Product Review: BLI 4-8-4

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

saw one running last night on the club layout. SF #3751 sounded good and as always the BLI both pull great and look great. Over the past month I have seen more BLI show up on the layout than any other mfg. I have 1 Broadway heavy Mike and one blueline heavy mike both are great engines. my only advice is that the reccomended min of 18" radius on some of BLI larger locos is to tight, IMO a min of 22" should be considered

BLI makes three 4-8-4's, the J Class from the N&W, The S1b Niagara, and the AT&SF series mentioned above. As far as I know, all three are very good models. I have other BLI models and a PCM, and like them very much.

I feel the models generally could stand another 5-8 ounces of weight, which would be accomplished by making them metal diecast and adding other weights in hidden areas. Other than that, they run well, track well, and are reliable runners for me.

Thanks, for redirecting me to the reviews section ,had seen the heading for reviews but the columes on the right side being blank I assumed the section to be empty.
Maybe one of the mods can add a thead and view count so we can lets folks know there are in fact reviews to be read.

Found your review interesting,If the sound in this engine is as poor as you say a replacement with a heavy steam Tsunami sound decoder might be in order.
I have the Paragon series 2-10-2 and the sound while not absolutely perfect is very, very good will be happy to add my review of this engine to the reviews section when time permits.

I agree, I wish the pictures and review sections were more prominently displayed. It took me until I was here for a few months before I found them.

Don, nice shot and a great looking model. The Santa Fe had one on display at the San Bernardino station and that tender is almost as impressive as the engine. I don't know what the biggest tender was in regular service but that has to rank right up there with the biggest.

I agree but that wasnt the largest Northern they had eather. The 2900 was the largest Northern Type locomotive ever built, Also a Santa Fe locomotive.

Its sister is being restored to running condition in Santa Fe. They were talking about bringing 2912 back to operation as well but found that it was going to be far more problematic then they thought
