There is a pretty good HO scale model train club in Topeka. I would recommend joining a club, as there is a LOT of knowledge spread out amongst the members. Members are always willing to help out newcomers with their questions and/or problems.

Yes...I was fortunate enough to work for Ford Motor Company for most of my career and then for GE after Ford retirement. Retired for good in 2014. Ford moved me around a bit as part of career track.

Drove through the other day, moving step daughter to Atchison, but don't get that way too often. It is pretty far from "home" territory around Wichita & Hutchinson.

YES...I attended one of their exhibitions around Christmas with my grand daughter....got us interested.
I'm in Oz, so no help to you.
