I've ordered up some placard decals for my fleet of assorted brand tank cars. Most/all of the factory placard holders have faux frames with ridges, rather than being perfectly flat surfaces. Is it ok to apply these decals directly to these (with microset and microsol), or is it best to scrape these ridges off before decaling?

IMO, a frame with a placard but no ridge, would look a lot better than not having a placard at all.

Did you mean a placard with a ridge is better than having no placard at all?

Just did some tank cars. I used Walthers solvaset. Put it on the placard slid the decal on then a little on top. After a couple of minutes I take a Qtip and push down on it once and let dry. Also added the emergency number tag. I still have to finish weathering the cars, the blue ones only have the bottoms done.

Perfect. I have Microset and Microsol, and based on yours, it looks like the decals suck down snuggly over the placard ridges. What brand of placards did you use?

I believe they are from Circus City. I think at the time Smokebox was out of stock at the time.
