Hi,
I'm new to the hobby and have yet to even own a piece of track.
I'm planning on getting a DCC N scale train. However I don't have the space in my current room for a layout.
So mostlikely I want just a straight peace of track for displaying the train.

Is there a way I can get power to the track for the lights to work without a controller?

If you have a bed with space under it you got room. Lol

There are tons of Micro and mini layouts plans out there I'm planning a 24x48 oval with some switching operations. Never sell yourself short on space.
Check out Steve's Trains on YouTube he has built many mini layouts.
Or even look at T trak modules.

I just want the train to be stationary with lights on.
There is a tiny bit of space under my bed but I still have parents that do not approve me having it under my bed.😂😂
 
I don't think there is a way to just have the headlight on without a controller, you might be better off buying a cheap non-functional/dummy N scale locomotive and replacing the motor and other innards with a little battery-powered flashlight (or just an LED connected to batteries and a switch) if you just want it to sit there with the headlight on (you'd just have to replace the batteries frequently).
 
Ask mom and dad for help! :-) Maybe a shelf around the room with removable bridges to span doors and windows. If you have to take it down just a little bit of spack and paint to make the walls like new. Tell them you will be learning about electricity, electronics, building construction, and painting while having fun.
