Hello everyone,
My name is Jim, I'm 76 YO and am just starting out on model RRing. I've built a 4' X 8' platform using 2 ea. 2" foam board glued together. I've purchased a Lionell train set. I have also purchased Peco flex track (Code 100). Also purchased L & R manual turnouts but I would prefer elect ones. What are my options? I haven't been able to find a Peco solution.

Initially, I'm planning on making a city train yard' Suggestions and comments are welcome.

Peco does make switch motors specifically for their turnouts, if you want to throw them electrically. I havent used these, but there are probably some YT videos on them. I finger flick all of my turnouts.

I'm vertically challenged and would have a hard time reaching across everything, especially after I put in buildings, etc.

I get that!

I designed mine ti have clear access from the isles, but I do have one buried behind the backdrop for future expansion if it ever comes to that. It will need some kind of switch machine.

There are a lot of options out there. Walthers, Cobalt, Tortoise, or a simple RC airplane servo can be used.

Are you planning to stay DC, or will you look at DCC down the line?

As you probably are aware, there are a lot of great options for this hobby. Some can seem overwhelming at times. Ask questions before you make the plunge on any big ticket items. Chances are the members here have seen and done it, so we can help guide you through some of the learning curve.
 
Welcome to the Forum Jim.

The Peco turnout motors that Mike (@migalyto) posted are very reliable, I've several and they will fit directly to the turnout, you simply need to dig a hole underneath, there are others such as Gaugemaster or Seep, also servo motors are another option.

Peco also have the PL11 surface motor.

I'm about $1K into lumber, 2" foam boards (2), train set etc. I have a few ideas in my head and making plans to go from 1 4' X 4' to 4 X 16. That'll be all of the room I have for this venture.
