New Layout for LASM

ModelRailroadForums.com is a free Model Railroad Discussion Forum and photo gallery. We cover all scales and sizes of model railroads. Online since 2002, it's one of the oldest and largest model railroad forums on the web. Whether you're a master model railroader or just getting started, you'll find something of interest here.

Here is a couple more shots, and a little more work I did over the weekend; I added some signs for the towns and locations:

There is a real town Pit, Minnesota, and it is on the railroad too. It was named that because there was (is) a gravel pit there. It is on the Canadian border near Baudette, MN.

Here is a better shot showing the inside of the mill. Someone was asking for what it looked like, I had to shine a flashlight in there to get stuff to show up on the camera; there is a carraige and outfeed belt, an operator, and a stacker. The boards have to be re loaded on the mill to be edged. I should have some slabs visible as well:

Here is a wider view:

And a new sign for the approach to Grovemont:

Thanks for looking!!!

Amazing work LASM!

I saw in the coffee shop that you have gotten a B&O boxcar and I was hoping to see a picture :)

I will keep checking back and as always thanks for sharing the hobby with us.

Thanks for looking, Louis; I haven't recieved the package yet, it is a pretty basic car but it goes well with my other stuff, here is a photo from the ebay listing:

I will have to change out the couplers and maybe the trucks as well, but that is part of the fun!

LASM great pictures! I really like the texture-atmosphere that these scenes have (plus the great craftsmanship!). Thank you for posting.

Great looking boxcar LASM, I can't wait to see it on your layout!

Thanks for the boxcar idea, Loius; I am putting different trucks and couplers on it and will get it up and running...Some other stuff I am working on is upgrading this hillside with some better looking cliffs and trying to get it to look like some of the scenery seen around my area:

Here is a shot of some of the local rocks that I would like to get closer to:

Local rocks.JPG

This is what the area looks like now, just some sheet rock mud and some paint, you have to be pretty far away for this to look good (?)

I am going to go over it with some more joint compound and try to press these in, the Woodland Scenics kits with Lightweight Hydrocal, I have another mold coming too and will try to blend them in with some grass and stuff:

Anyone try this?

If you mean mixing plaster castings with other scenery -- I like Sculptamold and Celluclay especially, but joint compound is fine -- I do a lot of it.

Chet, Steve, Thanks for watching my progress--Here are some pics of the rock wall that I am reworking, trying to make it look more authentic; like the Northern Minnesota rock outcroppings and faces,

Here is the before photo:

I added some molded Woodland Scenics rock walls made with their Lightweight Hydrocal, used regular joint compound to adhere them to the old surface:

Here is after I did some blending, I see there are a couple more cracks I may fill in:

When I tried getting by with the train, a couple rocks were sticking out too far.

I had to send the blasting crew out there to bore some holes in the rock and put some dynamite to work:

THANKS Johne, I know you are moving into a new space and I am looking forward to see what you are going to come up with as far as a layout goes!

Your welcome It will be awhile before I get to the new layout as I have a lot of changes to make in the new place. I am kicking around a few ideas on SCARM but nothing final.

Yes great work LASM
I haven't been around much lately, but I'm also working on my cliffs
I'll try and post later this week, in the mean time, keep posting those rocks
Thanks
