ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.
AT 52 I am slowly rediscovering some of my past hobbies which I regrettably had to let go over the past 10 years. Life throws you some curve balls and I had to sell nearly all of my MR collection.
Well I'm starting up again (albeit very slowly as funds allow).
My interest in US rail outline has always been 1990s BN 'cascade green' period and the transition to BNSF.
I do not have a layout yet. I am still relearning DCC and hoping to start a couple of Walthers structures in the coming months (if the eyes still work lol)
Thanks to you all for a great forum and I look forward to exchanging ideas.
Stephen - Welcome aboard. Looking forward to reading about your progress in returning. If you find the time, come over and check out the Coffee Shop for more modeling and some banter with some of the fellow forum members.

Thank you Willie, I'll have a look in the coming days.
I have placed an order for 2 BN Atlas GP40-2 locos. In the short term I will be more of a 'collector' than a modeller - that is until I have the room and the resources to start a layout.
In the past 15 years I partially completed a HO switching layout (4m in length) and a 6 x 4 N layout. Both now dismantled and parts gone to better homes.
Modelling a scene/layout form another country can be a challenge because you naturally have not been exposed to the local rail scene first hand, however you would be surprised how similar your local rail scene is in Australia.

There is a difference in collecting toward a future pike, vs collecting for the sake of collecting. For example I collect billboard reefer cars but they will be out of my era when I get to a layout. I collect GG1 locomotives but will never have an electrified division that I can run them on. etc. On the other hand I have been collecting equipment, track, structures for 50+ years that WILL be used on my future pike.
Hi Stephan, welcome. I also model the BN in the early 1990s, pre merger. I live in the Pacific Northwest so have tried to model equipment that appeared there. It was an interesting time due to all the unique-to-the-BN, lease and rebuilt locomotives running around. I posted a photo one time and one response was trying to guess what the locos were. It was a pair of GP39Es and a B30-7A. I also like coal trains and they were transitioning from steel cars and SD40-2 and C30-7s to aluminum cars and SD60s, SD60Ms and SD70MACs.
