Hi gang!

I reckon I'll be more of a lurker than a contributor in these forums. I'm not trying to be anti-social or anything, it's just I don't have a lot to contribute just yet. I mean, I can tell the difference between O, HO, & N guage track, but that's about the limit of my "expertise"!

I've loved watching model trains for decades, but never quite got around to actually building one. Recently however, I've decided to get started in the hobby. I just stopped smoking so will have about $300 a month budget for trains.

We've got a back room that has been used for storage for 20 years, that I'm going to convert to my train room. "Storage" is a term Mrs. C uses for items she doesn't know where else to put. It'll take me a month just to throw away all that junk. Which is fine, as I haven't even decided whether I want to model in HO or N scale yet, although I'm leaning towards HO. The room is 14 x 12 feet with a 10 foot ceiling. Windows on the W & S sides, door on the E, and a closet on the N. Dedicated 120V-20A circuit for the room (includes lights & outlets).

So there's a quick intro on myself. I hope to be seeing some of you in the forums, as I'll be reading through them to increase my knowledge so I can make informed decisions in my future plans!

Welcome to the forums, Bill, and a big congratulations on quitting smoking!!! I know that is one of the best choices that you will ever make. I quit a little over 20 years ago and it is one of the best things I ever did.

This is a great place to learn about model railroading and there are a lot of friendly, talented folks here who are very willing to help. Ask questions if there is something being discussed that you don't understand or want to know more about. No one will bite your head off or otherwise get upset. That is one of the ways we learn things...........you just may have a few more questions than others for awhile.:p You won't be alone. Don't be bashful and make yourself right at home.

Welcome aboard Bill.
Boy could you have a great layout in N-scale in that amount of room. No matter what scale you model the point is to have "FUN".:D
