RETIRED GUY PROJECTS

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

I have an electronics background, but a lot of it is just experimenting. I actually want the lights to be a bit dimmer, but making that happen on the other cars would be too much work. I bought the dimmest ones available from this one vendor, but they are still too bright for my liking.

Oh, and forgot to add that having these tools helps a lot. The breadboard allows for experimentation without installation. Just have to have a few sample LEDs, strips, resistors, etc.

I also have an electronics background.

The variable voltage dc power supply is one of the most used things on the bench.

I also have 'the background'. Although I would be ashamed to show you pix of my bench(s). Imagine Analog scope, 2 DSO, multiple DMM's with all the various proto-boards, L-boards, wires hanging ( both gators and clips ), Solder stations ( SMD and regular ) and all the little crap. Oh, variable power supplies get used for almost everything - how would we do anything? That is a Fluke 97? Can't quite see.

The Fluke is a 116. I have a Tektronix 2246A digital scope and other stuff. I don't have enough room on the bench for all the electronics stuff. The scope is stored under the layout because it takes up a lot of bench space. Don't use it that often but when I need it, I'm glad I never sold it. At one time, it got used a lot.

Please post photos of your bench(s). Always interested to see how others set up their benches and might get some ideas to incorporate on mine.

Dang! I thought that was a Simpson 260 there for a minute! I thought I would have to get on the ground and beg forgiveness! haha. I have a digital scope as well, but that's all packed up. I don't really have a station per se. I just break out what I need as my workbench is a mess.

Removed the traction tires on my new EF10. I hate those things! It is a real PITA to do, though.

I may not be able to pull as many cars as before, but I have a few boxcabs to assist if needed.

Replacement antenna for my ED16 came in. Yeah, they're tiny but what the hey.
