a short across it. I removed the resistor and it tested fine. So I removed the bad led and started hunting for any path that may have been bridged during soldering. Broke out my bionic eye and found a possible location. Scraped away the solder and wala! Short removed. Put everything back and it now works as it should. Only problem is that I don't have an led of the same color.

I wrote to Kato and let them know. I hope they decide to send me a replacement as this was a factory fault.

digitrax is going to be mad...

I used to bake bread every week. It was a real pain during the freak out period as yeast became difficult (everybody doing the same). Did some searching and found a method for making Japanese style bread.

I even bought one of those square pans with a lid. It browns all sides at the same time. Gets stuck though, so had to resort to crisco...

Should start again...

edit: my recipe is older than this video, but the video shows the technique.

All that butter and brown sugar needs is cinnamon added.............mmmmmm.

I have to admit I have some banana flavored cream Twinkies and some chocolate cake Twinkies with chocolate cream filling. The banana cream filled Twinkies remind of a "Banana Flip" packaged pastry cake we had when I was a kid.

I’ve seen Bimbo trucks on the road and I’ve known where they’re from but I think it’s one of those names that’s better left in the home market and a more market friendly name used as appropriate in foreign markets.
If you check their website, it tells you how to pronounce it. But who's going to be checking their website when most Americans know what a Bimbo is?

Good morning all. A warm, sunny day.
Who knew when Bimbos and Twinkies are mentioned it is bread?

I shall be away for a few days. Travelling on the tracks of the former North British Railway. Staying at Corrour.

Peace and quiet apart from the trains passing. I shall be writing a story or two.

Well howdy there internet peeps and those who want a Bimbo sammich!

It's troy again...

The wife is 60! And I'm still in the land of the living. I must not have screwed up too badly yesterday. No rubbing it in. Willing accomplice for ice cream shenanigans.

Anyone else notice the weather guessers are exceptionally bad at guessing this summer? I've seen more one day corrections on rain vs no rain this spring & summer than I can remember.

in the hobby room, I decided I wanted to change how I'm basing the big boss characters in the dwarven army. They each get mixed into the front rank of a unit, so I want them to stand out more.

The one on the far right will be floating in a bed of lava. I need to paint the base with layers of orange and yellow and white to show the network of lava then over-paint with a black crackle paint. One game brand (Citadel) has the paint, but I'd like to find it outside of that company. I'm watching a vid on using crackle paste ... we'll see if that is a good replacement

For the past few years over here. Can't plan anything anymore. Have had to fry my steaks a couple of times. I use 3 sites, but sometimes the 1 stand out ends up being right.

Ooh, wait, I see a tank engine pulling some freight... ooohhh ahhhhh!!! :)

Morning all,

Miss the weekend and miss a bunch.

68° and light rain, going for a cooler high of 87°. Had a storm that was only rated severe for my town only AFTER it had already left yesterday evening. Dropped 1.3" of rain in about 45 minutes, then cleared for a couple of hours, then we had some general thundershowers overnight, dropping another inch in my gauge, for 2.3" in the past 12 hours. That makes 18" of rain in my gauge since Memorial day weekend.

Saw mom on Saturday since I won't have an opportunity until after labor day at the earliest. She's doing better since her hospital stay in April.

Gotta work Saturday for Server maintenance and due to the Friday Holiday, I have shortened work hours for the week. Always a plus.

Gotta love revisionist forecasting.

Well, it looks like my ISP has again moved my reported location, everything I was logged in to is demanding a new 2FA code because I'm in a new location. I did finally get a straight answer from the ISP, and they said they use dynamic IP addresses, so every 2-3 weeks, possibly more often, they change my reported location "to protect my privacy". They couldn't answer how me appearing to move all over the country is supposed to do this, since it looks more like it will then become expected behavior for me, and my accounts will think nothing of it if I suddenly ping from India or Nigeria.

I have seen their bread at the store I shop at, but didn't realize how huge they were and and how many brands they actually own.

I love the Entenmanns chocolate doughnuts. They are probably not very good for you, but a few boxes a year fall into my cart as I walk by that isle in the store.
