I've been working on a "quick" rolling stock project and I wanted to consult to forum. I have been trying to remove the paint from some older pieces of rolling stock so I can upgrade them a bit and I have been having some trouble doing so. I have been using white vinegar and a steel brush but it seems that the brass parts are resisting. As you can see from the picture I have been working hard to remove it. Anyway, anybody have any good tips for removing the paint? I don't really want to go out and buy something, I would prefer a DIY solution if one is available.

I did it with brake fluid, but either way it's a PITA. Also i use a tooth brush for more hard to reach areas (after soaking in the brake fluid), the steel brush might damage some detail on brass parts.

I just find oven cleaner simple. No tubs, baths or excessive liquid. I spray the item holding an inverted freezer bag. Spray outside and then close it up. First time is overnight. Next I wipe down with napkins and possibly repeat. A second time is ready in 2 to 4. I have had some really stubborn paint too. In the end I use a toothbrush and wash with water and liquid soap. After, the bag, and wipes are disposed of. I use latex gloves on wipe down too. I mostly do metal pieces.
