I promised some photos from my present layout (such as it is).... only to find that posting them is ANOTHER "learning process". (... and I had it cold three versions of "windows" ago.)
They CAN'T leave well enough alone! (Heh heh!)
Anyone with a "quick and dirty" on how to get it done?
At the lower part of the "Post [Reply/New Thread]" there is a button for "Manage Attachments" (in the Advanced Reply, not the Quick Reply). Use this to upload photos...
Like he said....look below the reply text field.....click on manage attachments......browse through your photos......open one.......click upload.......wait till it loads.....you will see the photo name appear after it loads.....pick and upload another......then close the uploader......then submit reply.
you can go to Photobucket.com, open a free account and upload your photos there. Once the photo is uploaded, hover over it with the mouse it and a small drop down menu appears. Go down to IMG code and left click it. It will briefly say "copied." Come back here and paste the code into your post. The photo location will appear in the post, and when you submit the post the photo automatically shows up.
Attaching pics is a pain on every forum I've been on. Not only do they have to be small, they're more difficult to view. I just use Photobucket. Loads easier to use, easier to view, and you can use bigger pics. You may need to resize inside Photobucket, however.
If you're in the 'grid' view, click the image you want. Then mouse over it (don't click it or it takes you to a worthless editor for pre-teens who want to add sparkles). A bar appears at the top of the image. One of the boxes says 'resize.' Mouse over that, and the options pop out. I usually go 400x400 if it doesn't need to be big, or the next size up otherwise. Click the one you want, hit okay when it asks, then you're good to go.
And I hear you about Windows... I used to like Word... now I've got Word 2003 for Mac. Everything it used to do right, it doesn't anymore. First time I've managed to crash a word processor! But at least I'm not on Vista. I tried to fix my friend's Vista laptop recently... discovered that it was running full bore while it wasn't doing anything at all... just running the operating system (plus the three antivirus programs, and all the spyware that probably got past the three antivirus programs).

Not to turn into a Windows/Mac slash session on a railroad forum but I have Vista running on two of my systems, both of which I use for multimedia, web development, and systems-software programming. I never have any problems with it, even on my ancient compaq with a 1.8 ghz amd/512 mb ram. I run one antivirus program and have never had a virus except in the old days of windows 98. Of course, I have also spent many years (since I was ten) repairing computers of all kinds so I know my way around the operating system. Older versions of word I have crashed but the newer versions are very stable. Windows 7 is also a great system and is what I am using at this very moment (I have five computers in my house... but I'm a programmer/repairer/network associate student) and believe me I am not a mac-hater, Windows just works better for me. If you like it, more power to you but I think too many people give windows too much crap because as the dominant operating system in our world it is the target of many attacks. Lol done with my rant, no bad blood i promise!
Edit: Oh and I used to use OpenOffice.org but it takes up ALOT of system memory, even when it is running in the tray! On my older systems I noticed a bad performance lag on startup while openoffice was starting, most likely because it is written in Java which in it's older versions was notoriously slow. Overall a decent system but just too much of a performance hit for me, plus a close-to-but-not-exactly-like word interface that threw me off far too many times...
I do prefer the Windows file path setup over how Macs do it... I just find it easier to keep my Mac alive. Then again, my programming experience is limited to a small amount of Python, and ending random processes in Task Manager to see what would happen if.
I had been working on the image for a contest submission at my place of work, so it came up first in the upload navigation window, mostly just being lazy...but, thought it might give a chuckle or two
